Currently: March

Currently is a monthly feature hosted by In Residence

For obvious reasons, I didn’t feel like doing this month’s Currently. Then I took another look at the prompts and figured they actually resonate with what’s going on right now and decided to take it on as a challenge to find the good in all of this.

Fixing: My broken heart. Losing Fonzi while stuck at home is hard. I’m just going to move right on from this one…

Hearing: Silence. I live in a small town (pop. 3000) and only have a few places to shop or go. It was a tough adjustment at first but I’m appreciating it now with all this going on!

Nothing is ever crowded or out of stock (except that blasted TP lol) and our waterfront park is empty and peaceful so we were taking time to walk there every morning. I’m not sure if we can still go with our new Shut Down Order.

It seems like nature is quite happy with the human social isolation program. The stillness with only the sound of waves lapping, birds tweeting and seals honking is one of the most calming things. I'm noticing more things and enjoying the silence.

It helps me put things in perspective and regroup mentally.

Borrowing: Hmmmm – it’s hard to borrow anything right now. GERMS! VIRUS! DO NOT TOUCH! lol So a twist on that might be borrowing everyone’s good vibes and energy that you are all putting out there.

Feeling: Oh lordy. I’m feeling ALL the things. Grief, anger, peace, optimism, despair. I’m sure it’s a roller coaster of emotions for all of us right now. But today is better than it was yesterday so – calm for today.

Recommending: I have actually been a giant slug for the past week other than walking and playing games on Kevin’s Oculus so why don’t YOU recommend something to me! What should I binge (I have Netflix and Prime), read, watch, listen to….etc.

*Also – I’m hosting a giveaway to help support small businesses during this difficult time. I’ll be giving away a $25 Gift Card to any small business or charity of your choice. US only. It’s a win win for everyone so please enter here!

  1. This is a tough time to be dealing with any additional losses, never mind profound losses like your Fonzie. I hope you can find some pockets of hope to keep you going during these trying times.

    1. I am! Or at least moments of peace. It's harder when you can't go out for distractions. Like, I would have went to the movies and stuff like that to break up the hours.

Kevin has a the oculus quest virtual reality game and that helps A LOT. It's completely immersive and I laugh so hard watching Kevin when he plays.

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about sweet Fonzi. Losing a furry family member is so hard, and even more so during this time. Thinking of you and sending love. Hang in there, friend!

    1. Oh yikes! I had been buying some with each trip over the past few weeks. We run low or out at some places but it gets restocked fairly quickly.

  4. We have TP (and meat), but there are looong queues outside the supermarkets...like...since I was on vacation, I went there at a quarter past thirteen today - thinking "oh, it must be a dead hour" - and spent almost 30 minutes in wait before I could enter...

Yeah, you didn't need the additional stress and confinement right after losing Fonzi (I still can't picture him gone), but now it would be a good period to make a dent in the TBR pile...๐Ÿ˜‰...you REBEL! ๐Ÿ˜‚

    1. So far, we don't have any lines but our state is initiating shutdown today so I'm not sure if that would incite more panic. I haven't gone anywhere since I've been slowly stocking up since this started.

  5. oh no.....I am so sorry to hear that you have such a loss. Will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

This is such a struggle right now, but appreciating the "stillness" in life is so precious.

    1. Thank you. We just have to try to find some silver lining to things.

  6. A roller coaster of emotions for sure. A quiet small town sounds nice though- I love the thought of a quiet waterfront! Waves lapping, and seals sound wonderful!

So... recommendations. I don't remember if you're a 100 fan? I always recommend that show, even though the first couple seasons have a bit of, shall we say, CW drama lol? And did you ever watch The Returned (French version on Netflix- the American remake was bad, I heard). That show was a trip!

    1. I LOVED The Returned! And agree about the American version. I have not watched The 100 but have meant to.

I saw that CBS All Access is showing Picard for free and I'm obsessed with him so I think that's what I'm going to watch first.

  7. We're all suffering with uncontrolled emotions. Sorry to hear about your experience. Nature and silence are excellent antidotes. Best luck to you.

    1. Thank you. You would think even more quiet wouldn't help but it sort of feels like nature taking things back and enjoying life without us. It's oddly soothing.

  8. I am not too excited to do my March wrap up either but as my wrap ups are part of my online diary I feel a duty to do so. I am glad you live in a small place so you have no problem buying whatever you need and a lot of nature to explore when you want to go out without having to be in contact with people. I wish I had a hiking trail or something nearby too. I am so sorry for your grief but the best thing to do is not to shy away from those emotions... Sending love <3

    1. The downside is there aren't a lot of stores if you need things but the upside is no one is losing their shit & we have the basics lol

      XOXO

  9. My heart breaks for you and Kevin, it really does. If life was continuing as normal it would have at least been a distraction for you but with all this virus thing going on, there is too much time to think. Frustration and despair are going to be in the air for everyone as we watch death tolls rising and get mad at those flouting the safety rules. A terraced house with a storm damaged back garden we can't go into isn't much fun for isolating but we'll make the best of it!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah - that's it exactly. it would be tough no matter what but having to stay in the house makes you notice the silence so much more. But we're getting through it one day at a time and trying to upset our routine so it's not as bad.

I wish you & your dad all the best through this...

  10. Yes, all the feelings right now - love this idea of borrowing others' optimism, and of doing a small business gift card giveaway! So sorry about your loss, and glad to hear these prompts resonated with you at this time - it is nice to have blogging as an outlet for processing things and finding community, isn't it?

    1. It really is. Blogging and the community have gotten me through so many life changes.

Thank you for hosting and continuing with the feature through these times!

  11. I have no words... Except, I'll miss your Fonzi pictures and updates (he was an awesome dog and a beautiful boy) so I can only imagine how much you're missing him right now. *socially acceptable distance hugs*

    1. *elbow bump* back lol

We're getting there. It's slow going not being able to get away from the routines or silence but we're trying to make new ones and each day has been a little better.

    1. I'm SOOOOOO glad we are in this house. My rental before here was a tiny, dark townhome with nowhere to get outside without tumbling onto each other.

It is totally stunning right from my living room and I'm so thankful for it.

  13. I'm glad you are in a place where you can appreciate the natural world. So beneficial when everything else at the moment is all kinds of crazy.
    Stay safe :-)

  15. ((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))) ๐Ÿ’Ÿ๐Ÿ’Ÿ๐Ÿ’Ÿ

We have a college bar at the end of our street, and I never realized how much of the noisy night time traffic came from them until now. Their parking lot outlet is on another street, so I assumed that's where all the traffic went. The night time quiet has been nice. ๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿš—

    Hang in there. ๐Ÿ’•

    1. That's kind of an unintended benefit lol

We're a little noisier than usual because the kids are home and playing outside.

  16. You are lucky to have options! I get to go to Central Park twice a day to walk the dog but it's still sort of sad feeling like that's my only outing. The park is nice and I'm lucky that I can walk there and my apartment is sunny and a pleasant place to be so trying to feel gratitude and acceptance.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I'm not sure if I still have options after the stay at home order. The recommendations are confusing. Only essential personal - don't leave home but drive-thrus and parks are open if you need fresh air. ?? I've only stayed in my neighborhood since it became official.

It's great to be able to walk to Central Park but it has and energy when all the people are there so it' must also be sad now too.

But yeah - we have to be grateful for the small things.

  17. I can't imagine losing a pet when everything else in the world is crazy, but I'm glad you have Kevin and Figment! It sounds like where you live is kind of peaceful and calming - which is important these days. I'm here if you wanna chat or buddy read or whatever. :) I'm pretty Amazon still has the show Psych, which I LOVE if you've never watched it. I'm also watching iZombie on Netflix which is great - a mystery in each episode and it's really funny too!

      Thanks for everything Lauren.

  18. Once again, sending my love and energy to you during this exceptionally difficult time. Recommendations: If you haven't watched PSYCH (steaming on Amazon Prime), I highly recommend. It's our favorite. That lead us to CHUCK (Prime), which we just started and are loving. Another fun comedy is Brooklyn 99.

  20. I think it is a rollercoaster of emotions for everyone right now, but I'm so sorry about Fonzi <3 That's amazing though that things aren't crowded or out of stock there! It's kind of constant chaos here (or so I'm told, I personally have not left the house for a couple weeks). I can't remember if you've watched Lucifer on Netflix? I love it!

    1. TBH - I'm glad I don't live in FL right now. I lived in Ocala and when I chat to my (older) friends they aren't worried and think it's just those evil NY'ers sneaking in and hurting them. *face palm*

I have good days and bad ones - as to be expected especially as this keeps going over several months. We like our quick solutions here and it's not going to happen.
