Hey, Emma Michaels here and Karen has been kind enough to let me borrow her blog to talk to you all for a few minutes about my journey as a blogger turned author. Blogging did influence my writing, but not because it helped me know exactly what to write, because it couldn’t - that came from the heart but because it was a driving force. I was able to read and share how novels had helped me, how they had changed my life and for the first time, I was able to see how it had changed the lives of others. I was able to hear back from people who had experiences similar to mine where reading had helped them during a hard part of their life or was something that was continuously helping them.
It drove me forward and made me want it even more. Which was what got me through the grueling process of querying agents. I will be honest with you, there are times where you wonder why you try so hard, where you think maybe you should stop after your 100th rejection (yes I got over 100 rejections from agents) but don’t let it stop you. I started querying directly to publishers and was thrilled with the responses. Suddenly everything was different, I wasn’t receiving standard rejection forms, I was being given options and I can tell you this: Hearing that “Yes” was worth having heard every single one of those “No’s”. I ended up choosing Bokheim Publishing because of the professionalism of their team, their willingness to work with me and because of the experience their team has and the potential Bokheim has to offer the publishing industry. They have been so amazing and I am so happy that I chose them. So here is the main thing I will tell you. Never give up.
If writing is a part of you and there are days that you just can’t help but start jotting down stories and suddenly those stories are novels. Just keep moving forward. I know online sources say to stop after 44 rejections but I know I didn’t and I don’t regret it. Now I have my debut novel coming out this August (Friday the 13th) and have found that together, all of us as an audience, as readers, as bloggers, together we can make it happen. I have the goal now of one day making it to the New York Times Best Sellers List and I honestly believe that one day it can happen if we all work together because together, we can do anything!
