Sunday ramblings…

SundayPost

I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves – hosted by Tynga’s Reviews & the Sunday Post – hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer, to dish about all the blogger happenings for this week.

***

Another week of frustrated reading. I just can’t seem to find my groove. I’m not in a bad book slump exactly – I just want to do other things besides reading.

Here are two books that I did read this week and loved:

21795649 19080006

Tanya by Rebecca Rogers Maher – Gorgeous! Releases April 30th.

Play (Stage Dive #2) by Kylie Scott – I picked this one up because of Bookswarm’s Speed Date review. It did not disappoint. Sexy and funny!

Added to the looming pile:

20140411_113641Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor – I was looking forward to this one but I’m hearing not so great things. At 600+ pages I’m not even going near it until I’m in a better reading mood.
20140410_133511
The School for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani – I received this book (unsolicited from Harper). I don’t usually read mid-grade but the cover is beautiful and it sounds fantastic. I have to get my hands on book one though.

Too many Kindle deal books….

Slow Burn by Sam B. Morgan, Play by Kylie Scott, Special Interests by Emma Barry, Island Fever by Shellie Stevens, Bloodbath by Mark Henry, Take Me Now by Faith Sullivan, The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson, Elviness by T.K. , Drive Me Crazy by Marquita Valentine, Parallel Attraction by Diedra Knight, A Matchless Romance by Chriti Barth, Just this Once by Rosalind James.

This week on the blog:

Review: Her Best Laid Plans by Cara McKenna.
Tune in TuesdayReview: Meatless All Day - Recipes for Inspired Vegetarian Meals by Dina Cheny
Review: Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
Garden ramblings

A couple of new (to me) blogs that I’ve discovered and love:

The Bookish Manicurist – she pairs book reviews with matching manicures that are amazing!
Notebook Sisters – this blog has a really fun vibe

Odd housekeeping tip:

I have a glass enclosure for my shower and it’s developed a layer of soap scum. Gross I know…I’ve tried every product I can think of to get it off to no avail. After a last ditch Google search, someone said to try a wet fabric softener sheet. I gave it a shot and poof! soap scum vanished! The fabric softener leaves a film so I followed that up with regular window/glass cleaner. Good as new.

That about covers everything! Leave a link to you r posts and I'll be sure to stop by.

  1. I love The Bookish Manicurist. I wish i could simply PAINT my nails one color as well as her, but it's fun to see what she does even if i couldn't manage it. haha Sorry you aren't in the reading mood! Sometimes you just have to take a break. :)

  2. Oh no, I haven't really heard anything about DOGAM yet, so it's sad to hear you've seen negative reviews. It's a freaking BRICK though, and I haven't read book 2 yet so I won't get to it for a while obviously. Anyway, I hope that when you do pick it up, you enjoy it!

    1. It is HUGE. I might like it more going into it with lowered expectations. It's weird - but sometimes that helps.

  3. Darn, I wanted the 3rd Taylor book to be great! Ah well, guess I'll have to see what others say. I know what you mean about wanting to do other stuff besides reading. I got a lot of reading done during jury duty so that was good. It's been really hard for me to find some good Horror and I'm missing my King Arthur re-tellings. I just downloaded a few books about that so I'll see how those go.

    1. It might be. It's just that quite a few reviewers with similar tastes as me didn't love it.

I hope you post pictures of your garden once you start planting.

  4. I'm reading really only at lunch and in the evening, working my butt off on the farm planting otherwise. Only just got to the balance in reading I'm very happy with. Left with only 2 ARCs and a vast amount of kindle goodies I've been waiting to start forever. :) Play is on my wishlist and so is Laini Taylor although I haven't read book #2 yet. Hope you find your reading groove back, Karen! Gonna check those two blogs now.

  8. My reading this week will be minimum, kids are all home this week. :( But we will have fun going to the park and other things too, so it will make up for it. Enjoy your week.

  13. Oh loved the shower Karen. I also like a product called Krud Cutter and it can be found at Lowe's. Book slumps are hard and maybe you should just stop and spend a few days doing other things..

    1. I'll have to look for that.

It's not a normal slump - as in bad books. I just don't feel like reading right now. I'm using the time to catch up movies and garden though.

  15. Dryer sheets? Reallly. Nice trick!! I'm wondering what else they're good for. They work great repelling dog hair on base boards. You just have to reapply/swipe every few weeks.

    Enjoy your new books.
