The Friday 5

I saw a few lists recently that I wanted to combine to make up my Friday 5.

The first was The Top 10 Tuesday topic of Unpopular Bookish Opinions & the second, Elgee Writes: A Non-Bookish Tag – Why I’m Weird.

So here is my hybrid version of those…

Top 5 unpopular opinions/things about me that make me weird

1.

The Hunger Games Prequel

Unpopular opinion – don’t care

Collins gave me severe book trust issues with Mockingjay and I need more information before I will read anything by her again.

*Also - see #5

I have never been sorted into a Hogwart house.

I’m glad everyone enjoys it but I don’t get it myself.

3.

Order and rigid organization freaks me out and makes me less organized.

Most bloggers confess to being ultra organized and using spreadsheets for their reading/blogging as a dirty secret but everyone I know does this. including my husband. So I feel like the unpopular opinion is that I don’t lol

I’m not unorganized – I have post-it notes, a planner and have a vague idea of what I would like to post or blog about floating around in my head but I can only go a few days ahead or else I get too pressured.

I’ve tried blogging weeks ahead but I feel completely out of touch with the posts when they finally go up and I don’t like that. I like to talk about what I'm feeling in the moment.

I definitely can’t plan my reading anymore because it takes the fun out of it and I don’t really care about keeping track of the details of my reading/tv/movie watching. I do it and move on.

One look at my horrendous Goodreads shelves will show that.
I keep track of the total # read and a few other things (like the source of book – library, KU) and that’s it.

Jacob was a controlling jerk in Twilight.

I know most people (justifiably) slam Edward for his creepy ass stalking but I always thought he at least tried to give Bella free choice over her future whereas Jacob always thought he knew best and treated her like shit when she wouldn’t do what he wanted – throwing temper tantrums and forcing kisses.

It seems like we were all distracted by....something....what could it be?? lol

Maybe a 3rd option for a love interest would have been better here.

SUPER unpopular opinion (I think)

I don’t like when series go on forever.

I think a trilogy is more than enough in books (other than loosely connected/different couple romance series)

3-4 seasons are more than enough for most tv series.

So there are my unpopular opinions and things that I think make me weird - what are yours or come at me with why I'm WRONG! lol

  1. I have a calendar soo I know what to post when, but nothing over that

    Jacob was an ahole

Why do we need more Hunger Gmes?!

  2. Jacob always bugged me. Bella wanted Edward, not him and he needed to accept that! I am kind of looking forward to more Hunger Games stuff, I must admit! My Hogwarts House is Hufflepuff. I joined the first version of Pottermore and had fun going into shops to buy my books and visit the bank and stuff! I got sorted but then got too busy for a long time to visit. When I went back it was a new version and I didn't much like it so I was never resorted!

    1. I enjoyed HP but I never got as invested in the whole thing.
I do wish I got a chance to see Hogwarts at Universal Studios when I loooooved in FL though.

  3. I haven't even read THG, but writing a prequel NOW? It smells of "I'm out of new ideas, so I might as well make a little more money from that anyway"...I mean, I'm not judging those who are excited for it, but as an author's move, it's kind of fishy...

You know I haven't read HP or Twilight either, so I have no opinions (which is an even more unpopular opinion in itself LOL. "What, you seriously haven't read...???"). But your Jacob comment was funny (and the gif very appropriate hehe).

You already know where I stand in regards to schedules and TV shows, too...scheduling saved my little blogging ass...and I faithfully love my series. But I agree that not every one of them needs to go on for 50 seasons and ultimately turn into a soap opera...To me, it's about quality - I hold shows a grudge when they introduce unnecessary twists just for the sake of not quitting.

    1. I do wish if she was going to write something - it would be something new but I also understand what she would write the prequel.

Mockingjay really shifted tone from the first two books because she became obsessed watching the Iraq war and she incorporated a lot of those themes/issues. (this was from an interview I read with her)

So I get the feeling that Panem will be about parallels to our current political climate and that she has something to say about it. Rather than a cash grab.

But I really hate how so many of her series themes about war and PTSD got lost in movie hype. It was such a series topic but instead they were selling Panem makeup. It felt gross. The series was about kids killing kids.

    2. Thank you for clarifying - you may be right for all I know.

      Panem makeup? What on Earth?

    3. I don't really know... just my thinking. Could be that cash grab for all I know lol Or both.

And I meant to say serious themes not series.

  4. I don't care about the Hunger Games simply because I didn't much care for the original trilogy. That's my unpopular opinion lol.

Even though I prefer series to standalones, I agree that I don't like it when they go on for too long. Maybe cuz I like when the series has an overarching story, and long series seem to just kind of meander.

    1. There are very few book series that truly felt necessary - even if I enjoyed them but TV series are the worst for me. I can't stand watching characters spin in circles for years on end.

  5. I don't do spreadsheets- Lord forbid that would take all the fun out of it. I don't want it to feel like work! I'm the same- I have a notebook and I plan ahead a little, but that's it. And I liked The Hunger Games (having just read them a couple years ago- FINALLY lol) but the idea of a prequel doesn't really excite me, because... I feel like I have the story and don't really need more?

    1. Good to know i'm not the only one!

i have ideas written and a few notes here and there but I can't get too detailed or rigid about it or I freak myself out lol

  6. This was hilarious. However, I am a calendar/spreadsheet person. When I took that personality test in HS, it said I had the personality of a good Army general. I like order. You know I am so over HP, and I was also NEVER sorted.

    1. That's hilarious!

Everyone in my life is SUPER organized.

I am too! Even without the spreadsheets but I also tend to not take on too much in the first place. So a note or simple calendar work fine.

  7. GAH you're killing me with the Mockingjay hate hahahh. I mean- I DO generally agree about the series going on forever thing being annoying, I am not a fan myself. But in this case, I feel like it is a prequel and therefore different? But also, I loved Mockingjay, so.

    1. Never have I been so disappointed in a finale or book than Mockingjay lol SORRY!

Not how it all turned out but how it was written. it felt like a totally different series/author to me.

I can see how Panem would be different though and I'm betting it will be a reflection of today's political climate.

  8. I love longer series with 30 books. lol I've been reading a few series for 20 years and I love it.
I blog ahead but I don't use and spreadsheets and sometimes forget to post something for my Friday posts. lol

    1. But you mostly read the long running romance series right? I don't consider that the same. They can stand alone even though it's the same world. And you could skip around even.

  9. I'm so upset by your first two answers! Haha! I'm super excited for the new Hunger Games book, but it has also been a hundred years since I read The Hunger Games.

  10. I hated Jacob in Twilight so I'm with you on that.
As for the rest... Nope, lol.
Actually, I've been playing Wizards Unite (Pokemon Go for the Wizarding World) this week and I had a moment of feeling like I'm over HP... It feels dirty to say it out loud but I think I kind of am. *hangs head in sadness*

    1. I enjoyed HP when it came out but I didn't think about it once I was done other than selling the movies.

  11. Oh, I've definitely been sorted. I'm kind of an HP freak that wishes Hogwarts was real. I assume that's why most people do it, or just curiosity. I feel like I'll read the Hunger Games prequel just to see what it's all about, but I don't know. I really liked the trilogy, but I've only read them through once.

  12. Lol...this is great. I agree with you on all of these! I don't keep a rigid blog schedule, although I am OCD and very organized. I just don't care enough to track things and keep spreadsheets. It's too much work. I can barely keep a calendar! I was Team Edward all the way. :D I hate series. I don't even like when they're more than 2 books. It's too much of a time commitment! I haven't gotten past the 3rd HP book and have never been 'sorted'. And I hated The Hunger Games. I didn't read past the first book.

  13. Organized? *meh* :) I do blog ahead but not by much. You are right about Jacob but it doesn't bother me in books as much as IRL b/c it is only a book. :D I've not been officially sorted but have a good guess what house I'm in. I actually have fun trying to figure out what houses the dogs would go... and I do think I have at least one Slytherin on my hands. LOL Don't care about the prequel and never read the Hunger Games. *shrug* One day... maybe. I do enjoy a long running series depending on my love for the characters but otherwise... yea shorter may be a way to go for several of those long running series. Hm... guess you aren't wrong about much. ;) LOL

    1. I guess I don't get what the house's mean??? I would have to look into it because now I'm intrigued by the dog angle lol
I've never seen THG movies which I'm sure is also unpopular.
And the thing that bugged me about Jacob is hope everyone went on (&still does) about how Edward acted and held Jacob as the healthy/sweet choice and I'm like nooooooo he's so controlling lol

  14. Both Edward and Jacob are both assholes for different reasons, the difference being that Jacob was nice to look at once he cut his hair. Still an asshole though. I must admit, I'm a little weary about The Hunger Games prequel too. Mockingjay was such a cop out and Gale really got the short end of the stick so I'm interested in discovering more from the Panam universe but I think she's left it too late. Why now? A quick money grab? Is it because she'll be releasing a new book and that'll be great for publicity? It's the book that so many of us will probably read but no one asked for.

  15. I am not an organized reader or blogger either! And I feel the same way about drafting and scheduling posts way ahead of time. I either feel disconnected, or I am so happy to have finished a blog post I want to post it right away. 😂
