I'm Reading (& a pupdate)...

Hey there!

I'm skipping TMST this week - the question is - If you could have any job in the world, what would it be and why? and I don't have a great answer but check out the other participants if you're curious what they're dream job is!

Kai is completely recovered from his neuter (had a few minor complications but was very good with icing and pain meds) and the terrible twosome are back to running all over the house and creating chaos.

The weather forecasters said it was raining out but I'm pretty sure this is snow lol Ripley LOVES the snow and bouncing like a rabbit in it but Kai seemed to have fun this time too. Personally, I could have lived without it - but I like watching the pure joy of them playing in it.

Right now it is raining - 3 inches so far and a week more ahead.

February Reading

I managed to read 4 books last month! Super happy about it even though it's still taking me a whole month to finish a book - but I'm juggling several at a time so it's working out.

Like a Sister was a decent thriller (3.5 stars - great on audio)
The Roommate Arrangement was pretty good (3.5 stars - KU)
For All the Right Reasons (review)
How to Be Perfect (review)
Dead Silence (4-4.5 stars - deeply atmospheric and riveting. I thought the ending was a bit lacking with a few things)

March Reading (Maybe - mood reader here)

My new (hopefully) Figment proof planting lol Everything is stabby so he (again, hopefully) won't eat it and I can leave at least one of my plants out to see.

Starting Gone Dark this week
Finishing up the delightful Duke, Actually

That's it from here! What are you reading this week?

  1. Yeah that looks like snow. :) Will winter just end?

Dead Silence is gonna be my next read. I was actually going to have read it already but ugh life gets in the way. Hopefully starting it tonight!

  2. Ha ha! That's hilarious that they said it was raining. That's definitely snow. I'm glad Kai is doing better. :)

    1. We were sitting at the table, watching the news, saying it was raining while big fat snowflakes were accumulating outside lol

  4. Oh that is a tough question, to be honest I think I dream of being a stay at home wife/homemaker and mother who homeschools her kids with a beautiful cottage out in the woods. I doubt I will ever get that but its a nice dream to have.

I am loving seeing the books that you read in February! Stay well and thriving.

  5. The dogs in the snow are adorable. I just finished this mystery novel called The Appeal that I loved. I'm currently reading You've Been Volunteered - almost finished!

  6. Good luck with your stabby plant. lol
My dog hates the snow. We had snow twice, just a couple of inches and he refused to walk on it.

Was there ever any doubt? 😅

Good luck with your Figment-proof plant LOL. Though I wouldn't put it past him to eat it. He's a bit of a...prick himself after all 🤣.

Yay for 4 books read! I hope to read Dead Silence soon. I'm curious about that ending now...and look at us, reading the same book for once 😂.

Hahaha - so true and it probably wouldn't even hurt him.

I'm also reading The Kindred right now so that's TWO books we've both read!

Not a bad ending for DS - just a little weaker than what leads up to it, IMO, of course.

    2. But now that I'm looking - I guess the Kindred wasn't you lol

  8. Ugh, my cat Patrick tries to eat every plant I own. I can only keep them in one room now and if the door is ever left open it's game over for the plants.

That's a good month of reading there. I've just started Dead Silence and have high hopes.

Glad the doggies are back at it! I didn't realize what PIA neuter recovery could be until I experienced these past two weeks. I am SO tired.

    1. Every plant in there will stab him, so fingers crossed lol He eats everything too.

Yeah, a neuter is supposed to be so much easier, and it is, but still a pain for everyone.

  9. I love your stabby garden. 😁 I'm happy to see the dogs romping again. 🤗

  10. Great question. After 40 years of toiling at a job I disliked, I'm now free to explore new territory. My new activities won't be a "job" technically 'cause I'll be doing them for fun, not money, but I'll treat them as seriously as my previous work. They'll be art-related because that's what I respect now.

Currently I'm reading a fascinating, if deep, book called "Reality+" by David Chalmer. It's about the reality of virtual environments, consciousness and the surprising possibility that we're actually living in a computer simulation.

    1. I've been able to have, if not my dream job - my dream profession - a few times and it really just ruined my love of it so I'd rather keep things I enjoy a hobby and maybe that's the way to go.

I saw taht you were reading that book. It sounds fascinating and could someone please hti the rest button on the simulation lol

  11. OMG - look how happy the pups are. Yea! Rain after snow is the worst here because the ground is frozen and there is no place for all the water to go. Although it does help melt the snow! LOL

Great job on the reading. I slowed down a little in February, but I'm still ahead, which is good because I always slow down in the summer.

I was on vacation all last week, getting home Saturday. It was a wonderful time but now I play catch up. Good think I have the weekend to get some stuff done before going back to work.

    1. Ripley really loves the snow - Kai seems to like the beach more but they love being outdoors in anything - even rain.

I'm glad you had a nice birthday vacation!

  12. Glad to hear Kai is doing well and enjoying the snow, thankfully not something we have had a lot of this year.

Feeling like I've got a bit of my book/blog mo-jo back, February was a better month for me and I'm hoping March will be even better.

  13. Yay, I'm glad Kai is doing well and the pair are back to causing trouble. The weather folks were definitely wrong as that's 100% snow, but who doesn't like some surprise snow?

I don't love it as much but it was only an inch and was gone by dinner so I'll allow it lol

    1. I think just a planter - you need a cover for a terrarium. It has kept Figgy away so far but let's see if I kill the plants myself lol

  16. You might need to go beauty and the beast style and put your plant under a glass dome if Figment keeps eating them. Though something with air holes might be better :D. I'm reading Packing for Mars by Mary Roach (enjoying it) and re-reading or should I say giving a second chance read to The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern but this time on audio. I love seing the pups have so much fun. Stay toasty! - Sandy

    1. I've looked into the domes but they are SO expensive!!! I have most of my plants in the mantle but I would like more. So far, he hasn't bothered this planter. He has been nibbling my fake plant next to my bed though lol

I think I read Packing for Mars a few years ago. I like Roach. I have not read The Night Circus even though I have had it for YEARS.
