friday fast 5!

1.

In feudal Japan, a one-eyed boy with musical magic powers searches for his father’s enchanted armor, pursued by his evil grandfather, the Moon King.

I’ve heard that this movie is AMAZING! and it’s just been added to Netflix – so I’m hoping to watch it this weekend.

The babies have left the nest! If you've been following along - these are the baby birds from a nest built in the wreath on my front door about 3 weeks ago. All four made it, which is really unusual. That poor momma bird. They got pretty hungry and vocal at the end there and I’m not sure my front door will ever recover from the amount of poop covering it right now. lol But it was fun to watch the whole process from egg to fledglings.

If you’re looking for an easy vegetarian dish give this Vegetarian Rice & Bean Casserole from
Make Healthy Easy a try. I added some sauteed sweet potato and spinach to add more veggies and topped with avocado/sour cream.

Are there any better friends than bookish friends? I think not! Here are just a couple of things I got in the mail this week from my blogger pals. A dog themed (she knows me well) inspired book sleeve from Brooke & The Sun is Also a Star from Lena

I’m not accepting many book review request these days but this one from Macmillan (Henry Holt and Company) really caught my attention so I said yes.

My Mother’s Kitchen: Food, Family, and the Meaning of Life by Peter Gathers ~Goodreads

20170413_161725A funny, moving memoir about a son's discovery that his mother has a genius for understanding the intimate connections between cooking, people and love
Peter Gethers wants to give his aging mother a very personal and perhaps final gift: a spectacular feast featuring all her favorite dishes. The problem is, although he was raised to love food and wine he doesn't really know how to cook. So he embarks upon an often hilarious and always touching culinary journey that will ultimately allow him to bring his mother's friends and loved ones to the table one last time.

This book sounds so poignant and lovely that I couldn’t resist. This copy was also signed so that was nice as well.

  7. Oh yay...all the baby birds survived. And I don't accept too many author requests anymore, unless its one I know or a book I could really see myself buying on my own.

  8. Matt watched half of Kubo without me before realizing the error of his ways. He is now waiting for me. Haha.

Also, those baby birds have gone through an AMAZING transformation. I'm sure you're happy to wash down everything. :)

I noticed that Kubo is at Netflix. I'm waiting to watch with my mom who will LOVE it (I have a feeling since I haven't seen it yet but followed many of the animators when they were making it).

Hm... I think I need more friends like yours! LOL :D Very cool haul!
