My Monday Musings: August Wrap-Up

I had a GREAT reading (& blogging) month!

Read:

I read 12 books and most of them were SO good.

Like a Love Story and The Music of What Happens are definitely on Top 10 list for favorite books this year.

The Corgi Mystery cozy series has been a lot of fun to read.

I managed to read 3 books for the Dog Days of Summer reading challenge and that’s about 3 books more than I managed to read for ANY reading challenge outside of the generic Goodreads one.

7 were from the library and since so many of my books come from there now I joined the Library Love reading challenge – that makes 4 out 36 (I started late so I’m not including books I read before I joined). To me, this is like the Goodreads challenge. I feel zero pressure since it’s already what I’m doing anyway.

2 were arc's for upcoming reviews – American Love Story by Adriana Herrara and Dine with Me by Layla Reyne.

The only two that I didn’t love were The Right Swipe (dnf’d because the heroine just hung on to irrational grudges_ and Things You Save in A Fire ( I did like it! But it wasn’t the devastating, emotional read that I was expecting. Before any one issue could be dealt with an even bigger one was thrown in). But I’m an extreme outlier with both of those. They are both 5 star hits on Goodreads.

Angelfall was super trippy but fun and I’m looking forward to reading the next two.

I’ll have a review up for One Day to Fall this week.

September TBR:

WHATEVER I WANT
lol I have No review books so I really don’t have anything I need to read and nothing I have in mind other than finishing up the Penryn & the End of Days trilogy

Life:

I had started getting ahead with blogging and had planned on writing my Squirrel Fest post but then had a little detour with Fonzi. I found a lump and had to bring him to the vet. He also had some wonky bloodwork before moving here that needed to be rechecked.

I, of course, as any self respecting pet parent does, fell into a stress spiral. The lump is just a fatty growth and his bloodwork is still a little wonky and requires follow up (ultrasound with a specialist).

But he needed his teeth cleaned and that turned out to much bigger deal than planned. He had it done Sunday and had 16!!! teeth removed. He’s recovering really well. He was out about and about this morning and even ate breakfast but still sleepy. That’s better than how I would do! He’ll be on pain meds and antibiotics the rest of the week and hopefully all the sutures will heal ok and then we get back to following up on that bloodwork.

So now I need a nap from all that worrying lol. Kevin’s off for Labor Day an, for once, I don’t need to worry about the path of a hurricane ( thinking of all my friends out that way though – stay safe!) and hopefully, Dorian stays off the coast.

How did your reading go in August? What do you have planned to read in September?

    1. According to the diagram they gave me - 21. That's about 1/2 of his teeth left. He still has his canines and most of his premolars but everything else is gone.

  2. The fluffy boy is a real soldier! I hope he gets better soon! You too of course LOL. I'm sure you lost a few pounds in the process!

It must feel weird not to have to worry about hurricanes anymore...but at least there's something about FL that you won't miss!

Still looking forward to the squirrel stuff 😉. Admit it, you're ONLY trying to create suspense 😜.

  7. Aw, poor Fonzi. I'm glad he's doing okay though after having some teeth removed and I hope that all the blood work turns out to not be anything serious. Yay for a great reading/blogging month in August. I don't know what all I'm reading this month... I do have some review books, so we'll see!

  9. I think you did well with the Dog Days challenge. Oh poor Fonzi! I'm relieved that the lump wasn't cancer-I sort of wanted to ask if there was news on it but didn't want to in case the news was bad y'know? I have sympathy for his dental issues. I've got everything crossed for the bloodwork.

    1. I'm HORRIBLE with challenges so I'm happy with the 3 books!

I get that. I was worried about someone who just found out they were pregnant than a few days later said they were crying - but not why and I was so worried but didn't want to say anything.

  19. Awww poor Fonzi, what an ordeal! Hope he is doing okay now though! I am beyond impressed that you have no review books, too. I don't think I have experienced that in quite a few years! Also SO glad you loved Angelfall- it's such a favorite! I thought the rest of the series was a little... less awesome? But not bad or anything, I'll be interested to hear your thoughts! Glad it was such a good reading month, hope this one is too!

  22. Thank you so much for joining in o the DDOS celebration! I think I only read three dog books, too, but I have to check. 🐾✨

I'm glad all that was was a fatty tumor. Thank goodness dogs have a lot of teeth! Poor Fonzi, but at least he won't have to worry about those teeth needing to be cleaned next time. Did he ever get his toothbrush?
