Blog Tour: I Loved you First by Reena Jacobs

Reena is a author and Twitter friend of mine (gotta love Twitter where you can become good friends with people you've never met!) She asked me to be part of her blog tour for her novella "I Loved You First"

Alexandria (Alex) Carmichael guards two secrets close to her heart. One—she’s in love with her best friend, Seth. Two—he’s gay.
As a freshman in college, Alex looks forward to fun times with her best friend. When Seth decides cycling through girlfriends is the way to fit in with the straight crowd, Alex must make a choice: watch Seth give his affections to another while her heart breaks or come clean with her feelings and risk losing his friendship forever.
I Loved You First is a new adult love story told through the eyes of an African-American/Caucasian student who takes a journey of self-discovery while watching her best friend come to terms with his sexuality. Turn the pages and find a message of hope, new beginnings, and positive change.

For my stop on the tour Reena is giving us a sneak peek at I Loved you First with this excerpt:

Universal Facial Expressions

With the football players gone, the only ones left were the cheerleaders practicing on the sidelines. Their pyramid was crap. I could have sworn those were old school, anyway. “I wonder if Cheyenne will be there.”
“Who cares?!” Seth stood and stomped down the bleachers.
I hopped after him and tugged his pants at the butt crack.
He twirled around and slapped my hand. “What are you doing?
We’d just learned about universal facial expressions in psychology last week. If he were on the test, I’d choose anger for the furrowed brows and surprise for the o-shaped mouth. I laughed through my explanation. “Your panties seemed bunched, and I thought I’d help.”
The surprise faded, leaving behind livid outrage. Without a word, he turned and walked away.
I chased after. “Wait. Where are you going?”
“Away from you.”
“I was just kidding.” I grabbed his sleeve, and he jerked out of my hold. “What’s wrong? Is it the Bruce thing?”
“Will you get over it, already?”
“I doubt Bruce is gay.”
He stopped and towered over me. Not just stood in front, but really loomed, crowding my space. He grabbed my arm, looking down his nose. “Don’t you think I know that?”
His voice was a hushed whisper between his teeth. I’d never felt so intimidated in my life.
Seth released me and took a deep breath. “I need some time to myself. I’ll stop by your room in a couple of hours, and we’ll head to the frat house.”
“Don’t you think we should talk about it?”
“Don’t you get it? I don’t want to talk.” He ran his fingers through his golden hair. “Look. Just because you can’t stop rambling doesn’t mean I have to listen. I’ll catch you later.”
His long stride took him down the length of the field at an accelerated pace. No way could I keep up without jogging beside him like an idiot. So, I stood helpless as he left me behind. In no time at all, he disappeared around a corner.
I turned back to the cheerleaders practicing. Cheyenne watched me as the other girls cheered around her. I couldn’t see the details of Cheyenne’s face at my distance, but I imagined if I could, her expression would be joy.

About the author: Reena Jacobs is just your typical writer who loves to see her words in print. As an avid reader, she’s known to hoard books and begs her husband regularly for “just one more purchase.” Her home life is filled with days chasing her preschooler and nights harassing her husband. Between it all, she squeezes in time for writing and growling at the dog. You can find Reena on Ramblings of an Amateur Writer, Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes & Nobles, and Smashwords.
