Question: Do you review every book you read?
Answer: Yes, sort of? Back when I took on a lot of arc's, yes, I reviewed every one of them that I read. I felt like I should because that is an arc's purpose. I felt like I wasn't keeping up my end of the bargain if I didn't.
Now that I rarely take on review books, I'll still say yes but it depends on your definition of review lol I try to at least say a few sentences/words if only to remind myself why I did or didn't like it for the next time I pick up something by the author.
However, I don't feel the need to write full length reviews anymore. I definitely don't bother posting them all on here. Most are either lumped in a collection of mini reviews (here) or a few sentences on Goodreads.
There are even a few reads that I even forget to mark as read on Goodreads now. *GASP* Those are usually my KU (Kindle Unlimited) comfort reads. Most are free for a reason lol but are good for a quick, before going to bed, read but nothing of note.
Do you review every book you read?
I love your little bark back in comments image. It's so cute.
ReplyDeleteI understand what you mean. I go back and forth between writing full length reviews and something on Goodreads to help me remember what I thought when I read it. Since I started blogging again, I'm writing full length reviews and I've reviewed everything I've read, except rereads. I don't stress over the reviews, though, because I don't get ARCs or books for review so everything is on my terms and timeline.
Right now I'm barely reading so it's kind of not an issue lol
DeleteI don't, not anymore. I used to, and I still mostly do, but there are occasionally books that I just don't feel the need to review. It's pretty subjective though lol, there's not always a good reason! Some I just want to read on lark or I'm mildly curious but don't want to invest a lot of time thinking about or reviewing. I'd say I still mostly review what I read for the most part though...
ReplyDeleteIt's freaky just an emotional thing at this point. If I feel something than I do, if I don't then I don't worry about it.
DeleteYep I review every book I read and I do try to review every book I read even if its just a paragraph. I started reviewing like this before ARC's, so they aren't my primary reason especially as I don't read many ARC's anymore. I just like being involved and sharing my thoughts on the books I read.
ReplyDeleteI might come around again. I go through phases lol
DeleteMy brain is always reading as of I'm reviewing though. Cataloging details and thoughts.
I just keep my thoughts in my own book journal folder on my computer for books I don't feel like reviewing. That way I still have them if I want a reminder. But even then there are some books I don't even really have any thoughts about, you know?
ReplyDeleteMy husband made me a spreadsheet for doing that but when my computer died I lost the program and I'm too lazy to do all I have to to verify and reload it lol
DeleteI totally get the no thoughts thing. Sometimes I just have nothing to say lol
That's because YOU REBEL 🤣. But for real - it fits where you are as a blogger right now. All the freedom!
ReplyDeleteI do! But it's only rebelling if you're a blogger. Every single person I know outside of blogging just reads. They might add it as read to Goodreads but they don't worry about it at all.
DeleteI'm not sure I'll ever be able to get back to that again - turning my brain off fully while reading - but I'm much more relaxed about it.
OMG... that stresses me out if I ever forget to mark a book as read on GR. I have to go back and make sure the "read" date is correct. I'm weird like that.
ReplyDeleteI think 90% of the people I know are like you - so not weird at all!
DeleteI do. I try to write the review right after reading the book so everything is fresh in my mind.
ReplyDeleteThat's great!
DeleteI am like you. I like to leave a few thoughts with my rating for everything I read. Honestly, a lot of those thoughts are just notes for myself.
ReplyDeleteYes! That's what I'm doing. It's just a note so I remember what I like/ didn't like about an author or book.
DeleteI try to review every book that I finish. Usually if I don't finish a book, I don't review it. For the decade that I've done a book a week, I've learned to read ahead. This means that I'm usually writing reviews, or at least thinking about them, sometimes well after I've actually finished reading it. I find that taking notes of my reaction as I read helps me organize thoughts into a hopefully coherent review.
ReplyDeleteYou were SO smart to come up with your one book a week format! The whole thing (reading/reviewing) is more manageable and sustainable without burning out.
DeleteForgot to mark read?!?!? BLASPHEMY
ReplyDeleteBut your short ones are so good
My bigger problem now is that I'm barely reading lol
DeleteNot marking books as Read on Goodreads? *gasp* I'm clutching my little OCD heart. LOL
ReplyDeleteI used to feel such (internal) pressure to review every single book I read. Boy has that changed! Obviously, I will always review any ARC I request but otherwise it's just if I feel like it. Sometimes I don't have much to say or just want to pick up the next book and keep going. :)
I'm the same now. I still can't turn off my reviewer brain though. Whether I write one or not, I'm always, at least mentally, taking notes.
DeleteOn Goodreads, yes. Even if it's just a sentence or two. 😊
