35435267Trust with a Chaser (Rainbow Cove #1) by Annabeth Albert

“One hot cop. One bar owner out for redemption. One smoking-hot summer fling destined to leave scorch marks…”

Goodreads

My thoughts: I LOVE Annabeth Albert and this his her new Rainbow Cove M/M series. Trust with a Chaser had everything I love about an Albert book – a little emotional baggage, well developed characters and small town life all wrapped up in a super romantic bow that feels like being cocooned up in a warm hug.

You know those authors whose books make you smile when your done? Yup, that’s an Annabeth Albert book for me and this one left me all happy, happy lol. (not a fan of this cover or title though – makes it like the love interest is a player or not trust worthy?? Or is it just me? It’s a really sweet romance though so don’t be fooled)

33396171All Systems Red (The Murderbot Diaries #1) by Martha Wells

“A murderous android discovers itself in All Systems Red, a tense science fiction adventure by Martha Wells that interrogates the roots of consciousness through Artificial Intelligence.”

Goodreads

My thoughts: I’m not a huge sci-fi fan but wanted to give the genre a try (this was rec's by Greg at Book Haven) and this novella is perfect at 160 pages.

Murderous robots with feelings and snarky dialogue, nefarious plots and betrayals? Yes, please! A bit of a slow start, but an entertaining start to a new series.

35235649Links by Lisa Becker

“Links, is a second chance romance that explores what happens when two high school classmates have a chance encounter after 15 years.”

Goodreads

My thoughts: DNF - I’m struggling with this one, so I’m setting it aside for now. I’ve always loved Becker’s writing and frank look at modern dating but I just can’t connect to these characters. Especially Charlotte. She was a former nerdy girl that used to tutor the HS hottie and playboy, Garrett. Despite him being a huge douche canoe, she crushed hard on him. Fast forward 15 years and she’s a successful novelist and runs into Garrett again and sparks fly.

This is billed as a second chance romance and….they never had a first romance? He never even noticed her and called her *glasses*. But I get it. When you’re a teen girl – the heart (or libido) wants what it wants. However Charlotte, a celebrated author, has NEVER gotten over Garrett. 15 years later and the memory of him is still apparently sabotaging all her relationships.

I just couldn't relate to Charlotte right now. I'm sure Garrett will be redeemed but I wasn't enjoying spending time with these two. I might come back to it when I'm feeling more patient with them.

This has mostly 4 and 5 star reviews on Goodreads so read a few other reviews before deciding if this one is for you or not.

Lights, Cowboy, Action by Cindi Madsen

"Kaia Bardot is determined to move out from under her famous father’s shadow and prove she deserves her own director title. But when her lead actor needs cowboy lessons, she needs someone to get him up to speed, and fast. Who better than the real live cowboy who owns the ranch? If only he weren’t so infuriatingly stubborn."

Goodreads

My thoughts: Kaia and Grady were complete opposites in every way - she's a movie director from LA, comes from money and he's a ranch owning cowboy, struggling to make end meet - but they are perfection together.

Despite being only 74 pages long, you believe in their connection, thanks to the addition of an epilogue with a solid HEA.

If you're looking for a quick, romantic read this one is for you. It was a freebie at the time I downloaded it.

    1. I'm sure it happens but at that point it's difficult to read about a grown, successful woman sabotaging herself for over a decade because of a douche bag she crushed on at 15. They didn't even date or have more than an antagonistic tutoring relationship.

  9. Yay I'm glad you liked Trust With a Chaser so much - you're not wrong, the cover does make it seem like one of the characters is a bit of a player. LOL I love Annabeth's books too though!

    1. Between the title and cover I expected trust issues with a player but it wasn't like that at all and very good.

  13. Oooh, All Systems Red looks so promising! Honestly, I'm not a big sci-fi reader either, but who can say no to a novella about murderous robots? Not I!

  14. Ooo Trust with a Chaser sounds really good! I love a book with emotional baggage and a small town setting! I've been curious about Links so I'm sad to hear it was a DNF for you, but from your description, I'm not sure I'd like the characters all that much either. Great reviews! :)
