Whatever Wednesday: It’s beginning to look like…a scary Christmas

As most of you know, I’m a Halloween girl. I go all in! But I don't do much of anything for Christmas. I don’t dislike the holidays but it's usually so loud and busy and chaotic – BUY BUY BUY!!!! I’d just rather hide until it’s over.

But we did get a new house and it has a fireplace and it's Christmassy & cold outside so we put up a tree for the first time in close to 30 years. It’s fake but hey – it’s a tree. They are SUPER expensive btw! We had a few Lowe’s gift cards and a 10% military discount that we used when the trees were 30% off but yikes.

Here's the tree in all it's glory!

If you noticed some not so Christmas like decor under the tree - you would be correct. Just because I've caved to the holiday cheer doesn't mean I didn't bring my creepy side with me lol

My skeleton and zombie squirrel were carry overs from Halloween and then my friends started indulging my weirdness with the BEST GIFTS EVER!

ZOMBIE SANTA!!! Look at all the little details - his creepy little toes coming out of his boot, rotting flesh on his palm.

Jolly old Saint Nick - don't forget to leave him milk, cookies & braaaaains lol

(from Brooke - thank you! MUAH!).

And Lindsi sent me this hilarious gnome eating cat garden statue. I can't wait to put him outside once I get a new garden going here but for now he looks like he's eating elves and pretty festive in his red ribbon so now I have an army of the undead guarding my tree! 😂😂

For my non-evil Christmas friends (which I assume is most of you lol)- here's a very sweet gift I got to welcome me to the neighborhood from the woman next door.

It was a small poinsettia with a card, a small bag of chocolates and this little pineapple charm. The card that came with the pineapple says:

"A pineapple symbolizes welcome and that's why it's here, just place in your home to bring good cheer.
It brings warmth and affection and hospitality too...with a reminder to cherish friendships the whole year through."

How sweet is that??!!

How is your holiday season going? Do you have any traditions or are you just hibernating until the chaos all ends?

I sent all my gifts out last week, wrapped Kevin's today so I am DONE.

Of course! We wouldn't expect less from you! 😉

The tree looks classy, and the whole fireplace setting so warm (ha!) and nice...sleeping Fonzi in the background included 😂.

I'd already seen the decor on Twitter...and man, does that kitty look creepy. Maybe the nice woman next door will regret sending you a welcome gift once she sees it in your garden 😂.

I'm sort of hibernating...but then again, it's what I do all year round - you know why. Yesterday I went out (on foot) for errands that weren't Christmas-related, and I didn't even have the time and energy to look at the festive shop windows...

    1. Fonzi and Figgy fight to get in front of the fireplace first lol God forbid they SHARE.

I really dislike the season. Some of it is nice but the relentless advertising and rushing is awful. Not to mention the opposite of what the season should be.

I love spring when everything is settled and the garden stuff starts to come out. And of course, Halloween.

  4. I think your Christmas tree looks great! We had a fake silver tree for years when I was a kid and I loved decorating it but once it fell apart we never replaced it. That was really nice of your new neighbour...and I've learned something new about pineapples! I don't bother with Christmas so I'm in hibernation until it is over!

    1. We had stopped originally because of the animals but neither of us are really into the holiday and never bothered.

I didn't know about the pineapple either!

  5. OMG, I love that you made the tree so uniquely you with all the nods to Halloween and non-traditional decor. Love the skeleton and the zombie Santa. And what a sweet gift from your neighbor!

    1. Thank you :-) Overly sweet just isn't my thing lol

It was so thoughtful. At first I thought it was just the poinsettia - also nice! But the candy and pineapple was a nice touch.

  7. You know I LOVE your spooky Christmas tree! Mine is very blah. I can't work up the enthusiasm to go all out because my cats only destroy everything we put on the tree. Some day I might have nice things :)

  8. I love your tree and all the spooky Halloween type stuff too. I love halloween decorations but I hadn't used mine in years so I gave them all to my daughter who loves it. I still put up the tree and decoration a bit for Christmas though. It's just so hard when you have bad knees.

    1. I just helped my neighbor (who gave me the welcoming gift) bring her decorations up to her house. She had knee replacement surgery and was trying to drag a box up the stairs from her basement. I think she just put up a tree instead of the whole outdoor thing because of it.

  10. I love your creepy Christmas decor! I used to have a Jack Skellington plush doll which was my favourite Christmas decor piece. He used to sit on my monitor at work and glare at all the cutesiness surrounding me! I'm not sure what happened to him now? Charity shopped in one of our downsizing endeavours I guess. I hope he's still glaring somewhere!

  11. I love it! I love the Christmas tree with the creepy Christmas accessories and ornaments. Zombie Santa is particularly cool but the gnome eating cat is also awesome and would be welcome in my garden, lol.

I'm done with my own shopping and wrapping... Just need to go buy the food! That's today's chore (sobs and begs for mercy). My mum arrives tomorrow and needs to go shopping for her gifts so I'll sadly have to brave the stores again. *sigh* I'll make the most of it though.

  12. OMG - this tree is totally fabulous, and the little trinkets that your friends have helped you to add on are too perfect and so creative. I'll bet there's lots of fun over at our place. Sending you lots of hugs, RO

  14. Zombie Santa for the win! 💀 I have friends in LA who do a Halloween themed Xmas tree. They add an ornament every year and I love seeing what they have picked. Now your tree can entertain me every year, too! 🎄

How wonderful your new neighbor gave you gifts. 🎁
