whatever wednesday: twenty one pilots trench trilogy videos

Twenty Two Pilots 5th studio album Trench came out last week and, no surprise, I LOVE it. It tackles depression, suicide, fame and I love how they balance the darkness with hope but the videos have been next level amazing.

The first three videos from Trench are an apocalyptic, YA-ish vibe trilogy. I love the music and the visuals. If you’ve been a long time fan there are a lot of Easter eggs but also makes sense if you aren’t.

Here they are in order…

Jumpsuit

Nico and the Niners

Levitate (my favorite)

And if you don’t feel like watching an apocalyptic music trilogy – check out their Fight Club inspired video for My Blood

  1. I haven't heard Twenty One Pilots in YEARS! They're not really played on the radio, even the harder rock stations. I've just watched the first clip and wow, it's incredibly cinematic and I can see the dystopian fantasy theme throughout. These are absolutely amazing Karen, thank you so very much for sharing! ♡♡♡

    1. I saw them years ago as an opening act and they were....awful lol

Then we saw them last year as a headliner in a small venue - just before they broke big and it's in my top 5 concerts ever.

    1. Really?? you need to listen to Blurry Face - and watch the videos too Lauren! And then this one. A lot of the story themes carry over to tell a story.

  4. I'm only familiar with the songs on the radio. However, as far as albums go, I really like it when the album as a whole tells a story. I feel like the ones that actually tackle real life issues (instead of going out clubbing or falling in/out of love) and the ones I always gravitate towards. There's a song that always gives me chills when I listen to it because in the one song, it tells a story between a father and son and yeah. It's just this bitter sweet song. It's called Fade In/Fade Out by Nothing More.

    1. If you like pop - check out Halsey's Fallen Kingdom then. It's a modern day/gender swapped Romeo and Juliet. The first three videos tell a story and the album does as well.

  6. I didn't know they had a new album out! My daughter loves them and I send her songs on days she is having hard times with depression. I will have to look this up!

    1. I think they tap into that feeling of depression so well but also offer hope.

    1. It seems like artists are really getting back to telling stories with their songs and videos and I love it!

  14. Hm, I think I'll have to check this one out. I've been unimpressed with a lot of the "hit" songs lately but this album just might have what I'm looking for.

    1. The album was #1 so may be considered *hot* but I think they're quirky enough to sound completely original and outside the main stream as well.

      Hope you like them Adria.

You should try their last album Blurry Face too.

  16. I like 21 pilots. I've slowly been falling in love with more and more of their work since getting the google home last year. Whenever you tell it to play music they're on rotation. :)

    1. Yup. The songs are pretty dark once you listen to the lyrics.
