The #stayathome diaries #3

Because you just have to laugh…

This is such an emotional roller coaster. There are times that I feel ok and like this sucks but we can do it! And other times life feels so bleak and out of control. I think that’s natural though. Even for introverts like me. I don't mind not being around people at all but I still mourn all the things I was looking forward to – like the farmers market and planting a new garden. Little things in the grand scheme of what’s happening but I think it's ok to go through all the emotions while still being grateful that I’m one of the lucky ones with an income, a house and stability in all this.

We got invited on a socially distancing hike this weekend by one of Kevin’s co-workers. We would have met in the parking lot and gone on our different ways – the guy is very experienced with all the off the beaten path trails out here - so he was showing us new places that won’t have anyone around.

But seriously…if an introvert can’t avoid people during a pandemic when can she??? lol I never thought I would have to make excuses to avoid a gathering now! But Kevin had sprained his ankle (for real) so we couldn’t go anyway.

Reading/watching:

So, I read a little. Still not great but I finished (& liked!) a review book (The Perfect Escape) and will hopefully post a review this week.

We watched War of the Worlds on EPIX (it’s also on Amazon Prime) – it’s an 8 episode series – re-imagining the  H.G. Wells classic and it’s really good! Great acting and pacing but very bleak so I get if a lot of people wouldn’t be in the mood for this right now. CW –> violence (also against pregnant women, babies), suicide, reference to molestation just to name a few things. It’s in both English and French with subtitles.

Star Trek: Picard on CBS All Access – Picard is one of my all time favorite characters so it was pretty much guaranteed that I would be biased and love this show but I do think it’s very good. Jean-Luc is still very much a man of honor but now a little jaded so it’s not as hopeful as the series was. I saw that a lot of people didn’t like that aspect but I think it makes it more relevant.

I’ve been having a Hallmark movie night with my friend once a week. We watch a movie and snark text though the whole thing and despite having to work out a few things (time zones and commercial breaks), I think we have it figured out and it’s been so much fun and a nice little bright spot in the week. Highly recommend if you have a friend to do this with.

How are you all doing this week?

  2. I actually think the bra mask is quite pretty. LOL! The only thing I am really disappointed about is not getting to see my daughter. Otherwise, this has been one realllllllly long weekend for me.

    1. It is!!!

I didn't do a whole lot before anyway but I was so looking forward to starting my new flower garden. I really miss my FL butterfly garden.

  3. It can be the simple things that we miss. Chatting to the postman in the morning, going for a quiet drive to the coast, stuff like that. Usually my dad goes round to the shops while I sit in for Amazon deliveries but I won't let him at the moment so I have to do it and I hate going out! I laughed at poor Kevin's accident giving you the perfect excuse!

  4. This is the second time I’ve seen that Pooh meme and it slays me. I can’t stop laughing. :) Your Hallmark movie night sounds fun. I keep reminding myself this situation is temporary but sometimes it does feel like there’s no end in sight.

    1. I remember one from way back in the swine flu days of Pooh telling Piglet to f*ck off lol

I think I could handle it better if it seemed like there was one cohesive plan for opening back up that wasn't just...let's all go shopping again!

we all want to do that but I think we all understand that we need a plan to prevent flareups so we don't end up here again.

  5. You never realize how much you touch your face until you aren't able to. And man I miss going to resturaunts or to the salon or to the bookstore.

  6. We're all stressed by this change in our lives. I like your comment about how introverts (you and me) react to it different from extroverts. True!

    1. I'm fine not interacting with anyone but I still miss my daily shopping - even though it was just one stop for fresh fruit/veggies. I'm lucky to still have places to walk where there are not a lot of people.

I feel bad for extroverts though or those with small children lol

  7. That Pooh one made me laugh. :) And it is hard. Who knew I touched my face so much lol? I'll catch myself doing that or rubbing my eyes or something natural, you know, and then I'm all like ack CONTAGION. It's all so ridiculous... the mask stuff cracks me up too, which is good I guess since humor helps to alleviate all the bad.

My reading's been whatever too. Ooh War of the Worlds though- I saw a preview for that and thought it looked really good, but just wasn't sure. Glad to see someone's checked it out and that it was good! Oh, and just so you know- I watched Blow The Man Down last night. I think that was your rec? Cracked me up!

    1. Yes it was! I'm glad you liked it. The older women were like the mafia lol Did you like the end? Some people didn't and I can see why but I liked it.

I think you would like WotW. I can see how it wouldn't be for everyone right now because it's dark but it was very good.

    2. Yes! that last shot with that sweet little old lady lol washing out the cooler! And I thought the older sister and the cop were gonna get together but he was too much of a Boy Scout at the end I guess lol. Dummy haha!

Oh and it took me half the movie to realize that was Annette O'Toole! But yeah I did like it :)

I'll definitely have to try WotW.

  8. You’re not alone in being sad about the things you’re missing out even when you’re fine with having to stay home. I was meant to be going to a Tutankhamun exhibit last weekend, I was really excited for it, and obviously the trip was cancelled. I am so grateful I’m home safe and my family is all in good health, but it’s ok to be upset you’re missing things. We all are and hopefully it means we appreciate the little things that bit more when life starts to return to normal. You made me smile saying if you can’t avoid people in a pandemic when can you. I normally see myself as an introvert but I’m suddenly eager to go out and see people. maybe I’m more extroverted than I originally thought. or maybe being stuck at home alone is wearing me down.

Glad you finished and enjoyed a book. And you enjoyed picard? I’ve seen the first 2 episodes and then fell behind but what I’ve seen was really good. Must finish watching.

    1. I'm fine not hanging around with anyone but I did go out for fresh veggies and fruit every morning and I miss that.

I could watch Picard sit and read from a book so I knew I would love just seeing him but I think the series is quite good.

  9. I really want to see Star Trek: Picard on CBS All Access, but I don't have a subscription, so I am waiting for the season to be complete, then I'll get a month - is it done yet? We've been watching a mix of new to us shows and some favorites. But we seem to be over a lot of the shows. *sigh* Hope you and yours are well.

  10. Ah, I love all the memes. You have to laugh sometimes. And it's totally understandable to mourn the things that are different, or that you've lost, while still being grateful that you're healthy and all that. It's such a weird time in the world, and it can definitely get overwhelming. I'm trying to read more, but it's sometimes slow going, which is okay. I love that you do socially distant Hallmark movie watches with a friend. I wonder if I have a friend I could get to do that...or any movie really. LOL

  12. Yeah, I think everyone has been feeling very up and down. Even those of us who are introverts are still missing out on things!

  13. "Little things in the grand scheme of what’s happening".
Hey, we are allowed to miss the little things. They're what make our life worth living.

I think we in Italy are nearing the end of this, sort of - it's likely that we'll have one more month to go before we slowly start living a semi-normal life again. You in the U.S. went into lockdown after us, so it's still a long way to go, I guess. Brace yourself. It's nice that you're doing the Hallmark movie night thing - hard times need some creative adjustments LOL.

    1. It seems like we'll be hurtling towards recovery shopping whether we should or not. Which also means we'll be back in lockdown. Or not since we don't seem to give a damn. I'm obviously having a down day lol

  14. I think it's ok to be sad about all the things you're missing... A lot of people are acting like people don't a right to be sad about missing the little things when the world has bigger problems but I'm one of those people who lives life in the little details so it's the loss of those that's getting to me the most. I'm okay with holidays being cancelled but not being able to pop out for a coffee and 'me' time is killing me. :(

The bra meme made me laugh. If I used mine, I'd look like the bottom picture... And I think I share those top 3 hobbies! lol

    1. There's also this ridiculous ...learn a hobby, become fluent in a foreign language, this time is a gift thing and that may be true for a lot of people. I know I bought a sewing machine but some days getting out of bed is a struggle and you might just nap the months away and that's fine!!

Not everyone is going to have the same reaction - even day to day.

  15. It's tough times. It's definitely normal and fair to be upset by small things you're missing out on, even when you know there are bigger problems going on. I'm glad you're staying safe though and don't have to worry about your job situation. Lol, it is funny to think you can't even avoid being invited to things during quarantine. Glad you've found some good things to read and watch at least!

I know!!! If you can't be an introvert during a quarantine when can you be??

Reading is slow going but we've been watching a few series.

  16. I relate so much to the emotional rollercoaster. Some days I am doing just fine and I have all the motivation to do all the creative things. At other times I feel like doing absolutely nothing. I just take it day by day...

  17. I have a friend on Facebook who went off on a couple of us for posting comical things about quarantine. Ha ha. I don't get it, when there is nothing you can do about the situation humor makes it better. 😁

It's good to get outside. Someone on Twitter was saying they were sad they couldn't sit out on their back deck because we aren't allowed to go outside unless we are getting groceries. 😄

It's weird how different all our restrictions are. I'm so lucky to be in a sparsely populated area. I can go walk at my local parks and only see 3-4 people and there's so much space. But some areas had to shut down everything because everyone keeps gathering.

And I have no lines to my grocery stores but most of my friends in the US and all around the world have to wait in long lines and it's an hours long affair.
