Speaking of Love Blog Tour Guest Post & Giveaway!

speakingofloveblogtour

I’m happy to be part of the Speaking of Love blog tour today!

Speaking of Love is book #2 from Ophelia London’s Perfect kisses series published by Entangled Bliss. You can check out my review here. You really can’t go wrong with any book from the Bliss line IMO. Always romantic, always fun and Speaking of Love is no exception.

Ophelia is on the blog to talk about the playlist for Speaking of Love. If you follow my blog regularly you know this topic makes me very happy!

The musical side of SPEAKING OF LOVE

This is not a secret: I love making playlists for my books. Music always plays a prominent role in my stories, either literally (like in ABBY ROAD, which is about a rock star with a mild Beatles obsession) or more off-the-page. In SPEAKING OF LOVE, Mackenzie and Rick are a high school speech teacher and a newspaperman, respectively. Not very musical, I know! But in my head, their story is laced with song. With themes likes communication, matchmaking-gone-very-wrong, and of course, romance, my playlist is so completely delicious.

It starts off, as my story does, with sexy bantering: “Big Mouth Woman/Long-legged Guitar Playing Man” by June and Johnny Cash. I can’t help smiling when I listen to this song. Yeah, these people are bickering, but it’s also easy to see through that and straight into their connected hearts.

With the theme of matchmaking—and knowing that my book would be released right around Valentine’s Day—there are also a few “Cupid-y” songs in there. One I discovered only recently. I’ve come to love it so much and can’t help tearing up a bit whenever I hear it…thinking about Mac. It’s by Aubrie Bouskill and called “Stupid Cupid,” but not the one we all know from the 50’s. It’s tragic and melodic and wonderful, and it fits Mackenzie’s broken heart to a tee. Go to iTunes now. Find it!

There’s also quite a bit of making out in my story, so I have to have some good kissing tunes, right? “Love Sex Magic” by Ciara and Justin Timberlake help those scenes along quite nicely, as does Bryan Adams’ “Have You Really Ever Loved a Woman.” (Cheesy, I know, but just ask Rick’s brother about this song!)

My SPEAKING OF LOVE playlist concludes by circling back to the theme of communication: “A Little Less Conversation” by Elvis. By the end of the story, Mac and Rick have finally done enough talking, thanks you, and they are ready for their happily ever after!

What is your favorite “talking” song? Or do you have a song you like to “not talk” to?

  1. First "talking" (communication?) song to come to mind is "I Call Your Name" by Lennon/McCartney but performed by The Mamas & The Papas. Mama Cass slays that song! :)

  2. I can't think of any conversation songs. My dad always laughs at me b/c I say that's why I dislike country music so much. lol I've been meaning to read Playing at Love, and now this one too. I completely agree w/you about the Bliss line, Karen. You can't go wrong.

    1. The Bliss line is guaranteed to make you smile.

I need to go back and read Playing at Love. Speaking of Love works as a stand alone but I would like to have an official introduction to everyone. :-)

  8. Talking music... not so much. However, I do have songs I like to listen to/sing badly to depending on my mood. Sometimes it is what you need to get yourself in a new attitude. :) That might help with conversation. :D
