I'm Watching...

I'm back to a slow reading pace - I'm still reading Gone Dark by Amanda Panitch and it's very good so far. It's being compared to Dry by Neal Schusterman and I'd say it's a very fair comparison.

I have been watching a lot of tv though and here's a quick recap.

Bridgerton S1 (Netflix) - finished it and I'll stick with my original eh assessment. No regrets but I didn't love it. 👌

Turning Red (Disney+) - super cute movie that really nails the coming of age experience for girls. I know some viewers hating the mother/daughter struggle but I thought it was spot on and showed growth and understanding for both. And OMG I would LOVE if that happened to me!!! lol 👍👍

The Adam Project (Netflix) - "After accidentally crash-landing in 2022, time-traveling fighter pilot Adam Reed teams up with his 12-year-old self on a mission to save the future." I wasn't sure about this one at first but it was such a cute family type movie. Ryan Reynolds was great and the boy playing his character as 12 year old Ryan was great. 👍👍

Severence (Apple TV) "Mark leads a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives. When a mysterious colleague appears outside of work, it begins a journey to discover the truth about their jobs."

I'm a huge Adam Scott fan! I'm not sure if I like this show or not lol but I'm kind of hooked. It's kind of slow and plodding but I want to know what the hell Lumon is and what happens to everyone. 👍👎 lol

Station Eleven (HBOMax) "Twenty years after a flu pandemic resulted in the collapse of civilization, a group of survivors who make their living as traveling performers encounter a violent cult led by a man whose past is unknowingly linked to a member of the troupe"

I know everyone LOVES this dystopian show but I can't seem to make myself care about anyone. - especially the lead, Kirsten. I liked Jeveen but he hasn't been on for several episodes so we gave up on this show. 👎 (but I think others would like it more)

Sex Lives of College Girls (HBOMax) "The Sex Lives of College Girls is an American teen comedy-drama streaming television series created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble"

If you've watched Kaling's other shows, this very much feels like a Mindy Kaling show. She tackles a lot of things college girls go through, leaving home for the first time - being thrown in with people so different from you. She doesn't shy away from hard topics etc but it has an overly simplified feel to things. Most of the cast is likable and it's binge worthy even if it's mostly forgettable. I do love Leighton's coming out/romance arc though.  👌

An Astrological Guide to Broken Hearts S2 (Netflix) - "Alice is heartbroken and hopelessly single. But after befriending a charismatic astrology guru, she looks to the stars to find her perfect match."

This was one of my virtual date shows with my friend. We watched S1 last year and it ended on a cliffie so we decided to pick back up and see what happens. Big old skip it for this one. S1 was now great but there was chemistry between the leads, and side characters were interesting. S2 went completely off the rails and was SO annoying with an unsatisfying end. 👎👎

The Tourist (HBOMax) "
When a man wakes up in the Australian outback with no memory, he must use the few clues he has to discover his identity before his past catches up with him."

I have 2 episodes left but I'm really enjoying this one. Think Memento in the outback. I love the pacing and how the twists are unraveling. A little bit is revealed in each episode instead of dragging things out and dumping it all in the last one. Jamie Dorman is great as the frustrated, maybe bad - but can he be good now? guy trying to figure things out. 👍👍

  1. We don't have any of these providers which is probably just as well as our Amazon Prime Videos list is long enough as it is. Of the series you provide its probably Turning Red and Severence that most appeal to me.

  2. I am very interested in your thoughts on Bridgerton, while I enjoyed it, they definitely have taken a creative license that is different from the book. But they did beautiful imagery. It should be interesting to see how they handle Anthony's story.

I am excited for Passionflix's second part of Gabriel's Rapture.

    1. I never read the books so I have nothing to compare it to. I'm also not a huge fan of historical fiction so not the best person to ask lol

I thought it was okay overall.

  4. I don't watch TV/movies, but I read an interview with the creator of Seeing Red and it sounds like a really heartwarming, but honest, film.

    1. It was sooo sweet. I don't really understand what all the controversy is about.

  5. That's quiet a mix. I haven't watched many of those... I did love Adam Project. I wasn't wow'd by Turning Red. Disney films have been meh for me lately. I'll have to check out The Tourist, sounds good. We recently started Upload on Prime and really like it. Very different, engrossing, bit of humor. I highly recommend.

  6. I love your Easter theme. It's so cute! :D Do you design these yourself?

The only thing I've watched that you listed is The Adam Project and Bridgerton. I actually loved Bridgerton, but I can see how it's not for everyone. I also loved The Adam Project and I agree that Ryan Reynolds was awesome and the boy who played his younger self was amazing, lol.

I'm going to check out The Tourist. I loved Memento so I want to give this a try. I really want to watch Station Eleven but I want to read the book first. I know, I know. I'm probably the only person alive who hasn't read the book yet, lol.

    1. Thank you! I do design them myself.

I haven't read a Station Eleven so not the last one lol

Loved The Tourist and Bridgerton is not freaky my thing (historical) but was a good distraction from reality kind of show for me.

  7. I don't have HBO but I'd try Station Eleven if I did. Although it sounds slow? I'm watching Yellowjackets right now and it's a trip.

    1. I think you would love it! It's not slow at all - it's a different take on a post apocalyptic world. It has bands of artists - it's still gritty but it's more about the rebuilding and nothing really connected with me.

Or maybe it was my frame of mind while watching. I was in the mood for fluff lol

I heard Yellowjackets is wild. I'm watching The Wilds with a friend - have you seen it?

    2. I like the sound of that... something about a troupe of artists trying to navigate a post apoc world appeals to me. Also... I think the book was set in my area (upper Midwest generally, maybe even closer to Michigan)maybe?? Anyway...

Yellowjackets IS wild. So far. Shannon over at It Starts At Midnight insisted I watch it and we usually like the same stuff. :) And YES the Wild was awesome. Very similar to Yellowjackets actually, in a way... at least the trapped in a wilderness part. Shannon actually told me about that one too and I'm so glad she did- I loved it!

  9. I've watched none of these except Bridgerton S1 and I loved that. Actually, I think I just found it refreshing and loved the guy that played the Duke but whatever... The result is the same! lol I'm saving S2 for when I have a day off to myself and I'll binge it.

    1. I did like the Duke - Daphne not so much. Or at least some of the things she did.

I'm not a huge fan of historical romance ad the ton and all that so my opinion means next to nothing lol

  10. I'm not a TV/movie watcher but even so it's been impossible to escape Bridgerton this week. *Everyone* is watching it and/or talking about it. It's been interesting to see so many varied opinions.

    1. I'm giving S2 a go right now and I'm soooo bored lol

I thought I would like it way more because it's bantering and hate to love and those are my favorite things!

  11. Turning Red looks super cute. I can add Disney+ to my Hulu for $2.99 a month. I hope the special deal isn't over. 🤔
