Reader ramblings: The September reading pile

The majority of my BEA books are September releases so it will be a busy month for me!

This book pile are September releases that I’ve DNF’d, read, or decided to take a pass on after reading less than stellar reviews.

DNF’d On a Clear Day
Passing it on Blackbird
Read and enjoyedThe Fine Art of Pretending, Falling Into Place, Adrenaline Rush

And here are two more finished copies I received to review from the publisher. To be honest, I’m struggling a little with Vampires of Manhattan, so I’ve set it aside for now but Made for You sounds super creepy and interesting.

What are you looking forward to reading in September?

  1. I've never read anything by Westerfeld, but I REALLY want to read Afterworlds. It sounds fascinating and I read a really good review that has me quite curious.

    1. That book is the one that intimidates me the most lol
It's huge and I keep reading mixed thoughts about it. I guess I'll have to find out for myself. I haven't read anything by him before either.

    1. My hubby picked that one up. I'm not sure it's my kind of book but I'll give it a shot.

  3. Jandy Nelson! I pre-ordered it ages ago and I can't wait to get my greedy little hands on it. She is just so brilliant! There are no words. And Marr's new book is on its way too, I'm pretty excited about it.

  4. I'm curious about Made For You. I haven't read anything by Marr, but do have her Fae series. I'll be waiting to see what you think!

    1. I read Wicked Lovely and loved her writing but I stopped there. I don't' love the fae and I'm not great with the love triangle stuff lol

I am reading Made For You now and I like it so far.

    1. I think I'm going to have problems with afterworlds too. I'll give it a a try though!

Yeah - I saw what everyone was saying about Blackbird. I read a few pages and decided nah….I don't have time for reading things I know I won't enjoy.

  6. I have read less YA this year for that very reason. I'm just being too critical of them because I'm on angst overload so I'm trying to avoid that for now.

    Good luck!

  7. It looks like you have your work cut out for you this month! A number of my bloggy peeps have DNF'd Vampires of Manhattan, so I wouldn't be surprised if you gave up on it soon too. Oh wells, you have plenty of other books to keep you busy, no use wasting time on one bad egg. Happy Friday!

  8. Ok, I need you to read I'll Give You the Sun and ASAP, okay? Good. Now, I would like to know what you think of Anatomy of a Misfit so that goes next, got it? Great, I'm glad we are on the same page ;)

(and you know I'm kidding, for anyone who reads this lol).

    1. So bossy! lol

I think I need to be in the right emotional mindset for Nelson's. I'm sure that's a tear jerker but I will read Anatomy of a Misfit next.

      Approve?

  9. Oh too bad that some of those fell flat. :( Still, I think I'm curious about the Marr book too. I hope that one is good!

  10. Yeah, I'm not sure if Vampires of Manhattan would make sense if you haven't read the Blue Bloods series. I did read BB wayyy back and didn't even know about V of M and I will definitely check it out.

    1. I think I understand everything so far - I'm just bored lol I'm giving it one more shot tonight and then I'm letting it go.

I have an extra copy if you want it.

  11. I hope you like Virgin, it's a little crude with all the vagina talk and desperate heroine. I do hope you find the "beauty" in it though... the feedback that I've been reading about Vamps of Manhattan are so-so too.

    1. I might try it tomorrow. I just read a really crude book so I should be ok lol

Yeah - VoM is really slow going so far. I think I'm going to have to give up. Everyone loves that author so much. i didn't like her YA Frozen so I was trying to give her another try.

  14. So many good Sept. books! Heard great things about I'll Give You the Sun, though I already DNFed Blackbird--the ENTIRE book is in second person and I couldn't handle it.
