My Monday Musings: TBB Asks: holiday edition

OMG guys....December is kicking my butt!

Kevin is on vacation and we had planned a trip to NC but they had a bad snowstorms so we had to cancel. We took Fonzi to St. Augustine Beach for the day instead and had a great time (even though a rock hit our windshield and needed to be replaced 😢)but pretty much all of our plans for his two weeks off have been scrapped due to bad weather of some kind.

With all that time home without plans you would think that I got a lot of reading in but NOPE. I haven't read even one thing in almost 2 weeks. Nothing!

I've been barely keeping up visiting and commenting on blogs because my hand thing is back (kind of like repetitive stress but starting with my thumb and going up to my neck). But I did manage to blog a bit ahead thinking I would be away. Thank you so much for visiting and commenting here while I've been mostly MIA.

I've been watching a ton of Christmas movies. For the cheesy Hallmark-ish type movies I liked No Sleep 'Til Christmas on Freeform, Mingle All the Way on Hallmark & I mostly liked The Holiday Calendar but I wasn't sold on the love interest. We did our annual Krampus re-watch and still have Elf and The Christmas Story to go.

I have my last batch of Christmas gifts to wrap and ship out today - pray for me.

This is my last scheduled post for the year - unless I get bit by the productivity bug but I will still be visiting you all!

Happy Holidays everyone!!!

Candy Canes? No. I can’t even remember the last time I had one.

Christmas morning early riser or sleep in? Same time as any other day lol If the animals wake me up then I get up – if they leave me alone I take advantage and sleep.

Did you shop on Black Friday?  I used to like…20 years ago but it’s CRAZY now. We did go out on Thursday the past few years just to look around but I’ve started taking advantage of the online Black Friday deals and use the store pick-up option. I just breeze by everyone in line on Friday morning.

Christmas tree up in November? We don’t really have a tree. Just a small table top one – sometimes. As you can see, I kind of went #gothmas this year

Do you get holiday ideas from Pinterest? Nope. Never even go on there.

Christmas Glam or Ugly Sweater? Neither. I’m in FL so no sweaters for me. I guess I would go ugly maybe. I’m not really a glam. Ugly but comfortable would be better.

Stocking Stuffers: Wrapped or Unwrapped? Wrapped. I LOVE stocking stuffers.. They’re so much fun to wrap and even more fun to open all the little gifts.

Traditional or Modern Christmas Songs? Traditional I guess. Just please oh please…not until after Thanksgiving if you MUST play them.

Fruitcake? I know everyone hates and makes fun of fruitcake but Kevin’s grandmother (who has since passed)used to make the most delicious fruitcake! It’s the only one I’ve liked though.

Is your Christmas shopping finished? Yes! But I still need to ship several things. *cries*

Is there snow in December where you live? Nope. Florida….

Classic Show: A Charlie Brown Christmas or Rudolph? Rudolph and the land of misfits!

  2. Sorry about your plans getting hacked by weather! I don't think Kevin gets many long holiday hiatuses during the year, does he?

LOL, Gothmas. I like your "I can explain" stocking!

    1. Yes, he saves most of his vaca for the end of the year. We're still having fun just not "getting away" like we had hoped.

It's either a blizzard where we're going or pouring here lol

  3. I haven't read that much this month either. Too much going on. I still need to fit in the cheesy Christmas movies. Hope you have a very merry Christmas :)

  4. I have been failing epically at reading this month! I don't have the energy, we're mid-move, and time seems to be nonexistent. By the time I finally get in bed at night, I'm falling asleep two sentences into a book. That usually results in them falling on my face, but I only cry when it's the iPad that falls. ;)

The kids have been sick, so it's just been a super month. Sorry your plans were cancelled due to the weather! At least you were able to spend some time with Kevin. <3

  5. Sorry the weather stymied your plans. Glad you were able to have a little fun anyhow. I was just chatting with someone today how I am a solid traditional Christmas song fan. The newer ones sounds like pop songs and tend to be over-sung, too many runs and howling. Just not my thing. Give me Bing, Andy, and Brenda Lee.

    1. We're having fun on little day trips and getting house stuff done so it's not too bad.

I don't like the newer pop songs either.

  6. Oh no, that's awful! My brother is in North Carolina and was snowed in for a few days, so I can definitely see why you chose to cancel. I hope you get some reading done soon!

    1. We would have had two good days but stuck inside the next two and probably not have been able to leave as planned. Not fun to be stuck in a hotel for days.

  7. CHARLIE BROWN ALL THE WAY!!!

I'm sorry your trip got canceled Karen, that's nice to lounge around a bit. I also hope your hand feels better!!

I'm going some last-minute shopping on Saturday. I'm hoping that if I leave early enough, I'll beat the crowds.

    1. I haven't watched Charlie Brown in YEARS. Not sure why.

I'm done shopping and shipping. Just have to wrap Kevin's gifts.

  10. I love your "gothmas" decorations! I just do a tabletop tree because otherwise our dogs will destroy it. I usually decorate the mantle and put a wreath on the door but I didn't feel like digging it out of the closet this year.

  11. Happy holidays! And sorry to hear about your hand- I hope that passes soon. Christmas movies are so relaxing this time of year. :)

I never shop on Black Friday, it's more of a recovery day for me haha.

    #gothmas lol

  12. I'm sorry your trip was canceled due to weather. That is not fun! I hope you and Kevin have some fun things to in Florida though, since he's on vacation. I still have a few Christmas gifts to get but nothing too crazy. I do have start wrapping things - and I have a couple gifts to mail out, but I'm not too worried about it getting there before Christmas. Sometimes a little late is nice -it's like a bonus gift!! :-)

  13. Bummer about your travel plans being scotched for the weather. I didn't get bit by the Christmas movie bug this year, but I do have to watch A Charlie Brown Christmas and White Christmas when I wrap gifts. I got my shipping done and that is more a pain than the shopping part. :) Enjoy the rest of your holidays, Karen! :)

I am shutting my blog down on Friday for a break. Hope you have a wonderful holiday! Catch you in the New Year!

The hand thing is such a pain. I get it from typing, the Kindle, and my phone. It's hard not to do any of those things long enough for it to heal.

The post office was hellish lol

  16. Oh no, I'm sorry you had to cancel your trip. I love your Gothmas decor though! I don't think I've ever actually tried fruitcake, but I know how much everyone seems to hate it, so I'm ok with that lol.

  17. Aw, I am sorry that your plans were messed up! But glad that you at least had some nice times anyway! I feel you with the Christmas music. Though I am probably pretty Grinchy about it even after Thanksgiving hahah. Funnily enough, it was 63 here in PA today, so no snow here either- and I do hope it stays that way! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

  18. So sorry about your vacation - I wish I could give you mine. We are supposed to leave today but both of my kids are sick and I really wish I could cancel, but nothing is cancel-able. We haven't traveled over Christmas for a few years and I though it would be fun but ... ugh. Maybe it will be a better trip than I think.

  19. LOL! You already know I binge on the Christmas movies, adn was pleased when I stumbled up Sleep on Freeform which was pretty different from almost everything on Hallmark, I'm always a fan of Elf, and Lifetime had some goodies this time around too. I think my fave was Christmas Chronicles on Netflix though. No fruitcake for me either.(lol) Merry Christmas and sorry about your plans. Hugs...RO

  20. I really liked The Holiday Calendar and was rooting for the BFF from the beginning. They were cute. And, I watched ELF for the first time ever last week! I can't believe I hadn't seen it before! It was so much fun.

Sucks about the repetitive strain thing being back AND that all your plans went sideways but on the plus side it's Christmas soon! (I'm clutching at happy straws, lol)

I love wrapping the stocking stuffers! But the professor gets grumpy at how long it takes to work through them so I'm not supposed to be wrapping them this year... We shall see! 😉

  21. Your holidays sound a bit like ours too Karen, it's been too hot here to do anything. I hope you can find some relief soon for your wrist, maybe it's worth seeing if there's a speech to text program that you could use to whip up a few reviews without needing to strain any further. I haven't felt all that festive this year, it's been hot in Australia that I would have preferred to cancel the entire thing.

  24. Rudolph is always a classic <3 I hate that everyone got all up in arms about it this year, because it has such a beautiful message and it's just timeless.

We didn't have any snow this year for Christmas, and it kind of felt... meh. Maybe I'm a sucker for a White Christmas and all the romance I have about it in my head. The commercialism is out of control lately. I do like the after holiday sales, and have been trying to take advantage of them this season because I'm finding that decorating a home for the holidays can be super $$$.

I'm so sorry to hear that you've experienced so much poop weather, and that a rock hit the windshield! That's the worst when that happens!! Here's to a happy and sweet 2019! Also I'm so sorry to hear about your hand thing :( have you been to see anyone about that? XOXO

    1. There was Rudolph drama???? I only heard about the Baby It's Cold Outside song drama.

Yeah - the hand thing is just basically a repetitive stress injury from using the same fingers typing/on phone/kindle reading. I have to rest it and do stretching exercises. Once I hot the strain point though it can take weeks to recover.
