A Month of Treats Vampire Week! My favorite Vampire books...

It's Vampire week for A Month of Treats!

Julie at My 5 Monkey's has part one of our interview with Drink, Slay, Love  author Sara Beth Durst today along with a vampire book themed giveaway, I'll have part two here tomorrow.

Today I'm talking about vampire books. Here are a few of my favorites. (in order of when I discovered them)

Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice: This is the book that started it all for me. I fell in love with vampires after reading Interview with a Vampire. They were evil, sexy, brooding and there was a whole society and history that I never even considered when thinking about vampires before.

The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R.Ward: In particular Z's story. I've read this one many, many, many times. The series has gotten a little too scattered and repetitive for me (and I'm not even going to get into my Qhuay frustration) but those first few books (and Rhev's) are still favorites of mine.
The Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost: Cat and Bones. Need I say more? Again, my book spines are cracked beyond repair from re-reading. The first three books are insanely addictive.
WVMP Vampire Radio Series by Jeri Smith-Ready: Just when I was starting to get bored with the genre and thinking there wasn't an original concept when it came to vampires, I discovered this UF series. The blend of vampires, music and con games is fresh, original and sexy fun.
The Vampire Empire Book One: The Greyfriar by Clay and Susan Griffith: Another fresh take on the genre. Steampunk, evil vampires, forbidden love and secret identities. This book was on my favorites list for 2010.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of great ones.....what am I missing? What are your favorites?

  1. Anne Rice captivated me as well!
    Here's another I think you'd love:

    Jeanne Kalogridis, author
Covenant With The Vampire (Diaries of the family Dracul series)
This series is rich, dark, brooding and sensual

  3. ha! I haven't read 4 out of 5 lol but The Night Huntress series it's just addictive and so freakin good!! I never thought I would enjoy an adult book.
Bones should be real: sexy and romantic when he wants to be *swoon*

  4. I haven't read the last two on your list, but HELLS YES to the first three.

It still sadness me that the BDB series seems to have lost it's way. I loved those first few books to pieces.

  5. WVMP is my newest craze. Totally agree with you there :)
The Garnet Lacey series & Vampire Princess series by Tate Hallaway are pretty good. Love Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires series. Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series & the Bloodlines spin off. House of Night series is good but lots of filler and has sort of drug on. All the books run together.

Love your picks! Thanks for adding to my TBR. Haha

  6. M.A.D. - Thanks! that series sounds interesting - it's hard to find something fresh in this genre these days.

@Anna - I haven't loved the most recent NH books but I could re-read the first few every day!

@Vonze - if you're looking for something a bit different with your vampires Vampire Empire is a good one.

@Missie - You would LOVE Wicked Game - the first in the WVMP series. Reeeead it!!! lol And yeah - I think I may have to give up on BDB. I end up really pissed after the books now....lol

@Marissa - I didn't love VA *ducks head* but I have Bloodlines and I'm going to give it a try. I've heard some scary stuff about House of Night so now I'm afraid to read it...lol
Haven't heard of the first two - must look up now.

  7. I discovered Anne Rice in college, then started writing fiction that sounded like her, only much much much less professional. It was so cheesy and corny, it was like a literary casserole. :-) Ah, memories...

  10. Ah, Interview with the Vampire is one of my favorites. I liked the Sookie Stackhouse series, though it has a potpourri of paranormal beings!

  11. Lara Adrian's Breed series is awesome, and although they're not the main characters, Faith Hunter's Jane Yellowrock books features a lot of vampires, good and bad.

  12. I also enjoy Adrian's Breed series. Or for a lighter vampire read Lynsay Sands Argeneau series.

  13. These days, vamps are a dime a dozen, but when I was a teenager, there was Anne Rice, and there was Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. Her Count of Saint Germaine books are just wonderful. She's still writing them - I think the 20th+ was just released this year.

  15. @Diana - I love the first four books of the Sookie series.

@Barbara @lexi - I read the Lara Adrian series too although I'm a few books behind right now.

@JenM - It's hard to find something original when it comes to vampires these days. Even my favorite series are getting a little stale. Thanks for the rec's
