For What It's Worth

Hello!

Hey there! I had an unplanned break from blogging last week. I mostly caught up on commenting today and I'm going to try to get a few reviews written this week - especially Gone Dark since that was an arc.

And I just realized I have to change up my Easter header. My favorite blogging avoiding task lol

Life....

Our cute little lego bunny for Easter

Kevin had planned on taking last Monday off for my birthday but he had been working such long hours (not getting home until after midnight and having to go back in by 6 am) that they pretty much ordered him to take a paid week off - that wouldn't count against his vacation time. Great news! But it rained all week and I had two appointments so we couldn't do as much as we would during a normal vacation.

I spent my birthday at the Dr's Monday morning for my hurt shoulder. They believe I just pulled a muscle working out. I had x-rays done and I have mild arthritis and a few bones spurs - narrowing of joints so it all make sense (and makes me feel old 😭) . I have total range of motion and it only hurts when I make one specific movement (arm reaching across my chest but it's excruciating) so they recommended physical therapy to safely build back to normal without getting a tear. I haven't heard back from the physical therapist yet despite leaving messages on the phone and through e-mails. That's the way things seem to be going these days though so hopefully I get in sometime soon.

Birthday take #2! Kevin usually takes me plant shopping for my birthday so we went to Cornell Farms Nursery & Cafe in Portland. There are so many gorgeous nurseries out here and I hadn't been to this one yet. It was as beautiful and overwhelming as expected. They had a few hard to find plants that I had been looking for and we had brunch at their cafe. You can eat inside in their converted farmhouse but I felt safer on the outside patio. It was prettier anyway - surrounded by planters and a chicken coop.

Then it rained and rained and rained all week but it wasn't 13 inches of snow (see my last post) so I just shut up and tried to deal with it lol

We went to the movies for the first time since before the pandemic and it was a little weird. We went to the matinee and to older/less popular movies, at my local theater, which is smaller but less busy. At both movies it was just Kevin and I and 2 workers - 1 at the popcorn counter and one scanning the tickets.

We saw Everything Everywhere All at Once starring Michelle Yeoh and it was weird and wonderful - action packed but emotional. Did I mention weird?? Very weird lol We really liked it! 👍👍

Then we saw The Lost City with Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum. It was a really cute movie. Exactly like a rom-com book in movie form. It hit all the notes. But I will say - I was a tad underwhelmed. This will be an unpopular opinion - but I didn't think they had a ton of chemistry and I already saw the funniest stuff in the previews. Brad Pit was unexpectedly hilarious though. 👍

I didn't read or watch much tv so that's about all and you're now caught up on my exciting life! lol

  1. Love the sound of the greenhouse, and especially the attached cafe. It's all about the food! I haven't heard of either of those movies but I love it when the theater is deserted lol. Especially nowaday!

It's been cold and damp here too- I'm ready for springtime!

    1. Every nursery out here is next level but this one has a farmish, homestead feel.

Yeah, I'm still a little wary about people and crowds and all eat outside. And why we went to the first matinee and less popular movies.

You should check out Everything Everywhere - is sci-fi multiverse but unique!

  2. Happy birthday!!! I'm sorry about the shoulder pain. I hope you get into the physical therapist soon. I'm glad you were able to find some plants you like and spend time with your husband. Your birthday sounds like it was very relaxing which is always nice. :) I'm glad you took an unplanned break. Sometimes, it's nice to be off-grid for a while.

PS I answered your question about dying my hair purple on my blog just so you know.

    1. I was not thrilled finding out I had gone spurs and arthritis already lol

Chilling for a week was nice even if we couldn't get outside much.

  3. I hope the PT gets back to you soon! Bummer it rained so much on your birthday week, but I'm glad Kevin got some paid time off. :)

I liked The Lost City but they did show a lot of the funny moments in the previews, I agree. I just love Dan Radcliffe though so he was fun!

    1. I just need them to call back lol It already feels so much better but I'm reluctant to move it too much without guidance because the Dr said where it is/arthritis can make it tear.

Oh yes! Daniel was great too! I enjoyed the movie - I just thought I would have liked it more and it's totally because I already saw the funniest stuff.

  4. Those are some crazy hours Kevin has been working. Glad they finally made him take some time off. Too bad the rain got in the way of plans, though. Hope you get some relief for the shoulder. I can't remember the last time I was at a theater. Long before Covid. I'm not much of a movie goer (or watcher) so I guess that's one thing I haven't had to miss. (Silver linings!)

    1. His boss was on maternity leave so he worked a lot and then when she came back, they had machinery problems he had to be there for (contractors) so they pretty much kicked him out. Which was nice!
I really need the therapists to call back. It's frustrating how long things take now. Thankfully, the pain isn't too bad day to day.

  6. OUCH! Mild arthritis and a few bones spurs doesn't sound like much fun. A visit to what sounds like a lovely nursery for lunch and a visit to the cinema, now that sounds much more like it. Glad to hearing the week wasn't altogether a washout, belated happy birthday wishes

  7. You could have kept the easter header a bit longer, surely it can stay around as some people's easter chocolate does? Or is easter chocolate and easter eggs a UK thing? I never know anymore. How rubbish that Kevin got time off work and then everything worked against you being able to take full advantage. And I'm sorry to hear your shoulder is going to need physio, hopefully you get hold of them soon to start working on it.

    1. I'm very annoyed that the therapist still hasn't called back a week later despite me contacting them several different ways.
Chocolate and Easter eggs are definitely a thing here!! Sometimes doing the headers/graphics helps motivate me to blog more lol

  8. Happy belated birthday. I do hope the physical therapist calls back soon. Can you can a different one and make an appointment?

    1. Me too! We don't have many here and ones that will be covered by insurance. If I can't get a call back soon, I'll have to start venturing further away. It will be a drive but at least I'll know how I can move and build strength without doing more damage.

  10. Happy birthday again! 🎉🎉🎉

I hope your rain has stopped. 🚫🌧 We received some more snow today, but it was not that much. However... it's 25°F at the moment. 😛

    I hope you've been having a better week. 🌞

  11. I want to see both movies, but I'll wait for them to stream. I have been to several post - Covid movies, so that's not the reason, just super busy right now. I am, however, going to see Dr. Strange next weekend. I'm sure it will be packed, but they have the big recliner seats, so spacing is pretty good.

I hope you are feeling better and glad you got to do some birthday celebrating.

    1. I really miss the cushy movie seating lol We had that everywhere in FL I have to drive to Portland here but I felt more comfortable in my empty local theater for now lol

  12. Despite the dr. appointment, it sounds like your birthday wasn't half bad 🙂. I hope you'll hear from therapy soon! I'm in the same boat with my arm - who knows when they're going to call me (not to mention, I could only get on the list for one thing at a time, so my knee will have to wait even more).

"At both movies it was just Kevin and I and 2 workers".
??? I thought people couldn't wait to go out and do stuff...oh, right, they've been doing it already while the pandemic raged and ravaged...🙄

    1. It's been two weeks and I still haven't heard back so I guess I'll leave messages everywhere again today and see what happens. We have limited resources where I live and I don't want to drive an hour in heavy traffic a few days a week if I can't get in here. Grrr

We purposely went to the very first show (11am during the week) and older/less popular movies to avoid crowds but, even so, it was less crowded than expected. I'm sure if we went later or the weekend (which I won't) it would be a different situation.

I'm still doing almost everything outside if I can and trying to avoid crowds. It's harder when everyone else has just moved on.

  13. Oh my gosh. I hope you are doing better and that Kevin's hours have calmed down. I need to get better about blogging. I've been so busy that I feel like I'm missing out on so much in the bookish world. Even though the week off didn't go as planned, it still sounds like you guys were able to fit in some fun things for your birthday week. <3

    1. The shoulder is a little better but I'd love to get in with a therapist just so I know what to do/not do as it heals.

Kevin's schedule is back to normal so yay!

My blogging is so erratic right now lol I do these sort of wrap up post to catch everyone up thinking I'll get back to regular blogging form there but I don't lol

  14. I love the Lego bunny - it's so cute! I'm sorry to hear about your hurt shoulder - and on your birthday too! Injuries fall under the worst presents the universe could give anyone. It sounds like the rest of your birthday turned out better, which you absolutely deserve. I hope you'll hear from therapy soon!

    1. It feels like an added blow to have an injury/find out you have arthritis when you're already feeling old on your birthday lol It is doing somewhat better though & I did have a great week.

      I love that bunny too!
