Review: Speaking of Love by Ophelia London
Speech teacher and successful matchmaker Mackenzie Simms decides to find a woman for her friend, handsome newspaper tycoon Rick Duffy. Though they’ve been each other’s go-to dates for the past month, Mac and Rick couldn't be more different: she is outspoken, sarcastic, and completely loathes his privileged lifestyle. He's laid-back, unassuming, and seems comfortable at an upper-class charity function. So why can't she stop thinking about him?
Rick knows he and the opinionated-though-adorable Mackenzie are better off as friends, so he agrees to the double-date getaway Mac plans at his family cabin. But seeing Mac cuddle up with her “friendly” date rankles Rick beyond reason, and Mac regrets her matchmaking scheme the minute she sees the way her beauty-queen cousin looks at Rick. Can Mac 'fess up to what's really in her heart, when speaking her mind puts everything at risk? ~ Goodreads
This is a really cute opposites attract story. Mac (short for Mackenzie) is attracted to Rick but is sure her blue color/activist lifestyle won't mesh with his high society/business one. She tends to get herself and Rick into trouble every time she goes with him to a public function. Not to mention she has a serious grudge against Rick's dad, a ruthless buisnessman.
Mac decides that while Rick's a good catch, he's just not right for her and it's better if they stay good friends so she fixes him up with her gorgeous cousin, Brooke. You guessed it - as soon as she does that she realizes she made a big mistake and wonders if it's too late to fix things.
Mac & Rick have a lot of almost moments only to be foiled by misunderstandings, fears and one sexy cousin with eyes only for Rick.
I do wish that the "other woman" wasn't Mac's cousin. That felt a little too close for me. I would have rather it been an acquaintance. Mac did set them up herself and it was handled quite tastefully so it definitely wasn't a deal breaker or anything, just kind of awkward. It also took a little while for me to warm up to Mac. She has good reason to be guarded but she was almost too defensive at first or maybe I was just so pro Rick right away (he's awesome!) I was in a rush for her to see the great guy right in front of her.
Speaking of Love is another title from Entangled Publishing's Bliss line. My blogger pal Andrea (The Bookish Babe) described this line perfectly in her recent review of another Bliss title; "more sweet than steam. I must say, once again, that Entangled Bliss books would make the most adorable Lifetime or Hallmark movies. There's an inherent charm in all of the books…" Yup – I second that.
Final Thoughts: Another cute, light romance from the Bliss line and a fun book to curl up with on Valentine's Day.
