*I saw this meme at Inked Books and thought it would be fun to do......delve into my world of reading habits & enjoy your weekend!

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack:
If I'm reading at night I either have a triple chocolate chunk cookie or Ghiradelli brownie from B&N - with a glass of milk for dunking.

What is your favourite drink while reading?
Milk if I have chocolate but otherwise water.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
Oh god! Never!! Since I've started blooging, I keep a notebook or paper & pen nearby for notes. (I have several scattered around the house now & this annoys my DH to no end!!)

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
Post it note - or a bookmark - or those subscription things that fall out of magazines. i used to dog ear..*gasp* but I am recovered from that.

Fiction, non-fiction, or both?
I lean heavily towards fiction but anything is ok. In fact I just downloaded several non-fiction books from Netgalley to force me out of my comfort zone.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of a chapter, or can you stop anywhere?
Mostly I read to the end of the chapter but if I'm struggling through a book I'll end at a scene that at least provides some closure while letting me still escape from my boredom! I usually read a book in one sitting though. Once I start I HAVE to know what happens!!

Are you the type of person to throw a book across the room or on the floor if the author irritates you?
Man have I felt like doing that a lot lately!!! but no I treat all books - even bad ones - with care. I just yell very bad things at the book in the hopes that it will somehow change the outcome!

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away?
I usually figure it out by the context - if I'm reading on my kindle I look it up since it has a dictionary. Some of these books need their own dictionary - like JR Ward's brotherhood series and Adrian Phoenix's Maker's Song series!

What are you currently reading?
Two books: Crazy for Love by Victoria Dahl & I've been reading Outlander by Diane Gabaldon - at 800 pgs it is taking me awhile to plow through so I read other books in between.

What is the last book you bought?
Faithful by Janet Fox, Wolves, Boys & Other Things that might Kill me by Kristen Chandler

Are you the type of person that reads one book at a time, or can you read more than one?
Usually I just read one book at a time but as I mentioned above ....Outlander is kind of kicking my butt so I read about 100 pgs then move on to another book and then go back to Outlander. I'm not sure if I'll ever finish that book at this pace!!

Do you have a favourite time/place to read?
I prefer to read at night after my husband leaves for work - I grab my snack and curl up on the couch with the cat and one of the dogs.

Do you prefer series books or stand alones?
I used to love series when I didn't read so much but I read @150 books last year and the series are starting to blur together and it's getting hard to keep track so I'm trying not to start too many new ones. I love reading a series all at once though! That's how I started the Sookie Stackhouse and JR Ward series. I think you have more fun reading that way - when you don't have to wait. When you have to wait a year in between books sometimes that leads to dissapointment when it doesn't live up to your expectations. It leaves too much time for my mind to wander and think of what should happen.

Is there a specific book or author you find yourself recommending over and over?
I LOVE Jeri Smith-Ready as almost everyone who follows me knows...slightly obsessed you might say but I love the variety fo her work. Complete emotional upheavel in the Aspect of Crow series to a completely original and fun vampire series and now YA with Shade and ghosts! Willow by Julia Hoban is a favorite of mine. For romance my favorites are Start Me Up by Victoria Dahl and Vision in White by Nora Roberts both are very smart and funny. Another favorite is the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins...brilliant writing! For a romance book that will just blow you away - Butterfly Tattoo by DeidraKnight.

How do you organize your books? (by genre, title, author's last name, etc.)
I just got bookshelves from Ikea a few months ago so I started organizing by genre - vampires/zombies/romance/YA etc and I have a TBR shelf and a giveaway shelf. I haven't gone alphabetical yet but give me time!

Well those are my reading habits.......what are yours? Hope I didn't bore you to death ...lol!

HAPPY READING!!
Karen

  6. I also use a post-it as a bookmark ... and make notes on it when I think of something I need to write in my review ... the problem is when I run out of space (I mean, they are small :o), then start writing teeny and on the edges and between lines (because i r lazy and don't want to fetch another) and can't understand a thing later!

I know what you mean about series ... I also seem to enjoy them more when I read them one after the other ... lots of people love some Sookie books and can't stand others, but to me they were all awesome because I read them in one week, and they all blurred together and just carried on with a great story that I was totally into at the time :) I seem to enjoy sequels far less when I read them months after the last book ... I think it's because the emotions you have for the characters and their story sort of fades, and so you look at the story far more critically, instead of as part of a whole.

That Outlander book sounds epic :o

Oh, did you enjoy the Adrian Phoenix books? The French got on my nerves :o I thought the whole story was ridiculous, lol.
