Review:

I don't think I've ever read a book that combines historical romance with the paranormal before. I found The Wolf Who Loved Me to be very entertaining but not without a few flaws.

Lady Madeline is being pushed by her father into marriage. All her prospects are dreadfully dull and she secretly hopes for a marriage with passion.

Weston Hadley has always loved Maddie from afar and can definitely give her passion but is well below her social standing and doesn't have a chance with her. Or does he?

When Maddie follows Wes out in to the dark one night she sees him transform into a wolf. In Wes’s quest to stop her from telling anyone about what she saw, they are found in a compromising position and Wes sees this as an opportunity to finally get his girl.

This is where the story got shaky for me. Wes and Maddie are great together. When they are sharing their feelings or steaming up the pages I loved the story but when things veered to frequent misunderstandings and Maddie's snobbery I found it hard to enjoy.

Maddie was raised to be proper and genteel. Now she's kidnapped and literally dragged through the mud by a werewolf of all things. I get how that's a HUGE adjustment for her so I did cut her some slack there. But what I didn't understand was why Wes was in love with her. He didn't even seem to understand what her personality was before this moment. He waffled between hinting that she was spoiled and too proper to thinking he had to be a better man to keep her up on that pedestal he put her on. He mentioned a few times that he hoped she would be a feisty woman but if not then he could live with it. What? That's just weird. It just seemed like he saw her and liked her based on looks alone, without really knowing her. He would figure out her personality and hoped it fit with his later.

Despite this I like how their relationship developed. I especially like that Wes was a bit of a brooding bad boy but not your typical rake. He did push Maddie into a corner with marriage but he also gave her a way out if she wanted to take it. He’s a stand up guy trying to do the right thing for everyone. Maddie evolved from a sheltered daughter although I wish we got to see more of it.

There was a big misunderstanding that caused a lot of grief for several people that never seemed to be addressed. Everyone hinted around it but the true facts never really came out.  Not a huge deal because overall I was still happy with how everything turned out but it left me wishing that Maddie knew the truth. (I know that’s a little vague but I don’t want to spoil anything)

Rating 3 out of 4: All in all this was a fun read and I will definitely be reading more books from the Westfield Wolves series. I felt like a few things weren't explained enough and there was very little of the paranormal element which was disappointing but I still enjoyed Maddie and Wes.

  3. Sounds fun despite the flaws. Sometimes I think an author wants certain scenes to occur, but don't always have a solid plan for the rest of the story.
