Let’s Talk! Procrastination…

Let’s Talk is a fun new meme to discuss an little bit of this & a little bit of that (not always bookish) hosted by Smash Attack Reads and A Book Obsession.
This weeks question:  Procrastination: does it rule your life? Or are you more of the prepared/scheduled type?

I don’t procrastinate a lot but I am a fly by the seat of my pants kind of person. The more I try to schedule my life or blogging the more I resist doing what I’m supposed to. I feel pressured and freak out.

I’m a post-it note planner. I jot a few notes down and then it’s stuck in my head. This system drives my husband nuts because to him there is no order (he’s VERY organized) but it makes sense to me even though post-it notes are stuck everywhere around my house.

I’m envious of people who use google docs to plan their blogs months in advance but that’s just not me. If it’s not on a piece of paper in front of me then I forget it.

How about you? Do you put things off until the last minute? Or are you super organized?

  1. Procrastinator is my middle name. Though, to be fair, as far as blogging is concerned I like things to be orderly and I plan and schedule everything well in advance. Funny how I can't seem to implement my obvious organizational skills in real life *shrugs*.

    1. Oddly enough the blog is the one place that freaks me out if I plan too much. It feels more like a job then and I resent it.

  2. I'm your typical type a personality, so I keep a color coded Google Calendar for my reviews, release dates and such. I never would have survived otherwise. It's how I handle being a Uni professor, a book blogger and a single mom of a hyperactive ballerina.
But I know that most people aren't like me and I admire those who can approach things in a more relaxed manner.
Oh, and it's easy for you not to plan when you have such an awesome blogging assistant. :))

    1. I would imagine you need to keep that organized just to keep your head above water with all that going on.

Yes! Figment is a harsh taskmaster lol

    1. I do tend to do blog stuff last minute but I don't really consider it procrastination, I do it when he mood hits and it's a hobby for me so I think that's fine.

  4. I try not to procrastinate too much, but it's bound to happen with a blog and dealing with school. I'm almost always a bit behind in school...not where things are late but where I always have a million things and deadlines are fast approaching. This is currently happening and it's driving me nuts. LOL

As for the blog, since I'm not online as much during the week, I am trying to schedule thigns more...but it't not always easy and I'm usually only a week head. A whole month! I can't imagine! haha

    1. I go week to week on the blog. I do have a few ARC posts waiting for their release dates but lately I've just been trying to be relaxed about it.

  6. I'm a mix of both, but for the blog, I'm probably the opposite of you - I'm a planner. But I do change things up regularly even when they're planned ahead, but I like the flexibility that it gives. I did give up talking about books before I'd read them on my blog though - because I change my mind a lot, and I didn't want to feel obligated to read something because I had mentioned it.

  7. Oh man, I am a total pantser. We schedule reviews for the month, but it's a pretty fluid system (with the exception of blog tours, special guest posts,etc.)--all three of us are busy adults, so I'm pretty relaxed about our posting system.

That said, I'm trying to be a little better about drafting up posts at least a week or so in advance, rather than my old system of writing just before I publish. It's been a little easier recently since I feel a little more enthused about blogging, which is something I struggled with a lot last year.

Totally admire people who can somehow schedule weeks in advance and post daily, though. I don't know how they do it!!

    1. I just wrote three posts for next week but that's rare for me.

I was burned out last year too and that has definitely not been good for the blog. I'm enjoying myself now so I hope to get back in the groove with reading and reviewing but I doubt I will ever have a google doc or firm schedule other than with guest posts/tours.

I list my books I need to read for the month and any upcoming reviews I need to write and that's about it.

I don't want blogging to be a chore so I don't really consider it procrastination.

  8. I have a (paper!) blog calendar and I pencil in a loose schedule just so I can have an idea of how many review books I have to slot in, etc. That helps me not freak out, because I can see what's ahead. Also helps me say no to stuff on NetGalley if I know my schedule is getting full.

I prefer to draft reviews right after I finish the book and then let them sit at least a day or two, because I always want to change something. But last week I finished a book about 30 minutes before the post was supposed to go up. Not the way I prefer to work, but stuff happens :)

  9. I hope to get to the point one day where I have my blog taken care of for months but right now I take it a week at a time. :) I am hoping to get myself to a well organized state soon!
