Garden ramblings…

I spent the past few days weeding my front yard. A whole pick up truck bed full of weeds. I just about collapsed from exhaustion and haven’t read blogged, commented or anything in days – so sorry about that. Florida apparently skipped spring and just jumped to summer. It’s been in the 90’s everyday.

There aren’t many new blooms this week. I did buy some coleus to fill in some bare spots and herbs – both for myself (thyme, basil, cilantro) and my butterflies (parsley, dill – they are good host plants for laying eggs & the larva stage).

Going off topic – but after roasting in the yard we were STARVING! We had heard about a food truck called Yum Yum, that all the farm hands and horse people in the area (I live in horse country) kept raving about.

This place is SO good! Really fresh food, made to order. I had a blackened Salmon sandwich but they have rice bowls and a few veggie options YUM YUM indeed.

But!!!!! Look at dessert!

They sell something called stuffed cupcakes. This was a strawberry stuffed cupcake with strawberries (obviously), raspberry puree and fresh whipped cream. OMG…to die for!

And just when I thought this place couldn’t get anymore awesome – we had company…He hung out with us and shared a little bit of our meal.

This is also peak farmers market season here. This was dinner last night – fresh made whole wheat pasta with snap peas, squash, tomatoes and whole wheat french bread. All from the market.

Hopefully, I’ll be able to catch up some reading and review writing the next few days. I’m falling waaaay behind…..EEP!

  2. That dessert looks AMAZING!! It was really warm here yesterday, though I don't mind normal-level heat -- Florida level heat and humidity is a whole other thing. But then of course the air conditioning pump broke and I was a bit cranky. Fixed now :)

  8. OMG that all looks so yummy! And relatively healthy! We did skip spring, didn't we? You're having the same weather as we are in South Carolina. Crazy but I'd so much rather be warm than cold so I'm not complaining.

  10. Apart from the odd day or two we are still waiting for Spring here in my part of the world. In fact for the last few years it seems we have only had two seasons - summer or what passes for summer and winter.

  11. Farmer's market is not here yet. We had snow yesterday. LOL Oh and anise plant is also great for butterflies. I had a few and the swallowtails LOVED it. Hm... haven't had any for a while, I should get more this year. Oh thanks! :)

We have a few plants out... hope they survived. Brought in the more fragile ones.

  12. ooo, that food looks amazing, Karen! Hope you enjoyed your gardening day! it's heating up here as well, and I can only do something in the morning and early evening, otherwise it's way too hot to be out.

  13. Maintaining a garden can really take up so much time, so it's nice you got to relax with some good food and a cute cat!

  16. Ohhh...YUM. I am absolutely drooling here. Honestly...that dessert. x) I'm not really a gardening kind of person myself. I mean, I LIKE looking at them. I don't mind watching other people working in them. But me? I just read. >.<

  17. I kind of wish it were that hot (90 degrees) where I'm at in Idaho, but then I realize I have a garden plot full of weeds to yank and decide it's for the best that I just have normal weather (topping out at 70 degrees). Anyhow, you're lucky to have a food truck with yummy food and hot weather! Also, thanks for commenting on my blog!
