It's A Wrap(up): Life, reading, watching...

LIFE

Hello everyone! It's still raining here. We're getting close to  1 1/2 - 2 inches a week. I know some of this is good going into fire season but good lord I'm done. DONE!

My weather guy keeps getting yelled at for the rain (humorously) and he tweeted this out, which made me laugh.

I still have my shoulder pain. It's been just over a month. It's not horrible, at least, and I was finally able to get hold of a live person and make a physical therapy appointment for next week. I am so looking forward to it. I'm kind of afraid to move too much  a) the area gets inflamed the pain has moved up my neck b) I'm afraid I'll do more damage and want to learn how to move my arm safely while it heals.

Kevin's boss just tested positive for COVID so we're on watch for that now. I'm vaccinated and boosted and I know the vast majority of cases are mild but I have a few pre-existing issues and also know a few people who died or have long COVID (who were healthy previously) from it so it's still nerve-wracking to me. You just don't know until it happens which one you are.

WATCHING

We finished watching Moon Knight on Disney+. It was a strange show but we really liked it. It was a little different with Egyptian mythology and mental health issues.

I think I forgot mention that we watched Our Flag Means Death on HBO Max - starring & produced by Taika Waititi - a few months ago. It's such a fun, weird little pirate show. Part swashbuckler, part (queer) romcom and soooo good.

On Amazon Prime we're watching Outer Range starring Josh Brolin and I really can't tell you if I like it or not lol Kind of an alien/sci-fi, western, thriller vibe. Lots of secrets with weird twists.

Val - a documentary about Val Kilmer using Kilmer's own footage he's accumulated throughout his life and career. Kilmer lost his voice to throat cancer and it's an interesting look at how he navigates nostalgic fame (we want our stars to stay beautiful) and chronic pain through determination, humor and art. This is told through Kilmer's lens, so a little biased but still raw and poignant.

And I save the best for last... Heartstopper - Netflix CUTEST. SHOW. EVER. They broached difficult topics (bullying, coming out for example) but in such a sweet, heartwarming way. The acting is A+, the pacing superb and I was sooo sad that it ended. There better be a season 2! It's been several years since I read the first graphic novel but it seemed to follow it pretty closely and definitely captured the essence of Charlie, Nick and the story.

The looks, the small touches, the friends...perfection. I wish all all romances, YA and adaptations were this good. The world sucks and this made me happy.

READING

I don't know if I'll ever be able to read at my former pace but I'm reading so I guess that's good enough.

Kindle - Death by Dumpling (A Noodle Shop Mystery #1) by Vivien Chien ~ goodreads Cute cozy mystery so far.

Hardcover - August of the Zombies (Zombie Problems #3) by K.G. Campbell ~ goodreads I'm just over 1/2 way and finally getting long awaited answers from the series. Fun so far.

Audiobook - Book Lovers by Emily Henry ~ goodreads I was super excited to see this on the Libro.fm ALC (audio arc) list for May. I'll be starting it the next time I run errands.

What have you all been reading, watching, doing?

  1. I thought Moon Knight was weird. And Outer Range- oh my gosh- that is TOO! I'm probably going to watch the last two episodes tonight lol. I love the vibe though. I just started The Wilds season two as well.

I haven't seen Heartstopper yet but I see it's based on a graphic novel by Alice Oseman, and I REALLY liked her book Radio silence.

Waiting to see if you get Covid IS nerve wracking. Hope you guys stay clear of that. And have a nice weekend :)

    1. Radio Silence was her??!! That's been on my to read list forever but I didn't realize.

I don't think Heartstopper is your thing. It's strictly a romance but it's very good.

We sort of bailed on S1 of The Wilds but I'm finishing up Outer Range tonight. SO trippy.

    2. Did you finish Outer Range??!! What did you think? I didn't like it, overall, but I loved Brolin & Taylor. Then that ending?? Loved! But it changed how I viewed everything I saw before it so now I'm not sure I didn't like it?? Knowing what I know now. Lol

    3. I did finish it! I wasn't a fan either :) Too weird. But I love the whole weird west vibe. I have to admit I cheered when singing boy got shot . I like eeriness but the singing (even if the songs were relevant) and just some of the out- there- ness irritated me. But wait... is whats her name really $%^& ?????

I loved her seeing the bison. Was waiting for that mastodon to show up...

    4. All the family drama (the brothers (both sets), the love interests, who cares? lol) distracted from the better story but YES she is HER so it kind of clouds every weird interaction they all had. It was all annoying at the time because her actions/reactions made NO sense but I think going back to watch I'd be like...OHHHHH. But I didn't like it enough to do that lol

    5. Same here. It's one of those shows that if you rewatched things would make sense. and I read somewheres that the songs have relevance. Pft I don't have the patience to suss it all out, if I liked the show maybe I'd be more into the lore!

    6. And now I read an interview with the actress who plays Autumn and it got more confusing lol I thought maybe she *knew* but she doesn't and she has bi polar and thinks she's a spiritual leader and WHAAAA? I'm out lol I did listen to the lyrics and caught that a lot of the lines seemed relevant but again don't care ha!

    7. Same. It's like The Dark- another time travel on Netflix- super convoluted but at least I cared about the backstory. Here I didn't. I loved the idea of a time travel pool and wanted to see more of that- like when Brolin went into the future at that base? but they didn't go anywhere with that. Or the sheriff going back and seeing bison.

Autumn was just way too confusing and not enough resolution.

  2. I'm sorry about your shoulder pain. I've been dealing with some really bad arm pain and neck pain for the last month so I feel you. :( I'm also sorry about the COVID scare. I hope Kevin doesn't have it and that you two are safe. I'm also still worried about getting it even though most cases are mild. I just know if I were to get it, I'd be one of the long-haul cases or non-mild cases because of my pre-existing conditions.

    1. The shoulder pain is not great but not horrible either. I'm just afraid to move too much and make it worse. But it's starting to go up to my neck and that hurts more.

So far so good with the COVID situation. Yeah 90% of the people I know who got it - it was no big deal but then there were a few that died and my 14 year old niece has heart problems now and her dad (both very healthy before) has long COVID.

  3. Sending anti-Covid energies. Seeing that I picked Omicron up at the cardiologist, I'm afraid to go and get my booster now. Heh. Because Sebastian works retail and hardly any customers mask anymore, we have both been using N95s when we leave our rooms, even if the other one is still in their room. πŸ˜›

    1. Were they wearing masks at your Dr.? I ask because even medical places are dropping the mandate O_O Here they've kept it at all my offices. We'll see at the physical therapy place this week.

My MIL is very high risk so I get all the precautions you have to take, Her husband works at Home Depot and no one there wears masks either.

    2. One, I didn't have a KN95 mask at that time (getting the virus made me buy some) I was just double masking the surgical type. A couple of people in the waiting room had their masks below their nose, but I think it was the nurse. She was sitting at the computer in the exam room about only four feet away and kept pulling her mask away from her face, not down, but straight out from her face every time she asked me a question. Then she came over to take my temp and I had to pull my mask down for the thermometer. πŸ™„ Why they didn't have a scanning thermometer, I don't know. 😐 Sebastian did not get it from me, so masking definitely works.

    3. I hate this new commenting system.

I think medical people not masking or masking wrong is it's own special kind of annoying. You are around the most vulnerable people.

My friends husband got it but she did not. But Kevin's boss had it and then her husband got it even though they isolated so who knows. It seems like we're all just winging it.

Kevin did not get it but 2 other coworkers did. He was lucky that he could work from home and stayed out 7 days/tested twice.

  4. From what the contact tracers told me, it's a pretty short wait to find out if you caught covid after an exposure. Hopefully, you have good news for us. Good luck with your PT appointment. Hope they can make you more comfortable. I was in Chicago last week where it rained a lot, and it's been raining here in NJ for two days. I think it's following me. To drier times!

    1. I've heard 2-3 days for this variant so I figure we're in the clear after this weekend. he'll test Sunday before going back to work.

I'm trying to just roll with the rain but it's breaking me lol

  7. I want to watch Moon Knight now that it's all out, but the girl still isn't on board. We've started Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol. So far the show is pretty good (three eps in), I don't recall the book much at all, but I know I had issues with it. My girl was also watching The Wilds and I ended up watching several episodes with her. We also have been watching lots of lacrosse and went to see the new Dr. Strange movie.

My friend and I started a buddy watch off The Wilds but didn't like it.
And I want to see Dr Strange but because of Wanda πŸ˜€

  10. My boss went on vacation and came back with Covid. Which meant I was exposed. Ugh. I tested after 5 days (per CDC) and was negative, thank goodness. But I was paranoid all 5 days. I know that being vaxxed and boosted means that I would probably be okay, but the thought of long Covid terrifies me. I have a coworker who just returned after being out for 4 months with Covid and still has serious issues. It's that possibility that keeps me being uber-cautious.

I keep hearing raves for Heartstopper but I don't have Netflix. I'm not a TV watcher so I don't have any of the streaming services. If I did, I'd surely watch it, though. :)

    1. Kevin has tested negative but is working form home 2 more days just to be safe. 2 other workers have tested positive. His boss wasn't feeling too bad but her symptoms have gotten worse. My niece has long covid and heart irregularities since she' had it. She was a very healthy, athletic kid. Her dad, also super healthy, had long covid but my SIL and her other 2 kids had it and it was nothing.

      Heartstopper...*happy sigh*

  11. You're obviously getting all the rain we didn't have here. I'm pretty sure it was an unusually dry April for us here in the UK. I'm glad you have your physio appointment and can definitely understand being hesitant to cause any damage or inflammation in the mean time. I had covid but was exactly the same worrying about getting it. I'm healthy but I think it's impossible to know what impact it will have as every case is different and they don't know what causes long covid. Hopefully it ends up just being a close call.

I started Heartstopper at the weekend and OMG, so good! I adored it and just want the show on repeat, it was too cute! I think I'll have to do a reread of the graphic novel now.

    1. We usually have rainy winters but it was drier than usual until March, now we're having record rainfalls and below normal temps.

Yes, covid is just so individual and you don't know where you'll fall within the severity range until it happens. More people have tested positive but my husband has tested negative and is staying home another few days just to be safe.

Heartstopper!!!! Isn't it just the cutest show??? I'm so glad you loved it too. I had only read the first gn but I ordered the first volume because I need more lol

  12. Heartstopper is so cute - but I need to read Volumes 3 and 4 still. I haven't watched the show, but I hear it's done amazingly well and that makes me happy.

Hope your PT went or goes well.

  13. Ohhh I need to watch Outer Range too! It's next up, after I finish The Wilds, catch up on Fear, and finish my The 100 rewatch hah. So.. one day! Hope you enjoy Book Lovers, that one looks interesting to me too! Sorry about your shoulder, I hope the PT helps you get some relief! And fingers crossed you don't get sick- I just got back to work after COVID (again) and now my dad has it. It's ugh.
