the friday 5

Life

Still hot.

Still humid.

Still whining about it.

Reading

I’m beta reading so I haven’t had time to read anything for fun but I did finish Free Fall by Emma Barry & Genevieve Turner last week and will have a review up later this month. (a few nitpicks but still enjoyed overall)

Watching

Santa Clarita Diet S2 – Netflix

This  show is a fun take on zombies, realtionships and mid-life crisis. It’s over the top and a hoot.
*warning: it’s pretty graphic as far as blood and guts so not for the squemish

Listening to

LSD (Labrinth, Sia, Diplo) – Genius

* And I’m going to see Janelle Monae this weekend!!!!!

I loved host Lillian Cunningham’s first podcast – Presidential and she’s back with Constitutional:

"With the writing of the Constitution in 1787, the framers set out a young nation’s highest ideals. And ever since, we’ve been fighting over it — what is in it and what was left out. At the heart of these arguments is the story of America.

As a follow-up to the popular Washington Post podcast “Presidential,” reporter Lillian Cunningham returns with this series exploring the Constitution and the people who framed and reframed it — revolutionaries, abolitionists, suffragists, teetotalers, protesters, justices, presidents – in the ongoing struggle to form a more perfect union across a vast and diverse land.”

  1. You're beta-reading again! Not so long since I last did, and I already miss it LOL. I mean, it's work in a way, but SO rewarding.

    1. Yes! It's time consuming - I don't do beta reading fast lol - but fun.

  2. It's so humid here, it is making me remember what a woman in North Carolina told me. She said, "We don't breathe the air here, we wear it." Yeah, it's like that here right now. I had no idea I moved to a rain forest, but those are the current conditions in Jersey.

    1. Her concert was a blast!!! Not many special effects but she's an incredible entertainer - costume changes, a fun set, dancers. It was awesome!

  8. It actually has gotten nicer here, less hot and humid. I hope yours goes away a bit... although I know summer in Florida, it's probably not going to for a while. :(

I'll bet that podcast is super interesting! I haven't seen Santa Clarita Diet but I've heard it's a trip!

  10. I've been complaining about the heat as well! Even the pools are too hot. The last time we went the water was 85 degrees. It felt like a warm bath on a hot day surrounded by other people--yuck. I keep thinking it will rain or a cold front will come through, but no... it's really not helping our garden.

Santa Clarita is a show I've been thinking about starting! <3

    1. We've had lots of rain this summer which in some ways just makes it steamier after because it's still hot. We have a pool but haven't been able to go in because we're having maintenance done in the enclosure.

Can you handle gore?? It's (SCD) pretty bloody and yucky but I love it!

  13. I feel you on the humidity. And the daily dose of thunder showers just makes it worse. Ugh.
Free Fall sounds interesting. Unique time period that I don’t see covered a lot, and I’ve never read a book that featured an astronaut.
Cupcakes based on books... love it! :)

  14. I have also been dreading the humidity. I used to beta read but quit after a while because I wanted to get back to reading books I was excited for.
