Monday Musings…

Reading is still slow and I’m having a bit of a staycation this week so I’m just going to do a quick recap of my reading life…

Read:

You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson – Loved it! It’s light and filled with good happy vibes and real life struggles. Highly recommend for a beach read.

A Sweet Mess by Jayci Lee – A Sweet Mess was a not so sweet mess for me and I ended up dnf’ing it. The formatting was weird (may have been the arc and fixed in the final copy) with POV and time jumps that made reading this feel like work instead of fun. (arc provided by the publisher)

Reading:

Finding Joy by Adriana Herrera – Herrera is one of my favorite romance authors and this book is set in Ethiopa which is a new setting for me. It’s great so far.

Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall – I’m listening to this on audiobook – Hoopla has it – and it’s a lot of fun so far!

Hold Please:

These are the books I have on hold with Libby

Have you read any of these or have any books to recommend?

  1. I adored Boyfriend Material! And I have You Should See Me in a Crown; hopefully I can get to that sooner than later. I'll be curious to see what you think of Cinderella is Dead. It's definitely an interesting premise!!! I'm currently reading The Fell of Dark by Caleb Roehrig and it's so good!

  2. I will forever be recommending CROWN to people. So good. And BOYFRIEND MATERIAL was hilarious. Let me know what you think about the ending. I saw that you and Lindsi DNFed SWEET MESS. I did not hate it. I wasn't totally sold on the conflict, but it was enjoyable for me. Sorry it was a mess for you

  3. I'm listening to Boyfriend Material, too, (yay Hoopla!) and I am loving it so hard. Luc and Oliver are just making me all kinds of happy. I'm about 70% in. It's a long audio book!

  7. Looks a great mix of books. I've heard great things about all of them (even though you DNF'd Mess). I recently finished both Paradise Cove by Jenny Holiday and You Had Me at Hola by Alexis Daria - both are WONDERFUL romances.

  8. You Should See Me With A Crown is getting a lot of love at the moment! I love the cover, it's so joyful.

Boyfriend Material is another one with an awesome cover that I like the sound of.

I finished Daisy Jones and The Six a couple weeks ago and loved it but (and I seem to be in the minority here) I felt the beginning (just before Daisy and the Six mix) was a little slow. Not uninteresting, just not as gripping as when they get together. That said, I read the book and apparently audio rules for this one so maybe it works better in that format? I hope the hold comes through soon!

  9. I'll be starting Boyfriend Material soon, audiobook as well. I have high expectations because everyone LOVES it.

I'm also finishing up Cinderella is Dead. I think I like it? Probably 3.5 stars? We'll see.

I'm happy you've got Daisy Jones on audio. You're in for a treat!

  10. How romancey is You Should See Me in a Crown? I have read a lot of great reviews, and want to read it, but more than a little romance will kill it for me. Ha ha. 😁

    1. Not very. It's there and it's part of her life but this is a pretty well rounded story.

  11. Oooh, I’ve never heard of You Should See Me in a Crown but the cover looks fun (I know, I know. I’m not supposed to judge them that way but I do!). Will have to add to my list!
