My Monday Musings: July Wrap-Up & August Goals

July was a weird reading month. Apparently, I read 13 titles, but don’t remember reading most of them lol

Here’s the link to all the book from my July shelf on Goodreads

The (random) Breakdown:

Lazarus, Vol. 1& 2, Raven were Graphic Novels – that’s a fairly new format for me but I’m liking it.

Tyler Johnson Was Here, Riven, Fix Her up were on audio so I’m continuing to progress on that front and I believe that’s how I got the total read up so high for the month.

A Small Zombie problem was my only review book.

Death Prefers Blondes was the book I FINALLY finished!

Prince of Killers and Top Secret were both M/M romance.

Kill the Queen was high fantasy but read more like UF to me.

Library Love: All books, except Top Secret, Death Prefers Blondes (bought) and Hilariously Ever After (freebie) were from the library.

I want to join in the Library Love Challenge that I saw over at Feed Your Addiction because I think I’m killing it! and would love to see how much I’m saving by using my local library this year.

This is pretty new to me. I just got a card in FL last year but didn’t start using it until this year. I have read about 30 library books so far for this year!

* BTW - the challenge is hosted by Angel’s Guilty Pleasures and you can join here at any time)\

Favorite: Hard to say – I enjoyed Lazarus Vol. !, Raven, Tyler Johnson Was Here and Top Secret a lot

Least favorite: Prince of Killers. I almost DNF’d several times, it took me forever to read AND it had a cliffhanger. Not a huge fan of The Friend Zone either and Lazarus, vol. 2 dragged a bit.

I completed my 2019 Goodreads Reading Challenge!

Karen has completed her goal of reading 50 books in 2019!

I’ll be raising it to 100 and hopefully Kevin won't make me move cross county again and I can meet that goal. Ha!

August Goals:

Zip. Zilch. Nada.

I don’t have any review books and no plans so I will let the book winds take me wherever…

I’m currently reading Notes from a Young Black Chef, A Memoir by Kwame Onwuachi and while typing this, my audiobook hold for Like a Love Story by Abdi Nazemian came in!

***FLAIL***

And I wanted to share this picture! This is ALL the books on my TBR shelf. FORTY THREE books. That’s it. They all fit on this small cart. Not the room full of IKEA bookshelves I had to by to fit them all in the past.

When I first started to tackle the TBR (physical books only) I had 148 books so this is amazing!!! Since I won’t be attending any book conferences any time soon – it’s also sustainable.

How was your July reading month? What do you have planned for August? Is there a book I should be reading this month?

    1. Me too! I'm so shocked and happy that every book I need to read fits on there. It's easier to choose and actually makes me want to read.

  6. Doesn’t it feel nice to be so organized? I guess a move will do that for you. I really enjoyed Kill the Queen and Protect the Prince was just as good. I am not sure how many books I ended up reading in July, I know my numbers were way down early in the month, but I have been kicking butt the last two weeks.

    1. You really have to strip down to the essentials during that kind of move lol

I'm on hold for Protect the Prince.

I was the opposite - I read more in the beginning and then sputtered towards the finsih line.

  7. I hope you enjoy Like a Love Story. The uncle was such a star for me in that book. I was sort of surprised by one of the reveals at the end, but I did enjoy this ode to NY, the gay community during the AIDS crisis, and Madonna.

    1. YOU CAN'T THWART ME KEVIN

July felt like a complete blur to me. Honestly, the whole summer feels that way - but in a good way. I'm enjoying the outdoors more than reading. I can't even explain how beautiful the weather is in the summer here. It's like how winter is in FL I guess.

  10. I read your comment on Travis 😂 I actually loved him (mostly for his dirty mouth). And I'm so happy you enjoyed Top Secret so much!!!

    1. lol I do't like dirty talking heroes so that was strike one (but I can skim that) it was more how he treated the girl like a child. A little too alpha for my tastes.

Top Secret was pretty good! Had a lot of funny moments - which I love.

  12. I have one of those carts for my review books too; that's awesome all your physical review copies fit in yours!! I really want to read Raven, so I'm glad you liked that. Bummer you didn't really enjoy Prince of Killers - I do like that author. I need to read Top Secret; I've heard good things! Yay for a review-free month - I hope you read some awesome books.

    1. There were a lot of similarities in Rayne's PoK's to her other series. It's so weird but I don't even remember what I didn't like now lol Last month was a blur....

  13. You're doing pretty good. I've set a goal to read 100 books this yer and right now I'm at 72. So not too bad.

    1. My move put a series cramp in my reading life lol

I think I'm rebounding nicely though. I just upped it to 80. I was going to say 100 but then I know me...I'll panic and stop reading lol

  14. You didn't do bad reading wise at all and your TBR is pretty manageable really as long as you aren't adding to it, which is my weakness. I add to mine way more often than I should LOL!

  15. July was a great reading month for me. I've already planned out my next challenge-I have a list of 100 books and I want to see how many I can get through by the end of the year! I've also caught up with my Goodreads Challenge after lagging behind for months, so that is good!

    Well done to you!

  16. Doesn't sound like there were any real stand-out reads last month if you don't even remember them. LOL I definitely want to read Top Secret. I love me a Bowen/Kennedy collab. And I'm so curious about Kill the Queen.

  17. I have months like that! "I've read you but I don't remember anything about you." Sometimes it happens when I read too many books too close together without 'digestion' time in between.
I do want to read Kill The Queen!

  18. When you said apparently I read this much but I don't remember it it made me laugh so much :P I sometimes feel that way too by the end of the month!! I am so impressed with how much you managed to knock down your TBR. Really, so inspiring.
