For What It's Worth

Helloooooooooooo

Howdy strangers! I feel like I was finally getting back on the reading/blogging track and then Karen's Series of Unfortunate Events happened and it just felt overwhelming and disheartening so I just stayed away. I'm trying to force myself back into a groove though so here I am!

A few weeks ago I tried to log onto my computer and it was just dead. Turns out Microsoft turned on their encryption program. It's a great tool that you can sign up to and encrypt your files but I didn't so I don't have the key code to unlock it. Even Kevin couldn't fix it. He did manage to at least salvage my computer but I had to do a total reboot of the hard drive. Some people need to get a whole new computer so yay I guess.

I did back up most of my things on Dropbox but I had to reload all my programs and a few things just won't work with my computer now, including Open Live Writer which is how I used to draft my posts and not have to deal with Blogger problems. And Microsoft Office which we got from Kevin's work for $10. It's a pain to reload it because they'll want it reauthorized for the device and now I don't have access to spreadsheets or documents on there.

Then my phone got the black screen of death a few weeks later. It's only about 7 months old and since it was dead dead - I couldn't just transfer info from the old to new phone and had no idea if anything was saved. I was most worried about losing my videos and pictures of Fonzi. I knew I had the newer ones of Ripley & Kai backed up but wasn't sure about Fonzi. (I checked this morning and YES! it all backed up to Amazon Photos)

Anyway - I had insurance so Verizon said they would overnight me a new one. 5 days later I finally got the new phone. So frustrating!

I lost my library book during all this. I was listening to The Firekeeper's Daughter on audio. I only had 3 1/2 hours left but had no phone to listen to it on so that expired and now I'm on a 12 week hold. *cries*

We also had family visit during all this and it was fun but weird venturing back out into the world and mingling with people. We are all vaccinated and still wore masks out but it was the most I've gone out to eat in over a year and inside twice. Eeeek lol

Ok...ok...I'm done with my cathartic whining and will (hopefully) be back to some sort of regular blogging next week. maybe lol

  2. You had a rough week, but at least it finished on a positive note. I was really happy to see that you still had your Fonzie videos.

  3. Oh my goodness, what a perfect storm of crappy stuff to happen. Glad you got the new phone at least... and hopefully you'll get the audiobook back in fewer than 12 weeks.

  4. It's totally okay to just whine and complain. And seriously, that's a lot of unfortunate things happening around the same time! I'm so glad your videos and pics or Fonzi are okay. I'd be really nervous about losing those too!! I hope things settle down and look brighter for you soon.

    1. I was VERY lucky though that I didn't lose the things that were most important to me and that I had insurance on my phone. It could have been worse.

  5. Computer problems are the woe of the modern age. Nothing to do about it except shrug and move on.

    1. They keep making you rely on them more but when the crash happens you have nothing lol

My husband is usually great at fixing everything. Tech loves him but even he couldn't do anything this time.

  6. Honestly, these are the kind of things that just mess up my whole world - so it definitely doesn't feel like whining to me. I mentioned to you before that I had an issue with my phone in 2020 like that too, and I was pretty panicked about the things I had lost. I'm sorry the frustrations still are continuing, but at least they are looking up!

    1. Everything seems to be in order and I found the most important things *knocks on wood* so I'm just picking up and moving on.

It's super frustrating though because so much of your life is in one spot.

    1. My husband has THE BEST luck with it all so I thought he would come home and do his just look at it and it would be fixed routine but nope. The thing I cared most about were my Fonzi pics because I lost him last year and my new puppy pics.

Losing some of my computer programs is frustrating but I'll just need to adapt.

  11. It does sound like you've had quite a time. I'm glad you at least had most stuff saved and that you didn't lose your pictures of Fonzi! But this all still sounds like such a pain.

    1. It was frustrating but all I really wanted was my Fonzi pictures/videos. There won't be anymore and it's all I have left of him.

It was weird being without a phone. I didn't care so much but I didn't realize how much was on there that I needed access to while I was out lol I couldn't' just pull up a map, I was making a return and forgot I didn't have the return code on my phone.

  13. Your Hellloooo made me think of this. https://movie-sounds.org/disney-movie-sound-clips/quotes-with-sound-clips-from-the-many-adventures-of-winnie-the-pooh/hello-out-there-oh-i-hope-nobody-answers

Not the "hope nobody answers part" lol, just the beginning.

Seriously though, you've had a rough few weeks- yikes! That totally sucks but glad you were able to retrieve your pics of Fonzi. I hear you on Blogger problems- drafting posts has been a nightmare lately. I need to look into that alternative program maybe.

Family visiting is fun but it can take a lot out of you sometimes. Glad you had a good visit though. Isn't it weird eating out now again?????

    1. Lol - I'll always take a WtP comparison!

I haven't had any blogger problems. Probably because I'm not posting much lol but I loved using Live Writer to draft. It put everything in the same format first.

  15. What a nightmare! I feel your pain on your laptop. I had to buy a new one as mine just wouldn't start up so I lost everything. Thankfully, I have been able to get Open live Writer to work on my new laptop, but I did have to follow a few discussion threads to find a version which would work. I'm glad you managed to get everything sorted and things were backed up, I lost a few things with the death of my laptop which sucks but I got the important things back (I think).

    1. I have to look for those threads because this happened when I bought this one and I had to use a different link.

It's traumatizing lol and hopefully it will never happen to us again!

  16. Phone and computer both dying on me would have sent me into such a meltdown that you'd have heard me screaming all the way across the pond!

I still haven't manage to force myself back into a blogging schedule or any kind of schedule really but I'm trying! We're more-or-less open again now so I feel like it's time to take some control back...

I don't know... I'm just winging it at this point. Ha
