Must Read Monday: Girl of Nightmares (Anna #2) –Kendare Blake

MUST READ MONDAY

Must Read Monday is a meme hosted by Jen from What's on the Bookshelf to showcase a book or series (old or new) that we recommend.

This week’s book is one I’ve been DYING to read. Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake, sequel to Anna Dressed in Blood. Gah!!! Look at that cover!

Summary: It's been months since the ghost of Anna Korlov opened a door to Hell in her basement and disappeared into it, but ghost-hunter Cas Lowood can't move on.
His friends remind him that Anna sacrificed herself so that Cas could live--not walk around half dead. He knows they're right, but in Cas's eyes, no living girl he meets can compare to the dead girl he fell in love with.

Now he's seeing Anna everywhere: sometimes when he's asleep and sometimes in waking nightmares. But something is very wrong...these aren't just daydreams. Anna seems tortured, torn apart in new and ever more gruesome ways every time she appears.

Cas doesn't know what happened to Anna when she disappeared into Hell, but he knows she doesn't deserve whatever is happening to her now. Anna saved Cas more than once, and it's time for him to return the favor.

Why you must read it!

Kendra Blake took a lot of chances with this sequel and spun all the preconceived notions about what I thought was going to happen on their head. She takes the events for Anna Dressed in Blood and kicks it up a notch. The stakes could not be higher.

Just as in Anna Dressed in Blood she pushes the boundaries for horror in YA and keeps up a breathtaking pace while allowing her characters to grow into adults who have to make difficult choices and become who they are meant to be.

My one caveat is that there wasn’t enough of Anna in the beginning. I love Cas and he is amazing in Girl of Nightmares but there just isn’t anything as terrifying or badass as when Anna is on the page. She is one of the most memorable characters I have ever read.

It’s hard to find a book these days that doesn’t follow the predictable path but this one is it. Girl of Nightmares is both thrilling and heartbreaking and a worthy sequel to Anna Dressed in Blood.

I can't say much but it didn't go where I thought it would. I want to hear what people think and if they like it.
