Review: Chase Me (Broke and Beautiful #1) by Tessa Bailey

23285823College drop-out, Roxy Cumberland, moved to New York with dreams of becoming an actress, but her dwindling bank account is quickly putting the kibosh on that fantasy. To make some quick cash, she signs up to perform singing telegrams. Her first customer is a gorgeous, cocky Manhattan trust-funder if she ever laid eyes on one. And what could be more humiliating than singing an ode to his junk, courtesy of his last one night stand? Maybe the fact that she’s dressed in a giant, pink bunny costume

After a night out to celebrate winning his last case, lawyer Louis McNally II isn’t prepared for the pounding in his head or the rabbit serenading him from the front door. But the sassy wit and sexy voice of the girl behind the mask intrigues him, and one look at her stunning face—followed by a mind-blowing kiss against his doorjamb—leaves Louis wanting more.

Roxy doesn’t need a spoiled rich boy who’s had everything in life handed to him on a Tiffany platter. But there’s more to Louis than his sexy surface and he’s determined to make Roxy see it...even if it means chasing her all over NYC.

Review:

FUN – NICE HERO – LOW ANGST = my book reading catnip right now.

When I heard those words bandied about regarding the latest New Adult release, Chase Me by Tessa Baily, I one clicked that sucker immediately.

I was not disappointed! Chase Me is hilarious, sexy, sweet and has a hero that falls fast for the girl and is completely befuddled by his feelings. So adorable. I LOVED him. LOVED. It’s one of the first times that I actually believed a former playboy hero when he said it wasn’t about the sex. This couple has smoking hot chemistry but they also really care about each other outside of the bedroom.

The only thing that keeps from making this a 5 star instead of a 4 star read is the conflict/resolution.
Roxy and Louis come from vastly different economic backgrounds and it causes quite a few problems between the two. I really enjoyed how this was explored and the tension it caused.

But the major drama ended up being spurred by another, less interesting, event. It does bring things to a head but ignored the more pressing differences between the two and kept them from resolving any of their real issues that the book seemed to be building towards.

I don’t think I’m spoiling anything by saying they work things out but I don’t feel confidant that they dealt with the big things that might cause problems later. The ending was super abrupt too.

Despite that quibble, I would highly recommend this one. It was a lot of fun to read!

  1. Hmm, I don't like abrupt endings that much but this does sound like an intriguing romance - let's see how it goes - Great review.

    1. Me either but everything is wrapped up with clear ending but it could have used a few more sentences.

I think she meant to leave it on a cute note (which it was) but I was hoping for more.

  3. The summary makes the book sound all kinds of quirky. I recently fell in love with NA thanks to Boomerang, so maybe I'll give this one a try soon. Great review!

  6. I'd be frustrated as well if I didn't feel like any of the real issues were at least on the way to being resolved or addressed.
