Review: The Program (The Program #1) by Suzanne Young

11366397In Sloane’s world, true feelings are forbidden, teen suicide is an epidemic, and the only solution is The Program.

Sloane knows better than to cry in front of anyone. With suicide now an international epidemic, one outburst could land her in The Program, the only proven course of treatment. Sloane’s parents have already lost one child; Sloane knows they’ll do anything to keep her alive. She also knows that everyone who’s been through The Program returns as a blank slate. Because their depression is gone—but so are their memories.

Under constant surveillance at home and at school, Sloane puts on a brave face and keeps her feelings buried as deep as she can. The only person Sloane can be herself with is James. He’s promised to keep them both safe and out of treatment, and Sloane knows their love is strong enough to withstand anything. But despite the promises they made to each other, it’s getting harder to hide the truth. They are both growing weaker. Depression is setting in. And The Program is coming for them.

Review:
Reviewgasm - That time in a bloggers life when they read a book they love so much that they want to write the most perfect - most articulate - THE definitive review ever written to convey the wondrous nature of said book but can only say…

OMFGILOVETHISBOOKOMGFLAILS!!!!

The Program was that kind of book for me.

I'm sure there were issues with it….things that weren't explained, plot holes…whatever… but I didn't notice a thing and went for a spectacular reading ride.

It's rare that I get this invested or emotional reading a book these days. It was a completely irrational, visceral experience for me.

I swooned, I yelled, I tried to keep my heart palpitations at a bare minimum and barely succeeded.

The first half of this book had me so depressed that I was sure I was going to need to enter *The Program* and have my sad thoughts erased but then the second half had me in knots wondering what would happen and how this could possibly turn out well. It was like a shot of adreniline!

Did I have issues with a few things? Sure - but I let that blogger/reviewer side of me take a hike and just enjoyed this fantastic book!

I NEED The Treatment desperately and I rarely get crazy for sequels.

I was in such a slump the beginning of this year so I'm happy to find books like these.

  6. Awesome! I've heard good things about this story AND the next one in the series. Guess that means I need to pick it up, huh? Especially if it gives good reviewgasms (LOVE that term, btw).

Hm... I'm guessing you just sort of liked it? :) Oh I love a good book and no book is perfect. I love it when you can just forget the faults and enjoy yourself. I mean that is why we got into reading in the first place. So adding this one to the wishlist!

    1. Yeah...it was...ok. lol

I think that's the thing with blogging. Try to review honestly but not make it about dissecting the poor book. It's hard to find that balance and keep it fun.

  8. I'm this way with her books A NEED SO BEAUTIFUL and A WANT SO WICKED. Literally one of my favorite YA series for being so damn emotionally resonant. Both brought me to tears. Needless to say, your love of THE PROGRAM has me excited to get around and read it. :)
