blog tour: A Week of mondays by Jessica Brody–the fourth monday

AWOM_blogtour

Hi everyone! I’m thrilled to be a stop on author Jessica Brody’s A Week of Mondays Blog Tour today. I’ve loved her books ever since I read 52 Reasons to Hate My Father. She writes incredibly fun yet realistic YA and A Week of Mondays is no exception. Think of it as Groundhog Day meets a John Hughes movie.

A Week of Mondays protaganist, Elle, has the worst Monday ever but gets the chance to do it again. And again. And again. For 7 Mondays – until she gets it right.

Getting it “right” might not mean the same outcome as she thought she originally wanted that first Monday and watching Elle change and grow over the course of the book was a lot of fun.
There’s also a great message about trying out different versions of yourself but ultimelty to do it for yourself NOT to win over a guy or impress others.

So without further ado... here’s Jessica with week #4's look. Or what I like to call - Elle’s to hell with it Monday – where she just decided to let loose lol

Thank you to Jessica and Macmillan/Fierce Reads for having me on the tour.

The Fourth Monday - BoardIf you could relive the same day over and over again, what would you do? What would you change? Would you change yourself?

As I started writing A WEEK OF MONDAYS, I knew I wanted this to be a reinvention story. I wanted Ellie to essentially re-create herself every single day in order to figure out who she really is by the end. Because that’s what we do, isn’t it? We try on different personas. We post different kinds of pictures on Instagram. We reinvent ourselves over and over in hopes of finding our true identity.

The key to Ellie’s reinvention, when it came to this novel, was her 7 different looks for the 7 different Mondays. Each day she tries on a different version of herself. Fortunately, for this piece of the story, I had help. My little sister, Terra Brody, is an assistant costume designer in Los Angeles. She’s worked on hit TV shows such as Pretty Little Liars, Scandal, and Shameless. For each Monday, I gave her “character notes” for the role Ellie was trying to play and she helped me put together a concept board to represent the “look” for that day. She does similar boards for when she’s costuming a character in a TV show.

As part of the A WEEK OF MONDAYS blog tour, I’ll be sharing 6 of the 7 concept boards that we created for the book, as well as the final “looks” we put together for each Monday.

The 7th board is a secret…as is Ellie’s true identity. (Until you read the book, anyway.) ☺

Here is the concept board for the Fourth Monday

Character Notes: Fed up with her failed attempts to keep Tristan from breaking up with her, Ellie decides to try something completely new. If Tristan doesn’t like the prim and proper “rule follower” maybe he’ll fall for the sultry, mysterious vixen!

Copy of Jessica Brody - High Res_credit Brian BraffJessica Brody knew from a young age that she wanted to be a writer. She started self “publishing” her own books when she was seven years old, binding the pages together with cardboard, wallpaper samples, and electrical tape.

After graduating from Smith College in 2001 where she double majored in Economics and French and minored in Japanese, Jessica later went on to work for MGM Studios as a Manager of Acquisitions and Business Development. In May of 2005, Jessica quit her job to follow her dream of becoming a published author.

Since then, Jessica has sold over twelve novels for teens, tweens, and adults including 52 Reasons to Hate My Father, The Karma Club, My Life Undecided, and the three books in the Unremembered trilogy, the first of which is currently in development as a major motion picture by the producers of The Vampire Academy, Zero Dark Thirty, Life of Pi, and Slumdog Millionaire. In 2016, she will release two new contemporary novels, A Week of Mondays(August) and Boys of Summer (April), and in 2017, her debut middle grade novel entitled, Addie Bell’s Shortcut to Growing Up, will hit bookstore shelves.

Jessica also writes books for the Descendants: “School of Secrets” series, based on the hit Disney Channel Original movie, Descendants!

When I made the wish, I just wanted a do-over. Another chance to make things right. I never, in a million years, thought it might actually come true…

Sixteen-year-old Ellison Sparks is having a serious case of the Mondays. She gets a ticket for running a red light, she manages to take the world’s worst school picture, she bombs softball try-outsand her class election speech (note to self: never trust a cheerleader when she swears there are no nuts in her bake-sale banana bread), and to top it all off, Tristan, her gorgeous rocker boyfriend suddenly dumps her. For no good reason!

As far as Mondays go, it doesn’t get much worse than this. And Ellie is positive that if she could just do it all over again, she would get it right. So when she wakes up the next morning to find she’s reliving the exact same day, she knows what she has to do: stop her boyfriend from breaking up with her. But it seems no matter how many do-overs she gets or how hard Ellie tries to repair her relationship, Tristan always seems bent set on ending it. Will Ellie ever figure out how to fix this broken day? Or will she be stuck in this nightmare of a Monday forever?

From the author 52 Reasons to Hate My Father and The Unremembered trilogy comes a hilarious and heartwarming story about second (and third and fourth and fifth) chances. Because sometimes it takes a whole week of Mondays to figure out what you really want.

  1. I like that Jessica's sister helped her with the various looks. I think we've all imagined going somewhere new and starting over; being a different version of yourself.

    1. It was fun to watch Elle try out all the versions of herself - especially when she realized there were no permanent consequences so she could really go for it - like with this look.

    1. I thought that at first but I wouldn't mind trying new looks without anyone knowing who I was before.

    1. It's irritating to keep having to relive it but also cool to really just go out there and try all the things you've wanted to.

  6. I enjoyed this book and interesting to find out more from the author. I don't think that I would enjoy repeating a day over and over again.

    1. I don't think I would want to the way Elle did. Maybe to change my look and try new things but she had so many bad things happen each day lol

  7. Oh I love the sound of this one Karen, you totally had me at John Hughes. I think we've all had those days we'd like to do over until we got it right. But I can imagine the flip side being that things could get much, much worse. I really enjoyed Unrememberd and excited to grab a copy <3
