Interview: Myra McEntire

I am SO excited that Myra McEntire has taken time out of her insanely busy schedule to answer a few quick questions about Timepiece, the brilliant sequel to the Hourglass trilogy.

Myra-McEntire-Author-Photo2  <--- With any luck Fingers crossed I am meeting (or have already met) Myra at BEA while you are reading this!!! *SQUEE* Or I got trampled on my way (which is entirely possible at BEA) and I’m sobbing uncontrollably in a corner.

But you guys get to read a safe, trample free interview. Enjoy!

Karen: The world building for the Hourglass series is so intricate and complex, how do you keep track of all rules you've established while you're writing?
Myra: I have three notebooks, and I have to go back and keyword search a lot!

K: Read about The Science of the Hourglass here!

K: Timepiece is written from Kaleb's POV. I don't think I've heard even one complaint about that but were you nervous about how people would respond to the change in narrative at first?
M: I was SO nervous. I knew that Kaleb narrating next was definitely the best step for the story arc, and I also knew that a lot of people wanted more of him. I aim to please. ;) There's still quite a bit of Em and Michael.

K: Let's talk about Lily (Em's best friend) She has a much larger role in Timepiece. I LOVE her. Like really…..really love her. Was it fun to write her character? How would you describe Lily?
M: I so deeply wish I had a Lily in my life. She's very no nonsense, and practical, and single minded, but she's also empathetic. She's about her own business and the business of the people she loves. I loved writing her, and in this book the dialogue basically wrote itself. I just had to keep up.

K: I know you like to get to the kissing in your novels. Timepiece has the pages going up in flames it's so hot! How did you keep it YA? lol
M: Flames. No really. I set things on fire. (Fictionally.)

K: I follow (perhaps stalk) you on twitter. You are so supportive and fangirly about other authors/TV shows/movies/music. What are a few of your favorites? Have any of them inspired your writing?
M:
VAMPIRE DIARIES!
DOCTOR WHO!
BLACK KEYS!
BILLIE HOLIDAY!

And some people know the story of how Charlie Bewley walked into a dream and bossed his way into a story. That one was weird, but it has proven to be a good choice!

K: Describe Timepiece in 140 characters or less.
M: READ IT. Er......

Karen: Thanks Myra!! Here is my attempt at the 140 characters gush about Timepiece…

Guys!!! You must read this series!! It has time travel! It has swoony boys & smart girls that can not only hold their own but save the boy!

  3. Gyah, it's Myra! I love Myra!

Sometimes I wish I could be a Lily, but I'd settle for having a Lily as a BFF. I love that practicality!

Kaleb POV was a risk that paid off. My gosh, I was so ridiculously happy to get his POV. Can't wait for Infinity Glass!
