review: the trouble with mistletoe (heartbreaker bay #2) by jill shalvis

28446375If she has her way ...
Willa Davis is wrangling puppies when Keane Winters stalks into her pet shop with frustration in his chocolate-brown eyes and a pink bedazzled cat carrier in his hand. He needs a kitty sitter, stat. But the last thing Willa needs is to rescue a guy who doesn’t even remember her ...

He’ll get nothing but coal in his stocking.
Saddled with his great-aunt’s Feline from Hell, Keane is desperate to leave her in someone else’s capable hands. But in spite of the fact that he’s sure he’s never seen the drop-dead-gorgeous pet shop owner before, she seems to be mad at him ...

Unless he tempers “naughty” with a special kind of nice ...
Willa can’t deny that Keane’s changed since high school: he’s less arrogant, for one thing—but can she trust him not to break her heart again? It’s time to throw a coin in the fountain, make a Christmas wish—and let the mistletoe do its work . ~

Review:

It took me a little bit to get into this story. Willa Davis is holding a big old grudge against Keane, who stood her up to the Sadie Hawkins dance back in HS. He shows up at her pet shop – all man now - needing emergency pet sitting services for his aunt’s cat, but has no memory of Willa or what he did to her.

I can see why Willa would be angry at, and cautious with, Keane but oh man she’s hanging on to something that happened to teenagers like it happened yesterday! Then she’s all over him for not wanting true love or a relationship. Despite him otherwise being a very kind, generous, caring man. I just found it irritating.

Once they got over all that stuff though (pretty early on) it was smoother sailing and an excellent holiday romance. Both have past issues to work through but are pretty straight forward about it and have great chemistry – both sexually and as friends.

I liked Willa and Keane but I may be partial to Petunia the cat – also known as PITA (pain in the ass). I love a trouble making kitty cat that still manages to worm her way into her knew owner’s heart.

  2. Yeah, I don't get why characters in books hold on to petty little things from a long time ago. I understand being mad or upset, but people change! Glad they got over all that fairly quick.

    1. Thankfully that whole thing got out of the way fairly quickly. She was more annoyed with this guy than an controlling/abusive recent ex it seemed.

  3. I can totally see that cat stealing the show. I know it would be for me. However, I would pass on this one for now because it is just too early for Christmas stories. Totally looking forward to it later, however. :D
