Ramblings…

Hey there! I usually try to do these updates on a  Monday but I’ve mostly been MIA for the week. I’ve been trying to keep up with blog visits/comments at least.

Life has been a little chaotic for me.

We had our home inspection (for the house we’re buying). It went ok – there were a few things but the owners fixed them. We’re doing the whole banking process online which should be easier. You would think. But it’s non stop signing and re-signing documents – almost all day. I think they think it’s so easy to do the docu-sign that they don’t pay as much attention to what they’re writing up in the contracts so there’s all these ammendums we have to keep initialing.

Then I’ve been sick with various issues. I went to the Dr. yesterday and I’m waiting for some lab results but should be on the right path with a few med adjustments. But the whole thing has made me feel sluggish and wanting to hide under a blanket. I haven’t even felt like reading which is depressing.

We had Fonzi’s labwork done again after his big dental procedure – hoping all the inflammation/infection has been causing his problems but it’s actually gotten worse since the dental so he goes to the specialist for an abdominal ultrasound next Thursday. I’m trying not to fall into a stress spiral about that one with mixed success.

So enough about all that! I do have a bit of a reading update…

I participated in #ReadForGrace on her B’day – October 14th

I read The Bromance Bookclub by Lyssa Kay Adams from Grace's TBR list and I LOVED it.

I have not been in love with the recent crop of romcom-ish, illustrated cover books that have been hyped recently. I had requested this one ages ago and forgot. TBH, I was dreading reading it but what a pleasant surprise!

It is funny, with all the guys using romance books to help their love lives but this was a lot more serious than I was expecting. A marriage in trouble, a realistic portrayal of marriage (from both sides), great friendships, funny but also emotional. Like I was pissssssed, happy, sad – the whole spectrum of emotions.

Then I grabbed a few more books from Grace’s TBR pile and spent the day at my local chocolate shop sipping Mad Hatter tea, eating pumpkin spice mousse and flipping through books. It seemed like a fitting tribute to Grace.

I really want to get back to reading and blogging and I’m hoping to start Crier’s War by Nina Varela today. It’s fantasy so we’ll see how it goes. Not my usual genre but it’s a library book so I can just return it if it isn’t working for me.

And to end this downer of a post on a happier/fun note – this is a bear carving we found in a front yard while walking the other day. We live in a logging/papermill area so there are a lot of things like this around but I’ve never seen one quite like this – or as part of the tree. So cool though right??!!

  1. ((HUGS)) I hope the news for both you and Fonzie is good. That tree carving is amazing, and I do believe Grace would approve of reading, eating pumpkin mousse, and drinking tea. I spy one of my favorites in that stack too (Geography of Lost Things). Bromance was a hit for me. I can't believe we are lucky enough to be getting more books in that world. Whee!

    1. I'm doing a little better and one result came back negative so yay!

I started Geography there - I've already read Death Prefers Blondes and I think I'm going to do the other one on audio.

  2. Glad the inspection went okay and the owners are not balking at what needs to be fixed. The signing... OMG all the signing. Most of ours was electronic as well but still... it was so much. And then all the in-person signing at the closing. Gah! I hope the med adjustment helps and you start feeling better. {{hugs}} I was thinking of Grace on Monday (last Monday), too, as I was reading Twice in a Blue Moon. She loved Christina Lauren and I found myself wondering what she would have thought of this one.

    1. It's been over 20 years since I last bought a house. I remember all the paperwork at signing but it seems like every day they change or add something and because it's an edoc they consider it easy to sign. It is - but it's been 3-4 times a day for a few days there lol

  3. I am sorry things have been so stressful for you lately. I hope everything settles out soon. Hang in there. Things have been super stressful, but I am sure there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have the Bromance Club, I have got to get to it.

    1. Yeah - I'll make it through. I'm looking forward to settling in my new place and finaly being able to relax and unpack fully from FL.
And I'll feel better once I have a handle on what's going on with Fonzi.
I loved the Bromance Book Club. It was so much mroe than I was expecting.

  4. I hope you feel better soon! That does sound like a lot. The Crier's War sounds really good and it's one I've definitely been curious about. I hope you enjoy it! That carving is incredible!

    1. I've read great reviews for CW. Fantasy is not my usual genre so we'll see if I can stick with it lol

  5. And here I thought you weren't posting because I've been on a blogging frenzy 😂. Seriously girl, I'm sorry you had a bad week, but I hope the light at the end of the tunnel is near! About Fonzi...well...I can only send HUGS to both of you and tons of good vibes!

About the home thing...I'm surprised it's so complicated. When we bought ours, we went to the notary's with the vendors, and completed the whole process in a few hours. Of course, we had to pay him too LOL. I hope you get to move to your new home soon! That should probably ease some of your health problems as well (you don't need me to tell you that stress can do funny-not-funny things to a body).

That carved bear is a masterpiece!

    1. Yeah - stress makes everything worse! The health issues are kind of an ongoing/age related thing. not a huge deal but uncomfortable until I get it all back under control.

But being stressed about Fonzi at the same time sort of had me hiding under the covers lol Plus it was raining for several days.

The home thing is weird. We signed the purchase contract but then every time something changes - like the closing date or the responses to the inspection you have to initial and sign again. Not a huge deal but last week it was happening 3-4 times per day. Then we had to sign for bank things as that progressed too. Like authorization to check our credit etc.

We have to dot he notary at closing too and yes, pay them lol

  6. That bear carving is SO cool!

I hope you are feeling better. I felt awful in the beginning of the week and I haven't felt much like reading either, which is depressing. I'm slowly getting back into it though. I'm sorry about Fonzi, and I hope that his test results turn out well!! Hugs to you both!!!

I'm glad to hear you liked The Bromance Book Club; I'm so curious about that one.

    1. I'm sure you needed a break and to process your emotions before getting back into things.

Bromance Book Club was so good! Funny but more emotional than I was expecting.

  7. Sorry to hear things have been so crappy. 😞 I'm sending healing vibes to both you and Fonzi. (((((((HUGS)))))))

At least the house sale is moving forward, no matter how pesky. That's a plus. 👍✨

I read Circe from Grace's TBR and loved it. Next year I'll have to go to a coffee shop on her birthday. That was a wonderful idea. 💜

I hope things start going smoother for you in this upcoming week. 🌞

    1. Yes! I'm excited to be int he new place. it's very bright and roomy. Not looking forward to the actual move but then I'll be DONE for many, many years.

The coffee shop has a wall of vintage books too so it was really perfect.

    1. XOXO

Every time they make the most minor of changed - just forgetting a word - you have to initial and sign again.

This week was quite at least lol

  9. It sounds like buying a house takes so much more effort than films make it look like. One signature and grab the keys. We wish! I have heard such good things about The Bromance Book Club and now I want to read it. I love light hearted but then also having some serious undertones as well.

    1. Definitely not that simple! lol But I remember back when you had to physically sign things the only barrage of paperwork was at the closing. Now that you can e-sign they are constantly sending you things.

Bromance was so much more than I was expecting.

  10. I can imagine your stress levels about Fonzi right now. I really hope the news turns out better. I love that kind of tree carving! I watched the early seasons of Timber Kings where they put carvings of animals and paw prints and stuff into the log cabin homes. I loved that! This bear is really cool!

    1. Yeah - I'm trying not to think too much about it. I lost the other two just over the last few years and he's my baby right now.

Carving is a big thing out here but it's usually reserved for commercial properties so that was a fun discovery.

  11. I feel you on house buying it's stressful and there are so many things to sign! I also went the online route with my bank, it was actually surprisingly stress free, I feel like it's the only part which has been so far.

Sorry your health hasn't been great and that Fonzi isn't doing better either. At least The Bromance Book Club was a pleasant surprise, I've seen enough positive things that I can't wait to read.

    1. The bank is being fantastic. This is the 3rd house we've bought and we don't have one locally so it's always been through the mail or, recently, on line. It's more the realtors that keep forgetting a word here or there.

It's nothing major but it all has to be in order for closing and we have to initial and sign for every change they make.

  12. Aw Karen, I'm sorry to hear that Fonzi's lab results didn't improve and he needs more tests. It's horrible and I don't blame you for hitting the stress spiral! I have a lot less going on in my life at the moment and I'm drowning.

Your Read For Grace sounds like it was a great success though! Mine was decidedly less than successful but I figured it was the thought that counts...

    1. I was REALLY hoping it was all the inflammation and infection with his teeth.

I actually didn't get more than the one book fully read but I felt it was more the gesture and doing something I thought she would enjoy for the day.

  13. I love the tribute to Grace. <3 This community is so awesome.

I hope you'll feel better soon, and wishing for some positive feedbacks from your doctor.
