Leave a Mark Auctions

I wanted to take a moment to let you all know about a wonderful charity project called Leave a Mark Auctions hosted by fellow blogger – Lauren from Shooting Stars Mag & Let’s Get Beyond Tolerance.

leave-a-mark

Here’s a little bit about the auctions:

The items we auction are marked up books by authors and other famous names. The authors mark up one of their own titles, and the other famous folks mark up a favorite book.

What does “marking up” mean? It’s like an annotated version of the book for an author – write little notes and facts throughout the book that the future winner/reader might be interested in knowing! If the book is not your own, you simply post your thoughts about parts of the book – highlight favorite quotes, etc.

I think with the idea of marking up a book in mind, it’s easy to see why the auctions are called Leave a Mark. It also works because the money raised by these auctions are going to help a charity and that will leave a mark on whoever the charity helps.

A new charity will be chosen every few months.

Lauren had co-hosted this before in 2008-2009 – raising $1587.50 for the charity First Book - and getting about 700 books to children in need! I had bid/won 3 books so I thought I would share what you can get from these auctions. Obviously it varies from author to author but it’s pretty cool!

Wicked Game by Jeri Smith-Ready and Willow by Julia Hoban were two of my favorite books so those are very special to me. Vintage Veronica was a book that had low bidding so I grabbed it!

I suggest you don't pass up books that aren't necessarily your favorite but are still within your bidding range because, even though I knew nothing about Vintage Veronica, it was SO much fun to get a behind the scenes peak at the story process anyway. Plus the author added adorable art and recipes. too cute! Some of the notes are about how they chose characters names, inspirations for certain scenes etc.

Current auction:

All the Feels by Danika Stone

College freshman Liv is more than just a fangirl: The Starveil movies are her life… So, when her favorite character, Captain Matt Spartan, is killed off at the end of the last movie, Liv Just. Can’t. Deal.
Tired of sitting in her room sobbing, Liv decides to launch an online campaign to bring her beloved hero back to life. With the help of her best friend, Xander, actor and steampunk cosplayer extraordinaire, she creates #SpartanSurvived, a campaign to ignite the fandom. But as her online life succeeds beyond her wildest dreams, Liv is forced to balance that with the pressures of school, her mother’s disapproval, and her (mostly nonexistent and entirely traumatic) romantic life. A trip to DragonCon with Xander might be exactly what she needs to figure out what she really wants.

Current high bid - $11
Bidding ends for this auction on September 21st at 9pm EST

  1. I used to be all over this kind of auction. One time, I managed to win myself a tiny part in Mike Mullin's Ashen Winter series. Lol.

  2. Aw, thanks so much for sharing Karen! I'm so happy to see what you had won in the past auctions - I LOVE Wicked Game and Willow as well, so those are definitely ones I'd be treasuring too. :) And I like that you said to take a shot on books that you don't necessarily know if the bidding isn't too high. It's definitely a good way to meet new authors and find new books but in a really fun way!

  4. Apologies, full of typos. I suppose that's only to be expected when I haven't got my glasses on.

Wonderful idea for such a worthwhile cause. Well done Lauren.
