My Monday Musings

One of my favorite discoveries about my new digs in Washington (& Oregon since I'm right near the state line) are all the small indie bookstores. It seems like everywhere we go, I stumble upon one.

***

Vault Books & Brew in Castle Rock, WA is located in a renovated bank. It’s small but they have a great selection of books, coffee & pastry, gifts and quite a few events.

But the coolest thing is how they converted the old bank vault into a secret hideaway for kids!

During a visit to Astoria, OR this weekend I found not one - but TWO small bookstores.

Godfather's Books & Espresso - they have a really interesting book selection and fun decor. The usual book genres as well as metaphysical/occult studies, women's studies, local guides and incense, tarot cards, board games and other eclectic gift ideas.

I was drawn like a magnet to Lucy's Books because - flowers! lol

It's an adorable little shop with a great book, magazine and gift selection.

There's another place in my town, called Paperbacks Galore, that I'm planning on getting to soon and of course, my pilgrimage to Powell's in Portland, OR.

Reading:

I just finished the audio of The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo and I'm blown away but how amazing and powerful that book was. I highly recommend the audio version, read by the author.

What are your favorite bookstores? What are you reading this week?

    1. It's so cute! There's a sign in front (that came out too blurry in my pic) basically calling it Narnia.

  6. Oh I'll have to see if my library has the audiobook.

Love these bookstores. My fave is my library's bookstore (local) as you never know what you will find and what bargain you will get. In the big city... The Tattered Bookcover (the first one... as they have several).

    1. Such a fun way to incorporate the history of the building!

The only other place I've seen so many indie bookstores is NYC.

  11. So jealous of all the indie book stores around you! Vault Books looks ah-mazing. We have a truly impressive used book store locally. It's called Chamblin's Bookmine and it is *enormous.* Something like 50,000 sq ft and over a million books (every genre - fic and non-fic - that you could possibly think of). So that's cool. But I wish we had more indie stores with new books.

    1. Is that in Orlando? I never found anything other than textbook stores and B&N

These have a mix of new and used and they will order anything you want.

  12. I would love to visit a bookstore that used to be a bank. That's so cool! I've been to a couple restaurants that used to be banks, but never a bookstore. That's awesome you have so many small, indie bookstores near you now!

    1. Yikes. A few of these were in tiny towns with very little parking but also very quiet towns so it was ok.

  14. Can I go to Vault Books & Brew? It looks so cool! Why aren't there book shops like that near me? What a totally original shop idea. I think it's great you're discovering these book shops and I am totally jealous.

I know we talked about this on Instagram, but yeah, the author narrating The Poet X was the best! 👍✨
