monday musings

Today I have a few new book releases, book news, and a couple of mini reviews.

Cover Reveal & Excerpt:

unnamedEW.com had the big reveal for Amie Kaufman & Megan Spooner’s latest – Unearthed.

When Earth intercepts a message from an extinct alien race, it appears that the Undying's advanced technology has the potential to save the ruined planet. The aliens’ message leads to the planet Gaia. For Jules Addison, the discovery of an ancient culture offers unprecedented opportunity for study, as long as scavengers like Amelia Radcliffe don't loot everything first.Despite their opposing reasons for smuggling themselves onto the alien planet, they're both desperate to uncover the riches hidden in the Undying temples.

Beset by scavenger gangs, Jules and Mia form a fragile alliance... but both are keeping secrets that make trust nearly impossible. As they race to decode the ancient messages, Jules and Mia must navigate the traps and trials within the Undying temples while staying one step ahead of the scavvers. They came to Gaia to unravel the ancient beings’ mysteries. But the more they learn about the Undying, the more Jules and Mia start to feel like their presence in the temple is part of a grand design—one that could spell the end of the human race.

As their loyalty to each other is tested, Jules and Mia must both decide the lengths to which they will go to survive, while the fate of humanity lies in the balance.

Expected publication: January 9th, 2018 – Disney-Hyperion

~ I LOVED the Starbound trilogy and can’t wait to give this duology a try!

Netgalley:

34939537Enemies like you (Enemies with Benefits #1) by Joanna Chambers, Annika Martin ~ Goodreads

“They're dangerous men. Absolute enemies. And totally hot for each other.

Will has never met anyone like Kit. He’s arrogant. Gorgeous. Lethal. The most expensive bodyguard money can buy.

And Will can’t seem to resist him.

A simple command in Kit's cut-glass accent makes Will want things he’s never wanted, do things he’s never done. Their red-hot chemistry is off the charts.

Just one problem: Will has vowed to kill the billionaire that Kit is hell-bent on protecting.”

This is a stand-alone hot contemporary M/M bodyguard/spy romance.

33388309Summer Stock by Vanessa North ~ Goodreads

“Tabloid scandals have driven TV star Ryan Hertzog to North Carolina’s Outer Banks, where he’s hiding out doing summer stock at his cousin’s seaside theater. When a hookup with local handyman Trey Donovan results in Ryan being photographed butt naked, he vows to keep his pants on and his hands off Trey. How was he supposed to know Trey would turn out to be the summer stock set builder?
Trey isn’t looking for a relationship; he’s still recovering from the emotional fallout of an abusive marriage. But Ryan’s laughter draws him in again and again, and he’s not about to say no to fooling around.

As the summer heats up, the paparazzi catch Ryan in increasingly compromising situations. Ryan might be too much drama for a summer fling—and Trey might be just an intermission from Ryan’s Hollywood life. But if they take their cues from Shakespeare, all’s well that ends well.”

Mini Reviews:

34949954Enemies with Benefits (Enimies with Benefits 0.5) by Joanna Chambers, Annika Martin ~ Goodreads

They're dangerous men. Absolute enemies. And totally hot for each other.”

My thoughts:  This is the prologue novella for Enemies Like You (above). Combustible and hot, hot, hot. That is all. lol

34724119Stolen in Love by G.G. Andrew (Love and Lawbreakers, #2) ~ Goodreads

“Kim Xavier steals things. She can't help it. Recovering from her shoplifting addiction has never been easy, but she's giving it a shot. When she comes home to a ransacked apartment, Kim knows she's finally taken the wrong thing from the wrong person. And she can't tell the police--especially not the cop whose heart she broke months ago.

Scott Culpepper wants Kim Xavier. He can't help it. Ever since he met the smart-mouthed woman while on patrol in New Haven, he hasn't been able to get her or her red lips out of his mind. Unfortunately, she's also got a police record, and the single dad has learned the hard way not to get involved with unpredictable women.

But when Kim is threatened by someone selling information used to harass women online, Scott steps up to keep her safe--even if it means spending more time with her than he should. The two work to unravel the case, which leads them from the dirty underbelly of the Ivy League to posh preschool parties to a drug dealer who can quote Kerouac. Though the biggest danger may be Kim stealing the very thing Scott can't afford to lose: his heart.”

My thoughts: Kim and Scott are a couple that was introduced in last years Graffiti in Love but you don’t need to have read that one (but it’s cute!) So a Keltopmaniac and a cop. Yes, that causes a lot of trouble as you would imagine. Kim is seeing a therapist and on the road to recovery but still has lapses during stressful periods, and I liked that it wasn’t all tidy and she struggled. That ‘s realistic.
Kim’s previous life of crime comes back to haunt her and put her danger and I’m surprised to say that I didn’t have the "who done it" all figured out like I usually do! This wasn’t as funny as Andrew’s other books but if you enjoy a bit of mystery and danger with your romance give this one a try.

  4. Unearthed sounds fabulous, think I'll be adding that one. I like the premise. And I think this is the first I've heard of it too, although I like the Illuminae series and Amie Kaufman of course is part of that.

    1. I don't think it's as good as their others. Kind of generic?

  9. That Unearthed cover is awesome! And I'll have to check out that Blood Guard book since I love vampires. A kleptomaniac and a cop, I imagine that would be an interesting relationship. And it sounds like the klepto part is handled well and not in a joking sort of way.
