My Monday Musings…

I made a point of tackling my TBR last year and was quite successful! I started at 148 and got down to just over 40 before my move.

Now that I’m settled in my new place, it seemed like my books were multiplying again lol

I decided to do a new count and double down on the book tackling again in 2020.

*If you read my reading goal posts from last week – one goal was to start a spreadsheet for what I was reading and Kevin, very nicely, set one up for me. So I think I was thinking of starting a TBR spreadsheet for these books too (meaning Kevin would do it lol) but I made a Goodreads TBR 2020 shelf instead. MUCH easier to just scan in all the covers! You can check it out here.

So here are the pile...

There are a total of 67 books - most from past conferences, followed by books sent by friends or publishers and a few that I purchased (even from when Borders had their big closing sale!).

I'll go by date for the newer arc's I need to review (7 books) in the coming months but most are way past due for that. BAD BLOGGER! But it's always good to give books a second round of attention long after the hype as died down so I'm going to try not to feel too bad about it.

I think this is a pretty manageable number and varied enough to fit any reading mood I might be in.

What does your TBR look like? Any books here that you think I should read or pass on?

Good point. Nevertheless...you are one bad blogger! 🤣 😜

My TBR pile right now is made of all the boosk I purchased for Christmas bar one. Yeah, that's right - I haven't had a scrap of time to start another one of them, what with blogging ahead, helping a friend with a novel she's sending to a contest and...life in general. Then again, there are only 9 of them (nothing like the 67 you have LOL), and I'm starting Middlegame today (buddy-read with my friend Carrie, so it should be double the fun).

Typically, I can't see any book that I've read/I have on my TBR list in your piles...so I wouldn't know what to suggest LOL.

  2. Good luck with your TBR. That number, 67, isn't so bad. If I had to log all the books lining my wall and in the hallway, there would be a lot. And then, there are the ebooks. I just keep track of ARCs, and throw in some of my own books here and there.

    1. I tackled the Kindle several years ago and I'm probably at 30 or so. I don't count them because I bought them to read whenever and I don't add to to too often.

This pile feels like it need st be conquered. So many were from conferences and should have been reviewed. Back from when I didn't manage my arc's as well. lol

  3. When did your Boarders close? I think ours closed around 2010-11! 😅

I am trying to get my last three or four ARCs from last year read. It will be the first year since joining NetGalley and Edelweiss that I will have read all of a year's books! 📚

Good luck, although you don't need it because you did so well last time. 👍✨

    1. Same. So that should tell you how well I've tackled the TBR pile lol

it took me YEARS to get down to this # though. I tried but always failed. The key for me was not getting many arc's anymore.

  4. Good luck with all these! That's a HUGE pile! I really loved Warrior of the Wild and Ninth House!

  5. I like it when a book gets reviewed after it's been out for a while. So many books get that initial buzz and then it's on to the next thing, so it's cool that you're reviewing some of these late haha! Hope they're all good! I see Alex and Ada in there lol. I liked it but remember being a little ambivalent about how it ended- I should re- read it and see what I think now.

    1. I agree. I'm leaning more and more to older books so I appreciate them being put on my radar. A lot are books I couldn't get to at the time and it's a reminder.

Is Alex and Ada a series? I'll have to look that up. And prepare myself for an iffy ending lol

    2. It is a series. I think there were three graphic novels?

  6. You did fantastic getting through your pile right up to your move and you didn't pile on too many more afterward. Great job.
If we brought my TBR pile into play, we'd be looking at quadruple digits (this includes ebooks, audios, and prints), but my review pile is at about ten past due right now. I have taken to reading a 50/50 split of books from my shelf or my library list along with books from my review stack. I take fewer books these days so hope to eventually narrow down the number.

    1. These are just my - on the shelf - physical books. I have about another 30-ish on my Kindle and 4 on Netgalley.

I don't take on many anymore either so this is the pile I'm going to focus on.

I'm not even trying to clear anything out to 0 - just keep things manageable.

  7. I wasn't a huge fan of The Ninth House but I'm kind of on my own island about that one, lol.

  8. I remember when you set this goal before and then I followed you and got from 200 to 30. It took like 2 years, and I dnfed A LOT. So we can do it again!

  9. I have so many on my TBR both books I own and books on my wishlist. Its the curse of reading as much as I do lol

You have some great books on your list there though. I highly recommend those Laura Kaye books...she is fabulous

    1. I don't really keep a wish list - like on Goodreads. That's just way too overwhelming for me and I end up not forgetting/reading most of them anyway. I do keep a small wish list on Libby and work my way through.

  10. I have an ARC of The Gravity of Us that I hope to read soon. I think it comes out tomorrow, actually, so I'm a bit behind. LOL The only one I've read - at least as far as I can tell - is The Love Interest. I really liked it! I'm excited for his next book.

    1. A friend sent me that one because she loved it too. I guess that means I'm behind with The Gravity of Us too lol

  11. Hurrah for your growing book pile! I'd actually be celebrating if I was anywhere close to your numbers! I can't recommend any from your list as I don't know most of them!

  12. 67 doesn't seem so bad! I remember when you where whittling the TBR down from 150ish and got it down to almost nothing. You can totally manage this one.

I also spot some Kate Daniels on that list! You know how much I love that series (and Ilona Andrews) so I'm excited. Secondhand excitement for someone is totally a thing, lol.

  13. I just can't... ever get around to all the books by the deadline. But I tell myself that hyping them up is still hyping them? And it helps if people hear about it right away for initial sales, but long term sales go a long way too. It looks like you have some golden books in that stack so happy reading!
