New Year, New Me!

20171223_144202Ok…not really, but I did decide to organize my desk. And this happened in December so yeah, not a new year thing…lol

So anyway…while Christmas shopping I found these plate holders for $1 at Crate & Barrel. They were closing that store and selling everything, including the displays.

I bought 4 and here’s what I did what them. Maybe it will inspire you to use weird things to get organized!

#1

I organized my tapes and scissors. Used empty jars to corral rubber bands, paper clips, and small props I use for Instagram pics. I put it on top of an white wood box that was lying around full of junk and voila! I think it looks really pretty. And it completely uncluttered my desk.

My larger rolls of tape and my smaller notepads. Don't ask why I have so much duct tape. I don't know, but it's cute.

Used the third rack to store my electronic devices – phones, e-readers, tablet. You can’t really see, but I use cute binder clips behind the rack to thread charger wires through and keep them in place/ accessable. It makes a great charging station. I was already doing this with a metal plate rack but the white one matches the desk and looks better.

I needed a place to store my necklaces and bracelets that put them in my vision so I actually wear them and prevent them from being a knotted mess.

I used removable picture hanging strips to adhere it to the wall.

That’s all the plate racks. I also bought Poppin Sofite Grip Grass & tray from Staples to organize my pens and post-it tab collection and added a quote decal that I got for review via the Amazon Vine program.

Exciting right? Just me? lol I know, but I wanted to share anyway because I’m happy typing away at my organized desk now. I actually enjoy being stuck here now. 😜

I should have done a before and after but I’m sure he can all imagine a desk with scattered papers, pens, tape and general crap. Now to see if I can keep it this way!

    Haha, you read my mind.

So, that's really pretty and creative! I hope Figment won't mess with it LOL.

    1. He doesn't sprawl on my desk too much anymore. He sleeps on my chair now and leaves me a little sliver of space to sit. lol

I do use the duct tape when I ship out things but no idea how it all started lol

  2. Okay I am so jealous of your workspace. Mine is in the laundry room and yeah, not so welcoming. Also noisy. So I don't really work there. I've tried to pretty it up, but still not working for me. I need to sort out my stuff - I'm using an old three drawer thing on wheels and it's just a bit of a mess.

  3. Ooo I love your workspace, my ish is an absolute mess. I bought my first craft supplies container from Michael's so it's a step in the right direction.

Also. Where do you get your washi tape?

    1. You have to start somewhere!

The fox tape was a gift - the rest was on clearance ($4 for the set of 6) at Michael's.

    1. If you mean the "fuck off I'm reading..." that's a bookmark a friend made me for Christmas a few years back. I <3 it!

  5. You really put those plate holders to creative uses! My goal this year is to minimize even more. I am so sick of moving junk around to clean or to find something ;)

    1. Yessssss! Me too. I've been de-cluttering for a few years now. I've been taking it one space/room at a time or else it's too overwhelming.

  6. Oh my goodness. I would have never thought to use those like that. Wanna come over and help organize my desk? It's a complete shit show. :cringes: What's sad is that it is huge and has a hutch with little cubbies and such, and I still have stuff everywhere. >.< I'm not an organizer. I'm more of a sweep/push it in an area where people can't see it and call it a day.

    1. I'm the same. To clear off the desk meant piling everything on the printer lol I really should have done a before pic.

I have a spare room that I don't even go in anymore because the clutter freaks me out! hehe

I had seen the plate rack idea in a magazine.

  7. I love what you did with those plate holders!! And it speaks to my organized heart. At least in my dreams, everything has a place and purpose :) ha! I love that store... I don't know if we have any by me, but will have to check. Thanks for sharing (love that you repurposed for hanging jewelry!).

    1. I'm working towards that. One small space at a time.

I should have bought more but I thought they were just changing seasonal displays - not closing the store. We still have one in Tampa (this was in Orlando)

  11. That is very clever. I love what you did with those plate racks. I've been systematically going through all my things and pitching, giving away, and putting in containers and bins, too. I love a clear flat surface to encourage creativity and production. Love what you did, Karen!

  12. Oh wow, I need to organize all my stuff. Will start as soon as I'm done with the baby shower I'm doing in less than 2 weeks now. It has consumed my life! Looks great Karen! :)

  15. That's a great use of them. I love using things for unconventional stuff, too. I use a plate rack like those for my cutting boards and similar under my sink. Keeps things nice and tidy :)
