Hippity Hopping........

Let's all go AWWWWWW.....

The Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Jen at Crazy for Books. I was away most of last week so I didn't get a chance to really do the blog hop challenge. I hopped a little but couldn't comment and keep track all week, so I'll try to do it this week and write about my results for next weeks hop.

This weeks Questions is: If you find a book that looks interesting but is part of a series, do you always start with the first title? Unless a friend tells me it's ok to skip then I start from the first book. I'm afraid I'll be lost and not be able to give the book a fair shot.

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee. Her question is: What is your usual monthly book budget? I don't have one. I guess it would be around $50. I'm really bad when it comes to e-books because they feel "free" when I download them....lol. Then I get the bill! Yikes. Ever since going to BEA I got so many books that I haven't had to buy many and I've been doing a lot of swapping with other bloggers so I've been able to keep the book budget low.

  1. I wish I were more dedicated to a series and
it is very hard to set a book budget when I can order books anytime from Amazon

  2. oh I know how you feel with books--sh I spend more money on books then I should at times.

I can read a series in the middle but then I'm not as attached to the characters as much if I started at the beginning ie Terrible. Read Barrons out of order but its BARRONS, and made sense to me.

    Have a Great weekend

  3. Hi, Karen! Old follower here and dropping by from the hop. :) I always start w/ the first book too unless I know it's ok not to. And I usually have the same budget for books but it changes. :)

    Have a nice weekend!

  4. Good Morning Karen!

    Happy Friday.

Old follower here. I’m doing all three of the Friday blog runs. I don’t limit myself to budget with books. I just love to read and write so that line is always doable for me. And Yes, I love start a series at the 1st book.

  6. *nods* If it's a worldbuilding-heavy series, or there's a lot of complicated relationships, it can just get impossible to keep everything straight if you haven't read book 1.

  8. Hopping over lol I try to start with the first book in a series, but my book budget is so tiny, sometimes I just have to start where I can :/

  9. I can dive right into the middle of a book series if the series' story
    doesn't run chronologically.

That is to say, if each novel in a series is a stand-alone story (like Lee
Child's Reacher novels) then I don't feel the need to start with book one.

On the other hand, a series of books (like Richard Hatch's Battlestar
Galactica novels) can't be read out of sequence since each new book builds
upon the story of the previous entry in the series.

    Happy Book Blogger Hop Friday!

  10. Hi Karen! I'm an old follower...wish I didn't have a book budget. I tend to borrow lots from the library though. Works out well because I work there. :D

  14. Hello! Hopping on by (and that pic did make me say awwwww...)
I always have to read a series in order. Just wondering, how many books you would get for $50? In Australia, new release paperbacks range from $21 (discount department stores) to $35+ (bookstores), so my budget is a bit higher...probably closer to $75.

  15. I've been by before, but now I'm an official follower. Yay!

I can't start a series anywhere but at the beginning. Also, I don't pay a lot of attention to how much I spend on books since most of what I read comes either from publishers or from the library. I do try to use coupons when I go to the bookstore, because my self-control goes right out the door the moment I enter :)

  17. @samstillreading - I think most of the books are @$16.99 and up for HC, cheaper for PB but I get a lot on kindle so that keeps at $9.99 or less, sometimes free.
