music: twenty one pilots–heavydirtysoul

It’s been SO long since I posted about music. It seems that most of the music memes have dried up but if you know of any out there let me know.

Any way – I’m jumping back in with a song that’s been out for awhile but I LOVE it. No matter how many times I hear it. It’s fun while driving, if you’re pissed off, dancing. HeavyDirtySoul by Twenty One Pilots has got you covered!

Quick story first! We saw Twenty One Pilots as an opening act a few years ago and they were awful. lol They were trying a little too hard with the theatrics instead of concentrating on the music. But the songs were good so we kept an eye on them. They started doing more festivals, polishing their act and adding new songs and came around here again but as the headliner this time and they were AMAZING. Definitely in the top 5 concerts I’ve ever been to.

Their audiences have an incredible energy too. It’s a little weird TBH. They carry signs/huge banners saying that Tyler (the lead singer) saved them, they’re sobbing. It’s strange but I love that their music seems to speak to so many young people. The lyrics tap into the anxiety that this generation is feeling while still giving them hope. IMO anyway…

So here’s the song – finally! lol from the TOPxMM sessions

At the concert this was the big closing song – they played their drums ON the crowd – confetti flying everywhere. SO much fun and one of the last times they were able to play in a small venue.

Let me know what you're listening to this week!

  1. This is a good song. I don't know a lot of their songs, but I like the ones I do know. And that is pretty cool that they affect their fans so much. But playing drums ON the crowd?! That's crazy lol. I really had no idea what you meant until I saw the picture.

    1. Yes, ON the audience lol They had platforms and the audience held them up.

I read a few concert reviews after this one and heard that they had to stop doing it because they audiences were getting too rowdy and actually tearing his clothes.

  3. I must admit, I've never heard of them. I sadly hardly listen to the radio or take note of current music trends unless it's something boppy or something I can belt out. Will definitely give them a listen <3

    1. It was also one of their last smaller shows. They had to go to stadiums after us.

  8. Their concert here in Nashville sold out so fast! They're new to me, my boss said they've been around so it's great that for you fans who've followed their career that they're enjoying their much deserved success (mainstream) now.

    1. Yeah - they've really took off from when I first saw them and now they're HUGE. Our venue was almost too small for them and it was kind of crazy. A few shows later they had to switch to stadiums.

  9. Now that you mention it, it really has been a long time since you used to post a music post a week! I always liked those posts from you and I seem to recall getting some pretty good recommendations that I would never have been exposed to otherwise. Love this one!!
