My Monday Musings…

I’m moving into my new house this week!!

We officially closed on Friday and moved the smaller items over on the weekend but the furniture goes in Tuesday and that’s when it's all official.

Then we have some cleaning to do at the rental but then it should be done!

The Fonzi saga continues: He had his ultrasound and they didn’t see anything that would contribute to his abnormal bloodwork. Yay! I was worried about tumors. But they did find a sludgy gallbladder. Boo. Basically, this means that mucus builds up until it can’t function properly and it bursts. Killing the dog. So even though it’s kind of scary I’m really glad we caught it very early. He’s on meds to dissolve it and hopefully that will work. Otherwise he gets it removed which I guess is  complicated surgery because some of it can leak and become toxic and kill the dog during recovery. So let’s avoid all that shall we??!!

However, we still have to find out what’s causing his low protein levels because at some point it will get too low and cause a problem. GAH!

He also apparently learned how to unlock my phone and camera to take a selfie lol

Reading:

I’ve read NOTHING for weeks now. Nothing is holding my attention. I’ve returned all my library and KU books after a few chapters. I have no idea what I’m even in the mood for right now.

I am all caught up on arc’s and reviews though so at least there’s no stress there.

Randomny randomness…

What’s up with this bearded guy?? He’s EVERYWHERE! lol

I know him and connect him to Penny Reid’s Winston Brothers series (& it’s a fun one!)

But now the dude is popping up all over and I was seeing several different author names on the books and thought hmmmm….that’s weird that so many authors would deliberately copy another authors branding so blatantly.

But after a little researching (ok I stumbled onto it) I found out that Reid opened up her “Pennyverse” and allows other authors to do their take on her world. With fanfic using her characters, or adding a new couple but in one of her worlds.

This is all published under Smartypants Romance.

TBH, I’m kind of confused by the whole thing and not sure if I want alternate timelines or another author writing my favorite characters but some of the stories sound really fun too and in the spirit of Reid’s romances – smart, sexy and funny. And as far as I can tell – all of them are on KU.

Especially the Green Valley Library Series. These titles are GREAT!

Love in Due Time, Crime and Periodicals, Prose Before Bros, Shelf Awareness

And the Donner Bakery series:

Baking Me Crazy, Stud Muffin, No Whisk, No Reward.

I’m a huge sucker for food themed romance!

Now that I understand this whole bearded dude cover mystery I might have found my new comfort read binge to get me out of my slump!

Have any of you read any of these?

I might be (even more) MIA for this week as I head on over to the new place and try to get settled. I will try to stop by and visit you all though!!

  1. The gallbladder thing in dogs is so shocking. I hope it doesn't have to get removed, given the possible consequences. Nature can be evil!

At least your boy has a sense of humour LOL (re.: selfie).

I hate beards! A bearded man would never draw me to a book LOL. That story about the author opening her book universe to others is funny and unique though. It's like a meme at this point.

Good luck on the move! We expect photos when you're settled 😉 (maybe Fonzi can help you with them 🤣).

    1. I guess the issue is common to shelties - I'm glad we caught it but I hope we can resolve it without the risky surgery.

I'm not a beard fan either lol

I'm exhausted so it's going to be a loooong week. We got a lot done over the weekend but tomorrow is the big moving day. Then it's reorganizing and cleaning up the townhowme.

Then a REALLY long nap lol

  2. Poor Fonzi!! I hope things start to improve for him. And congratulations on the new house!!! Yay! I wanted to love that first Beard series, but I hated book one. Everyone says the rest are MUCH better. I did listen to the 5th book on audio and really enjoyed it. I love beards, I want to love these books! Lol

I can't remember the first book but I've read a few from the series and know I enjoyed them.

  3. I have not read any of those, but I think Lisa from Lisa Loves Literature has if you want to see what she thought. I hope it gets you out of your reading slump.

And I'm glad that Fonzi doesn't have tumors or anything, but scary about the gallbladder stuff! I hope it all works out and you figure out the low protein issue too. I love that he took a selfie. LOL

Congrats on the house! I'm going to need your new address. :)

Yeah - the Fonzi stuff is scary. went in for one thing and find out something totally different. He gets rechecked in 2 more weeks to see if any of it dissolved.

      I'll DM you that info!

  4. Poor Fonzi. I hope he doesn't have to have surgery. It's funny that he was able to unlock your phone and take a selfie.

And then open the camera lol

  6. I'm a huge fan of the Winston Brothers series, but I've yet to check out her bearded universe. Lol.

Congrats on the house again, and I hope your pupper will feel better soon. I used to pet sit my aunt's chihuahua that I just recently found out that will be put down on Wednesday. To be fair, he's 14 years old and have been having so much problems lately. So yes, preemptive action is always good.

    1. We caught this totally by accident. The vet didn't even think we needed the ultrasound but I insisted lol

I really hope we caught it in time for medication to work.

  7. Congrats on the house, and good luck with moving. It's fun, isn't it? Not! Still, sounds like an exciting time!

Poor Fonzi is going through a rough patch! Sending prayers and lotsa healing vibes his way!!! Hope he's good to go soon. :)

I've seen that bearded dude around I think lol.

  8. I love Penny Reid, and I really need to get that last Winston Brothers book. Poor Fonzie. It is great that they found the gallbladder issue and can medicate, but I hope they find whatever else is going on with him too. Good luck with your move and congratulations on your new home.

  9. Great news about the house-that will be a relief! I'm glad that Fonzi has no tumours and that treatment for the gallbladder has begun. Hopefully surgery won't be required, poor wee guy! When I get that non reading mood, I tend to turn to a re-read of a short book I like or switch to a non fiction subject that I like. It doesn't always work but most times it helps. I hate that kind of spell where no books interest me.

    1. I hope the meds worked. the surgery is very risky. Well, the surgery isn't but the recovery is.

I can't read anything! I did start an audiobook today so maybe that will jump start me.

  10. Fonzi is a genius for figuring out how to unlock your phone for selfies, and what a selfie! Hopefully, you find out more about what's causing his problems too because a lot of what you said sounds scary!

And sorry you've not been able to settle on anything to read, hopefully you'll get out of that soon.

  11. I hope the meds help Fonzi! That's kind of scary to know that a gallbladder could cause so much trouble.

  12. Seeing as how it’s now Wednesday I guess you are officially in the new house Yay! Hope the move went smoothly. Man, I hate moving. Such a pain. Our last one (hopefully THE last one) was during September (a year ago) and temps were through the roof. So miserable. Love the Fonzi selfie. LOL Hope the protein issue gets figured out. I’m actually not a fan of Reid’s covers. Between that and the cutesy/punny titles I’ve never been drawn to read the books. But if they can pull you out of your slump... then they’re awesome!

  13. I am sorry about Fonzi.I went through a lot of that with my cat last year and never got a definitive answer. He’s doing okay but at 16 I know it’s just at matter of time. Having a pet get old is so hard. I am super excited to hear about your house. Hopefully that goes smoothly I never noticed all those bearded guys. Now I am going to pay attention.

    1. We need to do one more test for the bloodwork issue but she didn't want to do it with this gallbladder thing going on.

The bloddowrk could be age related but he has no other symptoms so it's perplexing.

  14. Sometimes we just don't have much time for reading and it is perfectly fine to take a bit of break from it all. I hope Fonzi recovers well. Fonzi's really been going through a lot lately :( Moving is always a lot of hard work so I hope it goes well for you!

Sending all the healthy energies for Fonzi. How are the fur babies liking their new digs? 🐾🐾🐾🐾

Taking a break from reading is okay. I was going to try and catch up on reading I didn't get to in December, but I'm thinking I might take a break and watch movies for a change. 👍✨

  16. Fonzi! Poor baby! He's having health issues AND he can't see out of the windows?? ;) I really hope everything goes okay, and the medicine dissolves it so there's no need for surgery. I cannot imagine how stressful all of that must be for you. It's good Figment is adjusting well! Maybe he's a pro-traveler now? No?

Yes! That bearded man is EVERYWHERE. I'm so happy you decided to look into it, because I was curious, but not THAT curious. Haha!

  17. Poor Fonzi! I'm sorry - I just saw the "no cancer" tweet and didn't realize this issue was actually fairly concerning. My dog has had two surgeries, one at age 5 and one last year. And he's plugging along. (He also had an ultrasound and then a barium x-ray test a year or so ago because he was vomiting blood but they found nothing. He's high maintenance but we love him.)

Bearded man fanfic and what?? ... NO I AM NOT FALLING DOWN THAT RABBIT HOLE KAREN

    1. Yeah - he goes in Friday to see if the meds help. the surgery is fairly series. There's a high risk of infection after.

I'm going to attempt the fanfic just to see lol

  21. I'm so relieved he's mostly okay, hopefully the medication dissolves it so he won't require any surgery. Could the protein be diet related? That selfie is absolutely adorable 😂 he's so cute and such a character. I hope the move is going well and Fig is settling in. Might need to bring out the cactus again and his excited badge 🤣

  22. Having been in the military, then traveling frequently for jobs, I'm no fan of moving, but it's very cool that you got a new house that you love. I'm really happy for you and looking forward to lots of pics! At least everything can be controlled with medication, and nothing major. That's really good news. Happy Wednesday and hugs! RO

  23. Huh, I too have been wondering about the beardy guy! That clears that up.

I love the Fonzi selfie! Hope the gallbladder sludge dissolves and he makes a full recovery without surgery! I don't like the sounds of that. :/
