Reading Update

Reading is still slow going but going! lol

READ

Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert ~ Goodreads

This was the third, and final, book in Hibbert’s Brown sisters series and it was hands down my favorite. I just adored Eve and Jacob and the way they butted heads but understood and made room for each others quirks, habits and needs.

Their personalities were SO different (Eve vibrant and – seemingly – flighty and Jacob very stern and orderly) but they share the same insecurities and fears and understood how to help each other navigate them.

The cottage setting was also delightful and the narration by Ione Butler was fantastic!

(Kind of) READING:

A Promised Land by Barack Obama ~ Goodreads

I was listening to this on audio but it's looong and I’m slooow so my library loan expired around the 35% point.

The first several chapters cover a lot of the same ground as his previous books – as well as from Michelle’s perspective in Becoming (how he came into politics, met Michelle, community organizing) so it wasn’t all that interesting to me until we finally got to the presidential election forward.

Super interesting getting his perspective on other politicians, certain legislation etc.

I’m on hold again (6 month wait *cries*) but I’ll pick it back up then.

READING:

The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune ~ Goodreads

This is not my typical read at all but I am LOVING it!

The story is about a case worker, Linus, who works for the Department in Charge of Magical Youth and is assigned to evaluate the Marsyas Island Orphanage and it’s 6 children – a gnome, a wyvern, a green blob, a were- Pomeranian and the antichrist – and its enigmatic caretaker, Parnassus.

I guess it can be compared to Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs or even Seanan McGuire’s Wayward Children series but I feel like it truly stands on it’s own – so far anyway.

I’m so invested and in love with all the characters and their well being. In a way I never was with aforementioned series. I keep finding myself laughing and worried for the children. It's just such a sweet, sweet but interesting story with just a touch of romance.

I’m about 30% in so we’ll see if that holds but so far I both don’t want it to end so I’m going slow – and knowing I need to speed up and finish this before the loan expires because I know I’ll be devastated if I have to go on hold again and not know how it ends.

What are you all reading?

  2. I'm still reading the midnight doms series and I finally found the missing book that I had been looking for. It's hard to find them all since the series is written by several different authors.

  3. I am such a Jacob fan, and I adored him and Eve together. It was nice to get out of the city too. I don't know if I could pick a favorite Brown Sisters book, because they all delighted me.

  5. I've heard good things about Klune's book so I'm glad you are loving it. I want to read Obama's book, but I know it'll be a bit of a slow read since it's so long! LOL I'm in the midst of a few books. I haven't been able to concentrate the last few days or so. I am enjoying The Truth and Other Hidden Things though.

You ARE loving it indeed then!

I don't know - I'm all for weird books with weird characters, but I'm afraid this would be too fluffy for me (no offence meant of course!)

    1. It's not something I would usually read so I'm surprised. I think it's the sweetness of it. People being kind to each other. It seems in such short supply and it's making my heart happy to read it right now.

    1. I kind of wish I had skipped over the first 3rd. I had already read most of it in his previous books and I probably would have finished this one in time lol I'm on a looooong hold but I'll get back to it.

Yes - the Cerulean Sea is just the sweetest books.
