monday mini’s...

Just a couple today - I didn't have a chance to read much this past week and I hope to have a full review up for Alex & Eliza by Melissa de la Cruz on Wednesday.

AND I only ONE more book left from my April TBR pile to read so that's exciting! It's the little things in a blogger's life that makes us happy. lol

Black Widow: Red Vengeance (Black Widow #2) by Margaret Stohl

The Avengers’ iconic master spy is back, and she’s seeing red.
Emotions are dangerous, which is why the graduates of Moscow’s famed spy school the Red Room are taught to keep their enemies close and their loved ones at a distance. Black Widow and Red Widow, also known as Natasha Romanov and Ava Orlova, forgot that lesson once, and they won’t forget it again. ~

My thoughts: I hadn’t realized that this was the second book in a series. I figured it would be ok and easy to catch up to speed anyway but I was wrong. It’s clear some big stuff went down in book #1 Forever Red, and as someone unfamiliar with BW and S.H.I.E.L.D, I wasn’t able to fill in the missing pieces so I DNF’d this one. I do hope to pick up the first book at some point and come back to it. It in no way reflects the quaility of writing in this case.

30814007 Danced Close (Portland Heat #6) by Annabeth Albert ~ Goodreads

Source: Purchased

My thoughts: I love, love, love Albert’s M/M romances and Danced Close was no exception. Todd is a recovering addict, living with his mother trying to believe that he’s worth this second chance at life. While Kendall is a wedding planner, identifies as a Genderqueer man with a femme style that often leaves him facing ridicule and preconcieved notions when it comes to boyfriends.  It’s a really quiet kind of story. No big drama or angst – just two men learning that they are deserving of love and taking that leap to believe in each other. They were both so sweet and thoughtful to each other that I felt all warm and squishy inside reading this one.

    1. Thanks. I love Mini doing mini reviews when I'm burned out and making a day for it helps keep me on track :-)

  3. Hate when I pick up book two and you can't really understand it all. Some series really do need to be read in order, a lot of others though are fine haha

    1. I'm usually pretty good catching up to speed, even in a series, but this one really requires the background info.

  4. I've been wanting to read the Black Widow books so it is good to know to not skip around. Danced close sounds so good. I haven't read a squishy romance in a while. :)

    1. You might be able to if you know the background. I only know BW from the Avengers movies and not much more about S.H.E.I.L.D

  5. Ooh Black Widow- I kinda wanted to read that one but never did. The first one I mean. Now that the sequel is out I should get on that I guess...

    1. I'm kind of new to the whole comic book thing so I tend to be completely lost and NEED to start from the top. I heard the first one was very good though.

  6. I like how you said Danced Close is a quiet story - so true! But a great one. :)

    1. It was SO good. More than I expected too. Neither character stood out to me int he previous books.

  7. That's always frustrating when you get one later on in a series and it just doesn't work on it's own.

    1. *sad face*

I'm pretty good at filling in what's missing but it just couldn't be done here.

  8. Damn. I can't tell you how often I've picked up book two or even three in a series and started to read only to realise it's part of a series. That's when it's handy for publishers to display the book number on the cover or spine. Hopefully you'll be able to return to the series Karen, I'd love to see what you think <3
