In My Mailbox

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren to spotlight what books we've received for the week.

No books this week :-(

BUT......

I got a Kindle Fire!!!

Sorry for the bad picture quality. I'll try to do a more in depth review of it once I've gotten to play with it a little longer.

I really love it so far. The picture quality is incredible! I'm uploading all my music onto the Kindle Cloud right now so I should be able to listen to that soon enough. It's very easy to download apps, order from Amazon, access your Kindle books.

A few things that I don't like so much.....

There is no way to organize your books into folders. For example: review/to-read/YA/read etc. A regular Kindle doesn't have this option either but I was hoping it would be remedied with the Fire. It seems like this would be an obvious and standard feature to me.

Note: I stand corrected here as to the regular Kindle. They do have a collections feature. The Fire doesn't though and I can't even fathom why not. Maybe it will be an update.

The other big thing for me is there are no compatible readers at the moment (such as Bluefire) so I can't read DRM protected Netgalley books on the FIre. This seems to be an Amazon issue as Bluefire has said that they did make an approved app but Amazon does not allow you to load it at this time.

So....a few minor peeves but at the price of $199 this is one amazing reader that allows you to read, watch movies, tweet, play games, email and more.

As I've said I'll do a more detailed review after I've used it for a month or so. I've had it a few days and I would definitely recommend it, especially if you don't want to pay for the pricier iPad.

What did you get in your mailbox?

  3. I'm going to give the Fire a little more time to settle in. I just got a Kindle (the one with the keyboard) a couple months ago and I am enjoying it so far. I might break down and upgrade if my family takes a trip to the states and I can get one in a store. We shall see. It is tempting.

  5. Karen, what do you mean you can't organize your books into folders on a regular Kindle? I do that by putting them into collections (and I exactly have these For Review, To Read, Read, Romance, UF, etc.), and you can even have 1 book be in several collections.

  6. @Stella - Which Kindle do you have? I have one of the very early versions so I couldn't on mine (just home or archive) and I haven't used it in ages so I don't know if maybe they updated that.
I can't do it on my Kindle App for iPad either.
A lot of people are complaining for the Fire so I hope it's just an oversight and they fix it soon.

  11. Yay for the fire! That's an awesome IMM, are you kidding?! I hope they figure out the app deal so customers can read NetGalley books! Maybe they'll fix it soon?

  15. I have the Kindle Keyboard (I guess that's what it's called now :P haha) and I've got the same Collection feature that Stella mentioned. I never actually noticed it before, so I wasn't sure if it came with the new update my Kindle had a little while ago, but it's pretty easy to use. Your older Kindle might have it too. :)

  16. I can organize my books in collections on the regular Kindle, but not sub-folders which would have been awesome. Not sure which you mean though, but if it's collections and it doesn't exist on Kindle Fire, that definitely sucks they took that away.

I really wanted a Kindle Fire, but as a Swede I sadly couldn't. Now though after hearing they don't take Bluefire, I'm kinda glad I couldn't since I definitely need that. o: I got myself a tablet instead and hope it'll arrive during the week! Can't wait. *squeal*

I'm glad you still like it though! :D It does look quite awesome if not for that!

  18. Very exciting! It looks really good! I love that it's in color, my e-reader is only black and white and doesn't have the cover images to click on. I love it, but if I could change one thing, that'd be it. I hope the DRM thing gets remedied soon!
