Early Review: Best Kind of Broken (Finding Fate #1) by Chelsea Fine

New Adult Romance

18360175Pixie and Levi haven't spoken in nearly a year when they find themselves working―and living―at the same inn in the middle of nowhere. Once upon a time, they were childhood friends. But that was before everything went to hell. And now things are... awkward.

All they want to do is avoid each other, and their past, for as long as possible. But now that they're forced to share a bathroom, and therefore a shower, keeping their distance from one another becomes less difficult than keeping their hands off each other. Welcome to the hallway of awkward tension and sexual frustration, folks. Get comfy. It’s going to be a long summer.

Review:I read Fine's Sophie & Carter several years ago and fell head over heels in love. I have been wanting to read more by this author for awhile now. I know her Archers of Avalon series is quite popular but there's a love triangle - with brothers - if you know me, there's no way I was going there! lol

I was so excited to hear that she had a New Adult series coming out. Best Kind of Broken is book #1 in her new Finding Fate series.

Chelsea Fine writes the sweetest stories that leave feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. There's a sense of family and friendship that just make she smile.

Pixie and Levi's romance is filled with raw emotion, longing and playful exchanges. Instead of non stop, explicit sex though, Fine opts for the slow build but because of their history, the tension & love leaps off the page. When things finally do heat up it's HOT.

Friendships (both past & present) feature heavily in Best Kind of Broken and I appreciated how they were just as important as the romance.

Levi has a bit of a possessive streak that I didn't love (but trust me - he's a great, swoon worthy guy - not a big alpha a**hole - so don't worry), I would have loved to have delved more into the parental dynamics and the ending was wrapped up a bit too easily but overall this was such a delightful, funny, emotional read. I read it in just under 5 hours.

As with Sophie & Carter, this book made me smile. Her contemporary romances (thus far) have that small town, close knit feel and I hope Chelsea Fine writes more non love triangley books so I can read more by this very talented author.

    1. IT has the requisite angst but there was a lot of love and humor too. Sometimes I like to end a book smiling - not emotionally drained.

    1. I'm not a fan of the label. Like... why does it matter? It's just an age IMO.

I don't read "NA" because it's NA - I go for a good story just like with any genre.

I hope the genre branches out some this year so it's not just considered YA with sex and OMH angst. That gets boring for me after a while.

  5. I guess I will just have to add this author to my wishlist. I know you felt the same way as I did about NA, so I know if you say this one is good, then I must read it.

    1. I'm not a fan of the over the top angst NA that's out there right now. This one had some but was also lighter and fun.

  6. Possessiveness is a fine line -- you want the guy to be alpha without being an alphahole and too possessive definitely pushes him into that territory.

    1. He's not alpha - more of a does dumb things while jealous kind of guy lol

Really dumb things though so I was on the fence a few times but ultimately he's a good guy.

  7. Ok, you've convinced me :) I actually haven't read a good New Adult book that really grabbed me since last fall so I NEED one. Should I read these in order--are there overlapping characters warranting a chronological reading?-- or does it not matter? Thanks for putting this one on my radar, Karen:)

    1. This is the first one in the series. There are two more scheduled for this year I believe.

For really good NA I would also recommend Faking It by Cora Carmack & Foreplay by Sophie Jordan.

This one is lighter. Not perfect but fun & a quick read. I really enjoyed it.

  8. Do love a good emotional book. I love their names! That alone makes me smile. Glad to hear that this was a great start to a new series. I am a little cautious because its "New Adult" and I have had bad luck as much as good luck with them but I will be trying it.

  9. This sounds so good, Karen! I haven't read any of Fine's books, but have heard good things. I wish I had time for this. Wah!

  10. I'm surprised you read and enjoyed an NA book. I think we have similar tastes in the types of books in this genre so I'll take your advice on this... I'm over possessive too but I'm happy to hear this one worked for you.
