Feeling nostalgic... treetastrophy, scary Santa & cheestastic 60's Christmas trees

I was looking for wrapping paper the other day and stumbled upon my old photo albums from when I was a wee bit of a thing. They’re really old (from the 60’s) & fragile so I tried not to mess with them too much and just took pictures of them with my cell phone.

Even though the quality isn’t that great, I thought it would be fun to share a few of them with because they kind of made me laugh. It was like traveling back in a time machine. SO. MUCH. TINSEL. lol & rabbit ears ftw.

My parents are no longer here, so it also brought up a lot of nostalgia and fond memories for me as well.

I was 1 year old (1966) in this pic & I actually remember trying to tug on the tree – I mean…look how shiny it is! - and knocking it over. Those were glass ornaments so my mother ran around picking them all up before letting me play with the downed tree lol

That giant pink, furry thing was a cat (I think) and my absolute favorite toy! I carried it around for years.

I was 2 this Christmas and apparently this was the year of the creepy doll. There were like...3-4 creepy dolls. There’s also a stuffed dog in front of my dad that looks suspiciously like a sheltie. Foreshadowing...

But seriously! What the heck is going on with that tree??? It looks like it’s covered in cob webs! lol  And I love the OLD tv, the vinyl covered chairs…ah the 60’s.

I have several years worth of pictures of me staring at Santa as if he’s about to murder me. lol

I have no idea how old I am here but I like the picture :-) and we seem to have finally toned down with the tinsel and whatever that other stuff was! A nice normal tree!

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and a safe, Happy New Year!

I'm off to write a few reviews and read right after I post this so I'll be back in January with plenty of posts & a giveaway!

  1. I think your parents covered the tree with plastic in order to prevent you to get too close and knock it down again! LOL. And the Santa pic is priceless πŸ˜‚.

Thank you for letting us see those slices of baby Karen! Yay for plenty of posts and giveaways! And MERRY CHRISTMAS πŸŽ… (though we'll meet again on Twitter before the 25th for sure).

    P.S....don't murder that squirrel LOL.

    1. You might be right! They have the base surrounded so I can't get in there lol

I'm not TRYING to murder the squirrel. He wants to be hit! he literally saw me coming, went behind a tree and waited to throw himself in front of me. I watched him do this! lol

    1. I'm going to have to google that stuff. It was super silky but I have no clue what it was.

If I knocked that 2nd one over I might have gotten tangled up in it and never made it out :-)))

  7. These are absolutely precious Karen and such wonderful moments to remember your parents as well. Have you thought about having them professionally copied? We had old photos from the ship during the fifties when my mum migrated and had them copied and they look wonderful. Was able to frame them and ensure they're around for generations to come. Thank you for sharing your precious moments <3

  9. Oh, my goodness... I love looking through old family pictures and so glad you were able to rifle through and find these gems <3 they are so precious! You totally are looking at Santa like he's about to murder you, but then again, he is kind of terrifying, LOL. I'm also not sure what's going on with the cobweb tree but I blame the decade, there were some questionable choices in just about every category back then. My parents STILL have wood paneling in their family room and I'm always giving my dad the business. "1984 called and they want their room back." He's not a fan of that joke :)

XOXO and hope you have a very merry Christmas, my sweet!

  11. Ah Karen, these are lovely! I'd love to find things like this but most of my childhood photos were scattered to the wind when my mum downsized from the family home to a small apartment a few years ago. :(

    1. I don't have much left either. My mom passed away when I was young then when my dad moved when he was older he either threw out or gave away most of it. I've only managed to recover a few things.

  12. I love looking at old photos and Christmas seems to be the time of year that photos are taken so you can see children laughing/crying/staring at Santa like he wants to kill you. I have no clue what is happening with the tree one year, it's almost like it has a bag over it to protect it, it's crazy. I hope you have a good Christmas.

  18. Old photos are the best! Look at the rabbit ears on that TV! Yes, it does look like cobwebs on the tree. Were your parents perhaps trying to combine Halloween with Christmas? Lol! :)
