Better Know A Blogger: Dawn - Read Love

The Ultimate Reviewer's Challenge is coming to a close. Get those last few reviews linked ! the challenge ends the 29th.

Today we have my last featured Better Know A Blogger. If you missed any of the featured bloggers or want to catch up on past Better Know A Blogger's, click here

Name: Dawn
Blog: Read Love
Blogging since: July 2, 2011

How did you choose the name for your blog? I wanted something easy to remember and easy to visually represent, as well as something that would represent me not only today but in the future. I tried to think of clever, catchy names, and the few potential creative options I stumbled on were already taken when I Googled them. So I decided to keep it simple. I love to read. Why not Read Love? I like that Read Love sounds imperative, like a commandment. What should we do? Read. And Love. The name ends up having a little extra meaning to me as a Christian.

How have your reading habits changed since you started blogging? Blogging doesn't change what I read when it comes to choices or preferences. If anything, it changes how much I read. My blog encourages me to read more often and more consistently. It also encourages me to take some time after reading a book to think about what I read, how well I enjoyed it, what I might have learned from it, etc.
One change in my reading has come with the discovery of NetGalley. Not only has NetGalley given me access to some books before publication, but it has helped me become more comfortable with reading books in digital format.
Blogging brought opportunities for me to write. Thanks to a group named Propeller, I had a chance to review some music CDs and host some giveaways. Reviewing those CDs and promoting the reviews on Twitter caught the attention of a website called NewReleaseTuesday.com which focuses on Christian music. The site's founder ended up inviting me to join their music review staff. I would never have sought these things out or had these kinds of chances without my blog. I am grateful for the experiences and the joy that I've received through them. But I still read and blog primarily for myself. I just want to have fun with reading (and sometimes music) and use my blog as a place to express myself and share my thoughts through writing.

What are the books you are most looking forward to reading in 2012? I don't plan too far ahead in my reading, but I have set up some books as must reads for the year, mainly as part of a goal to make progress through my bookshelves and make sure I am reading the books I've been buying.
I'm looking forward to what I call "meaty reads." Literature. The serious stuff. I can't wait to read another Steinbeck Novel. Last year I read East of Eden and adored it. I may have to revisit Of Mice and Men, which I read in high school but didn't appreciate. I'd like to read it again to find out if it was just too early in my life for me to value it or if my lack of enthusiasm was the product of my not being engaged by the teacher. I also want to read a Dickens novel, Little Dorrit.
In the YA world, I look forward to reading Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver as well as Veronica Roth's Insurgent.
The book I'm most looking forward to is one I hope will be finished and published this year, but as of right now, the author is still writing it: Bridge of Clay. The next Markus Zusak book. Markus has quickly become my favorite living author. I have enjoyed absolutely everything I've read of his. I've read them all, with the exception of I Am The Messenger. I'm holding that in reserve for a bit. But I'll probably read it this year. His writing is special and in a class all its own. He writes about regular people, but writes so well that the stories feel like more than fiction -- they feel alive and vibrant. His novels stir me to feel, they evoke strong emotional responses, both for their clarity in expressing humanity as well as their poetic, artistic beauty. Markus writes honestly and truthfully. And I can't wait for what's next. Its so exciting to have a living writer to follow, as most of my favorites (such as Hemingway, Faulkner, and Twain) are no longer living. Once I read what these favorite late authors have written, there will be no more. But Markus happens to be my contemporary. In fact, we are born in the same month and year. I look forward to growing old reading Markus' works as they come, knowing that when I finish the most recent work that another will follow.

How do you choose which book from the enormous TBR pile to read next? That largely depends on my mood. The hardest thing is deciding what to read after a 5-star, blow-your-mind kind of book. You feel like anything else is going to be a let down. And sometimes you are emotionally spent. So, at times, it's necessary to take a short break. To digest what you've read and think about it a little. For this reason, blogging can be very helpful. Taking the time to write a thoughtful review helps me to process what I've read, and I often have a better idea of what kind of story I want to read next.
Sometimes it's an easy decision. If I've just finished a Hemingway novel, for instance, I'm going to be totally emotionally drained and probably even a little depressed. I'll pick up something extremely light. Something fun. Funny. Happy. Kiddie lit. Something like Clementine or Sammy Keyes. If I've read a lot of fantasy, I'll probably pick a different genre. Luckily, my reading tastes are diverse.
Sometimes it's difficult to decide what I want to read next. I pick up a book, scan a paragraph or two, a page or two, and nothing grabs me. When this happens, I just keep pulling books from the shelf and reading the opening paragraphs until something feels right. Or I go to the store or the library and browse the shelves. If nothing feels right, I'll sleep on it and a day or so later I'll figure it out.

What has been the best thing about blogging and reviewing books? The reading experience, of course!

Better Know A Blogger: Kayla - Simply Kayla's Book Reviews

Introduce yourself! Hey my name is Kayla Graham from Simply Kayla’s Book Reviews Thanks Karen for having me today!

What is the name of your blog? (include blog link) How did you pick your blog’s name? The name of my blog is pretty simple, it’s Simply Kayla’s Book Reviews. When coming up with the name of my blog I just wanted something simple, self-explanatory, and straight to the point. Simply Kayla’s Book Reviews just popped into my head and I went with it lol.

How long have you been blogging? I have been blogging for 3 months

How do you measure blogging success? Is it strictly number of followers or something more? I honestly blog because I love to read books and share my opinions on them with other people who love reading as much as I do. If people follow me that’s great but, I don’t blog just to attain a lot of followers. I want to be able to share my love of books with people.

What genres/subgenres do you review, and what do you like best about those genres? I mainly review Romance and Young Adult books. I tend to lean more towards adult books though. I love any books with a Paranormal element in them. Paranormal Romance is my ultimate favorite genre.

What are you reading right now? Now I am reading Slave by Cheryl Brooks, she is such a great writer. After I read her book “Stud” I had to start at the beginning at the Cat Star Chronicles Series. I did an Interview with her on my blog on February 21st.

Do you use social media to promote your blog or discuss reading/blogging? Yes, I actually social network a lot… maybe too much. My twitter handle is @KaylaShantee; My Facebook name is Kayla Graham; My goodreads name is Simply Kayla

Where is your favorite place to read? My favorite place to read is at my Local Bookstore, or my Local Library.

What are your ideal reading conditions? I can read through basically anything, although I prefer it to be quiet I can block out everything around me if the books are good. Reading takes me to a whole other world which I love, it’s my escape from reality.

What are the top 5 books in your TBR (To Be read) pile? The top 5 books in my TBR Pile are Incorporeal by Julia Rachel Barrett (LOVE every one of her books!), Crave by Felicity Heaton (I loved her first book in this series which is Covet), Nothing Else Matters by Leslie Dubois, Arcadia Awakens by Kai Meyer, and Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood.

Obligatory controversial question: Love triangles! Love ‘em or hate ‘em, and why? I love “Love Triangles”, because of The Vampire Diaries. Damon and Stefan keep me on the edge of my seats because for one they’re both brothers in love with the same woman (Elena Gilbert), which is amazing! You never know what’s going to happen next, so you are left sitting there waiting to see what’s going to happen next. Very Addicting (The Vampire Diaries). Btw I love parenthesis, if you haven’t noticed.

What has been the best thing about blogging and reviewing books? The best part about blogging has been meeting other bloggers and chatting with new people about reading. I never knew that there were so many people who love to read, let alone love to blog about reading. I thought I was odd because I loved to read, and discovered that I’m not odd at all, just different. The blogging community is amazing! It’s like one big family and I love that. It’s great to have people who appreciate me talking about books, unlike my family and friends who hate it when I talk about books, and think I have a serious problem because I read and have tons of books haha.

Karen: Thank you so much for stopping by today. Go check out Kayla's beautiful blog! And look her kitty cat Arabelle looks just like my Figment (pic on the sidebar). Cutie is the b&w kitten. <3333

Better Know A Blogger: Krystal - Live to Read

Better Know A Blogger is a very popular feature during the month of The Ultimate Reviewer's Challenge. It's a great way to meet the blogger behind the blog!

Name: Krystal Larson
Blog: Live to Read
Blogging since:
April 2011

How did you choose the name for your blog? It was suggested to me by my mother...I *sometimes/mostly* take her advice =) It should be noted that Krystal is my blogging name though.

How have your reading habits changed since you started blogging? They really haven't. I still have a long commute that allows me to finish anywhere from 2-4 books per day. I rarely give up on a book and tend to go to the bitter end. I suppose now that I have a blog I am more aware of new authors and more readily order their books.

Karen: I thought I was a fast reader!! I can read 1-2 per day when I'm in the mood but FOUR??? I'm impressed.

What are the books you are most looking forward to reading in 2012? I am dying for Insurgent by Veronica Roth, Until I Die by Amy Plum, Thumped by Megan McCafferty, and Dreamless by Josephine Angelini. I adore those authors and love when the main character is a strong female rather than the "need-to-be-rescued" type.

How do you choose which book from the enormous TBR pile to read next? I just grab a few when I am walking out the door for school, completely random unless I know a review due date is coming up.

What has been the best thing about blogging and reviewing books?? Receiving advanced reader copies is always amazing and has had the positive effect of getting more than a few of my cousins and friends more involved in reading as well-after I finish an ARC I will sometimes pass it on close to the due date if the reader promises to give it a review on Amazon/Barnes and Noble. I've also noticed that I pay more attention to English Electives in school rather than strictly focusing on the math/science major I chose.

Find Krystal on Twitter | Facebook

Thanks for stopping by today Krystal. It was great to find out more about you and I've discovered yet another new blog!

Better Know A Blogger: Elena & Kendra - Novel Sounds

Better Know A Blogger is a very popular feature during the month of The Ultimate Reviewer's Challenge. It's a great way to meet the blogger behind the blog!

Name: Elena and Kendra
Blog: Novel Sounds
Blogging since: Dec 2011

How did you choose the name for your blog? We made a list of names with words involving lit and music and liked novelsounds the best! We also like the dual meanings of novel, how it means "different" in one context and novels as in you know, books!

How have your reading habits changed since you started blogging?
Kendra: I've gotten less start and stop with books. I try to finish them all the way even if they don't hold my interest right away.
Elena: Usually, when I read a book I didn't really think much about them after I read them. Before blogging, my reaction was typically "Oh, I liked it!" or "I didn't like it" and that's about it. Now, I try to think more critically and why or why not I enjoyed a book.

What are the books you are most looking forward to reading in 2012? Like everyone else, we're pretty excited for Insurgent by Veronica Roth and Spellbound by Rachel Hawkins! In non-sequels though, we think Pretty Crooked by Elisa Ludwig looks delightful and really fun.

How do you choose which book from the enormous TBR pile to read next? It really depends on what we're in the mood for! If a book comes with a great recommendation or interesting reviews, we're more likely to move that on the top of our TBR.

Elena: I have a lot of books, scattered everywhere (literally! in three houses) but here is a very small portion I have with me right now.
What has been the best thing about blogging and reviewing books?? Writing the reviews/picking songs to go along with the books has been a lot of fun and interacting with fellow bloggers! We love talking about YA books since we rarely get to do it with our own friends and adding our love for music on top of that has been really enjoyable.

Find Novel Sounds on: Twitter | Kendra's personal Twitter @sincethewreck where "I spit hot fire, and whine about my job"

Karen: Thank you Elena and Kendra for stopping by today. I discovered Novel Sounds after the girls contacted me for this feature. I adore this blog. It's so serene and visually pleasing. Another great thing is for each review they write they add a "sound" for the book. Very cool for a music lover like myself.
Go check them out!

Better Know A Blogger: Celine - Nyx Book Reviews

Better Know A Blogger is a very popular feature during the month of The Ultimate Reviewer's Challenge. It's a great way to meet the blogger behind the blog!
Name: Celine
Blog: Nyx Book Reviews
Blogging since: April 2010

How did you choose the name for your blog?
When I first started blogging, it was just another way to share the reviews I was writing on Goodreads. I called my blog Celine’s Random Updates. When I started to get more serious about blogging, I realized that it was kind of a horrible name for a book blog. There were already so many book blog names taken, that I powered up Wikipedia and started looking for a nice name in mythology. When I came across the goddess of the night, Nyx, I thought it fit perfectly. I mostly read paranormal books, featuring creatures of the night. Nyx Book Reviews was born.

Karen: That's a great "how I got my blog name" story!

How have your reading habits changed since you started blogging?
I read a lot more since I started blogging. I used to read about a book or two a month. After reading all the awesome other blogs out there I found out so many great books that I wanted to read that my actual reading speed picked up like crazy. I also got a Kindle, to make it easier to read books for review. Reading off a computer screen is not really comfortable.

What are the books you are most looking forward to reading in 2012?
One book I was really looking forward to was “For Darkness Shows the Stars” by Diana Peterfreund. Fortunately, I won a ARC from Diana’s blog *happy dance*. Another read I can’t wait to read is “Born Wicked” by Jessica Spotswood. I fell in love with the cover, and I read a few very good early reviews of it.

Karen: Lucky you for winning the ARC!

Look how neat those shelves are!!
How do you choose which book from the enormous TBR pile to read next?
Oh man, I just pick what I feel like at that moment. I’m notorious for reading multiple books at the same time, and there is no system in the madness that I call my TBR pile. I try to read the books for review as fast as possible, but other books on my TBR will sometimes feel very lonely for a year.

What has been the best thing about blogging and reviewing books?
The best thing is finding people from all over the world that love to talk books. In real life no one is as passionate about books as I am, and when I start talking about that awesome book I read they just kind of space out. I met some very cool people online. And it feels very good if your reviews are appreciated by other people.
Karen: It seems none of us have book loving friends in real life....how sad for us. At least we all found each other lol

Thank you for stopping my today Celine! Stop by and check out her awesome blog and honest, well written reviews.

Better Know A Blogger: Julianna - The Reviews News

Better Know A Blogger is a very popular feature during the month of The Ultimate Reviewer's Challenge. It's a great way to meet the blogger behind the blog!

Name: Julianna Helms
Blog: The Reviews News
Blogging since: July 13th, 2011

How did you choose the name for your blog? I’ve been wanting to start a book blog for a long time, and when I came across Fictitious Delicious’s blog, I thought, perfect, I should have a rhyming blog name! I went with the obvious one—reviews, and went on rhymezone.com to search for rhymes. I saw news, and then the two collided together and, boom, jackpot! I got The Reviews News. :)

How have your reading habits changed since you started blogging? I actually did a blog post on this for your awesome new meme, Book Blogger Confessions, Karen! But basically, I’m more selective in what I read now. My TBR pile is so large that if I read every book I wanted to read, I’ll probably have to reincarnate quite the number of lifetimes, and hopefully not take over someone else’s soul in the process (Incarnate, anyone? :) ) I suppose that I am more analytical while reading now, and my standards are definitely higher now that I know what I’m looking for, and I'm harder to impress.

Karen: There really isn't enough time to read all these books is there? And yet we buy more.....

What are the books you are most looking forward to reading in 2012? Are you serious? Too many! To name a few, Shine by Jeri Smith-Ready (Duh, #TeamKilt FTW!), Insurgent by Veronica Roth (another duh), and I’m so excited for quite the number of debuts this year! (for a full list of what books I’m most—keyword most—looking forward to, check out this Goodreads shelf.)

How do you choose which book from the enormous TBR pile to read next? Great question. It depends on my mood and what I’ve been reading lately. If I read piles of dark contemporary books at the same time, I’ll most likely not enjoy them as much as I would’ve at another given time. So I choose what I feel like reading, basically.

My TBR pile on Goodreads is here.

What has been the best thing about blogging and reviewing books?? Knowing that someone else besides my family have to deal with my endless ramblings, ha! (Seriously, I don’t know why anyone would even want to deal with me.) In all seriousness, though (not that I wasn’t serious before) (hmm, I just realized that I’m a very parentheses-type of person), I’m going to say the old and true cliché: meeting such wonderful new friends, including you, Karen! :) I’m so blessed and honored to be part of this wonderful community. Book Bloggers FTW!

Karen: My husband is pretty happy that I spend the majority of my time talking to other people about my books since I started blogging instead of him lol
And meeting other people has been the best part for me too.

You can find Julianna on Twitter as @JustJuliHelms & Facebook.

** Enter The Reviews News "The Epitome of Epicness Giveaway!" to celebrate her reaching over 100 followers! Ends 2/29

Karen: Thanks for stopping by today Julianna. I "know" you from all the Team Kilt festivities, Twitter and from your adorable blog but it was great to find out more about you.

Better Know A Blogger: Sarah - Smitten Over Books

Better Know A Blogger is a very popular feature during the month of The Ultimate Reviewer's Challenge. It's a great way to meet the blogger behind the blog!

Name: Sarah
Blog: Smitten over Books
Blogging since: November 2011

How did you choose the name for your blog?
Oh, I love this question! Having a blog was far from my mind. I was fairly happy to read, have a Goodreads account for an occasional review of some of the books I really liked and visit the blogs I love. But then out of the blue, the "smitten" word just jumped into my head. Then the rest is history. I've never made a better decision in my life, I think.

How have your reading habits changed since you started blogging?
My reading habits have changed a lot not only because of blogging but also because of college. I read lesser books now than before. We have a hectic schedule and the blogging stint was right on top of it. Not that I'm complaining, blogging changed everything for me as a reader and I'm happy to say it's for the better.

What are the books you are most looking forward to reading in 2012?
Every time I am asked this question I can't help but gush and squeal. I think 2012 is a really great year for books. I am most looking forward to Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore, Blackout by Mira Grant, Of Poseidon by Anna Banks among many others.

How do you choose which book from the enormous TBR pile to read next?
I am a mood reader so I picked the next book to read according to my preference of the moment. But I tend to shuffle the genres a bit so the comparison will somehow not be a problem when the reviewing time comes.

What has been the best thing about blogging and reviewing books?
Meeting fellow bookworms and discovering books I would never have known by myself! The blogging community was incredibly welcoming and supportive. I longed to be surrounded with people who'd understand my obsession with books so it's like a heavenly place for someone like me. I felt like I really belong here.

Thank you Karen, for this opportunity! Happy Reading everyone!

Better Know A Blogger

Better Know A Blogger is a very popular feature during the month of The Ultimate Reviewer's Challenge. It's a great way to meet the blogger behind the blog!

First up is Dreaming Dreams no mortal ever dared!

Name: Teri
Blog: Dreaming Dreams no mortal ever dared
Blogging since: May 2011

How did you choose the name for your blog?
My father use to read me the most bizarre bedtimes stories as I grew up. I got Macbeth, Remus and Romulus and alot of Edgar Allan Poe. I never lost my love for EAP. His tales of mystery is probably one of the first "adult" books I remember buying. So naturally when I went to name a book related blog I turned to him. I took the line from The Raven, which is one of my favorite poems by him. Not my favorite tho, that would be Anabelle Lee, but I couldn't come up with a good blog title from there..trust me I tried.

How have your reading habits changed since you started blogging?
I have always been a big reader, but I do find myself reading more since I started blogging. I follow some amazing blogs out there and they are always reviewing books that I think I must have, therefore I buy and have to read, plus since I review I want to make sure I have enough stuff to post on the blog . I also broke down and allowed my husband to buy me a Nook Tablet for Christmas, something I said I would never own ( I like the smell and feel of books) But I love it, and it makes it nice for him that I don't roam in the bed room late at night and turn on the light so I can read. Because I have no problems at all doing that..I need my reading time!

Karen: I never thought I would like e-readers either until my husband got me a kindle. I still prefer to hold a "real" book but what a space saver!

What are the books you are most looking forward to reading in 2012?
Oh there are so many, where do I start. I know of 4 books that I will have in hand the day they come out..City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clair..I'm a huge Jace fan. The finale of the Hush Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick , whatever Stephanie Perkins has in store for us later in the year and Shine, the last book about Logan and Zach from Jeri Smith Ready.

How do you choose which book from the enormous TBR pile to read next?I flounder..honestly..I don't know. its kinda of like eenny meeny miney mo ( is that how you would spell that?) I need to come up with a way to manage, but I haven't. I do however, list books that have to do with challenges I am attempting this year each month knowing I need to read those. After that..its all up in the air. A little view of two shelves of my TBR pile..its a five shelf bookcase.....its full....
What has been the best thing about blogging and reviewing books??
My readers! I have met so many fantastic bloggers it isn't even funny. They not only are friends, they teach me things, inspire me, and give me a heck of a TBR pile to work on. Reviewing books is hard for me tho, I never really know what to say. I post the Goodreads Summary on my reviews, so I try not to give another run down its usually my feelings on the book. Its a bit more personal for me.

Better Know A Blogger: Ann - Annabell's Book Nook

Today's featured Better Know A Blogger is Ann! Another new blog discovery for me.

Introduce yourself! Hello! I'm Ann. I'm 24 years old and live in Minnesota. The winters get too cold to do anything but read! Even though I hate the cold, I love all the time to read (and I actually am looking forward to winter because of that, but don't tell anyone else that!) I work at a school, and actually work specifically in a reading program, so my life is reading! I like many genres, but tend to read in the same genre for a while before moving onto another one.

What is the name of your blog? How did you pick your blog’s name? Annabell's Book Nook. It took me forever to come up with a blog name. When I first started all of this, I figured out all of the buttons and everything really easily, but picking a blog name was difficult! I knew it would be something I would be stuck with, so I made it simple.

Karen: Naming the blog seems to be the hardest part I think. Like you said, you're stuck with it once you pick.

How long have you been blogging? I have been blogging since January 2011. Actually, I think it was January 1st specifically. It had nothing to do with New Years or resolutions, it just had to do with me having Christmas Break off from work and wanting to try something new!

How do you measure blogging success? Is it strictly number of followers or something more? I measure my success by both the number of followers and the number of comments I receive. Certain posts (such as In My Mailbox), ALWAYS receive comments, whereas other posts do not receive any. I guess the comments would measure that specific blog post's success.

What genres/subgenres do you review, and what do you like best about those genres? I usually review YA, historical romance, and chick lit. I like YA because I can still pretend that I am 15 without a care in the world. :) I enjoy historical romance because I would love to live in those time periods when people behaved completely differently than they do now! I would very much enjoy a man behaving like a man in those days. And finally, chick lit I like because I can relate to some of it, but most if it is about somewhere I would like to be in my life.

What are you reading right now? I am rereading The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. I read all 4 books in high school and loved them, although I don't remember most of it. I found the whole set at a second hand store and had to buy them. It has been a year now that I have had them, and I finally have a reason to read them...I now have Sisterhood Everlasting and feel like I need to read the first 4 before I get into that one!

Do you use social media to promote your blog or discuss reading/blogging? (include links to Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, etc) I actually do not use social media at all to promote my blog. I do use goodreads and post reviews there as well, but I don't think I have ever even mentioned my blog on there. I don't promote my blog on facebook (and I don't have twitter) for a reason. I really enjoy keeping my blogging life separate from my real life. I don't know why, but I like coming to my blog and having a community that really enjoys reading as much as I do.

Where is your favorite place to read? My favorite place to read is Caribou Coffee! I love relaxing there, but I usually don't concentrate on my book. I am such a people watcher, so any time I hear that door ding, I am looking up to see who it is! I just have to remember to bring a sweatshirt or jacket, even in the summer, because it is always freezing in there after you sit for 15 minutes!

Karen: I can't read in public. I've tried reading on the plane or in a park but I get to distracted by the people around me. I'm a people watcher too.

What are your ideal reading conditions? I like it quiet when I am reading at my house, but when I am at a coffee shop, the noise doesn't bother me. I can zone into my book. The biggest thing for me is the temperature! I have to be warm. I love getting into a sweatshirt and comfy pants and just relaxing with a book!

What are the top 5 books in your TBR (To Be read) pile?
Never Have I Ever - Sara Shepard (just bought it tonight and will probably read the whole thing tomorrow after work)
Sisterhood Everlasting - Ann Brashares
Trial by Fire - Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Hereafter - Tara Hudson
Overbite - Meg Cabot

Obligatory controversial question: Love triangles! Love ‘em or hate ‘em, and why? In my life, I hate them! In a book, I love them! I love it when a book has me thinking about which person she (or he) should choose. I guess I think some books need them to keep them interesting enough. So really, I love a book that doesn't require a love triangle to keep the romance part interesting!

What has been the best thing about blogging and reviewing books? Meeting new people! I love talking with people who love reading and blogging. I can't talk books outside of the internet as much as I'd like to. I feel like on here, it feels like I am sitting with someone having a cup of coffee and just talking about books! Man I would love that!

Karen: Most of us don't have friends or family that understand our obsession so blogging is like having one big instant family to talk to. It is such a great and supportive community.

Thanks for stopping by Ann! Be sure to visit Anna's blog and check out her cover crazy post for Hunting Lila!

Better Know A Blogger: Jenna - coffee, books, and me

Today's featured Better Know A Blogger is Jenna!

Introduce yourself! My name is Jenna and I’m 20. I’m a recent graduate of BSN (BS in nursing), and I love love reading!

What is the name of your blog? How did you pick your blog’s name? It’s ‘coffee books and me’. Coffee is so addicting (but I’ve learned to control my cravings because it’s not good for my skin! haha), Books are part of me, that’s why I named my blog as it is. :)

How long have you been blogging? I just started blogging this April 2011. :)

How do you measure blogging success? Is it strictly number of followers or something more? For me it’s the interaction that matters. It makes me happy if many people comment on my posts, the many followers is just an addition and exceeds my happiness!

What genres/subgenres do you review, and what do you like best about those genres? I usually read YA books of the PNR genre and chick lits. I like how opposite those two are, so I alternate myself reading them. When I’m so hyped from reading PNRs, I switch to much lighter reads. Sometimes I read the occasional drama novels to release some tears from my system, haha.

Karen: That's how I like to read too. I always try to fit a contemporary or chick lit between my PNR and YA. Sometimes you just need a fun, non angsty read!

What are you reading right now? I’m currently reading “The Iron Knight” by Julie Kagawa. (which I’m really excited to finish!)

Karen: I've never read this series but I really want to try it ever since the YA Crush Tournament when there was so much Team Ash.

Do you use social media to promote your blog or discuss reading/blogging? Yes, I do. I have my goodreads account, and I joined two book bloggers group in FB too! It’s fun to interact with other readers and share what you feel about a book, as well as learn new books (and movies) from them.

Where is your favorite place to read? my room. (i know, i’m boring, lol)

What are your ideal reading conditions? nothing in particular, I guess...

What are the top 5 books in your TBR (To Be read) pile?
Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare (i’m so excited for December 6!)
Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick (the last one!having mixed emotions..)
Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer (i’m team Ren)
Bloodlines by Richelle Mead (Adrian adrian!)
Lost in Time by Melissa dela Cruz (i miss Jack..)

Karen: I see these choices are all boy-centric....lol

Obligatory controversial question: Love triangles! Love ‘em or hate ‘em, and why? I love them! My friend says I rant a lot about it but it’s weird that I still love them! I really hate it when the guy that the girl ends up in the end wasn’t whom I liked (I don’t know buy I usually love the “other guys” if you know what I mean :) )

Karen: Lucky you! I wish I loved them, it would make my reading life SO much easier.

What has been the best thing about blogging and reviewing books? The best thing about reviewing books is being able to express your opinion and feelings about the book. Talking about the characters like they’re real people and being immersed in the stories are the things that readers share most, at least that’s what I think :)

Better Know A Blogger: Jackie - My Ever Expanding Library

My featured Better Know A Blogger today is Jackie! We have quite a bit of fun on Twitter and with Klout :-) She also just celebrated her 2 year blogging anniversary!! Congratulations Jackie!!

Introduce yourself! Hi! I'm Jackie, a 41 year old, single mom. My day job is far from what I'd really like to be doing, so I'm happy to have my other job as my back up plan (for now): reading and reviewing. Hopefully, someday, my reading and my life plan will meld into something fantastic :)

What is the name of your blog? How did you pick your blog’s name? My blog is titled My Ever Expanding Library and I chose it because, well, my book collection just keeps growing!

How long have you been blogging? My 2nd anniversary of my book blog was this past August.

Karen: Woo-Hoo!

How do you measure blogging success? Is it strictly number of followers or something more? I think the easy answer to this one is numbers: followers, comments on posts, etc. But, for me, I feel more success in the fact that my reviews seem to grow more professional with each passing month. I enjoy seeing my own personal improvements immensely. The idea of "blogging" I think originated as a type of online journal, so when all the other numbers fail, it is that element that keeps me going.

Karen: I really love that answer. It's interesting how our blogs and reviews evolve over time.

What genres/subgenres do you review, and what do you like best about those genres? I pretty much read all genres. My frame of mind at any given time will guide what books I get into, though I will admit to maybe 50% being in the YA category. YA books tend to be lighter reads, so they make a nice change up from something dark or more intellectually challenging, like Jose Saramago, for instance. (Not to say that YA can't be complex, just maybe in varying degrees.)

What are you reading right now? Right now, I'm working my way through the Harry Dresden books by Jim Butcher (currently on Fool Moon) and The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa.

Do you use social media to promote your blog or discuss reading/blogging? I'm on Twitter, Facebook, Goodreads, Google +, LinkedIn, Tumblr.... I have to say Goodreads and Twitter are my best sources for conversation and info about books, from all of the social media formats out there.

Where is your favorite place to read? If I ever get the chance, I grab a blanket (on a nice sunny day) and head down to the lake. Otherwise, a nice comfy chair with a cup of tea close by.

What are your ideal reading conditions? I love lazy Sunday afternoons, when nothing else needs to be done, and all is quiet in the house. This rarely happens :-p

What are the top 5 books in your TBR (To Be read) pile? Hexed by Kevin Hearne, Nightshade and Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer, Circle of Fire by Michelle Zink, and Untold Story: A Novel by Monica Ali.

Obligatory controversial question: Love triangles! Love ‘em or hate ‘em, and why? Nooooo! No more love triangles! I think they have been overdone and are seriously predictable now.

What has been the best thing about blogging and reviewing books? The best part of this whole experience has been, for me personally, allowing myself to type out my thoughts. I've never been one to journal or expose opinions/ ideas in any kind of way. I think this is a big step in learning to become a writer. Whether I actually ever take things to that level is uncertain, but at least I've made attempts in the right direction.
Also, the people I have met, worldwide, is mind blowing. For the most part, everyone is incredibly gracious and helpful. I think it's just amazing how the book blogging community can make distances seem so insignificant!

Karen: I could not agree more! I just love the fact that I now have friends in the UK, South Africa, Greece.....It would have never happened without blogging and through sharing our love of books.

Thank you for taking the time to participate in Better Know a Blogger!

Better Know A Blogger: Bonnie - Hands and Home

I'm welcoming Bonnie for today's Better Know A Blogger feature. Be sure to check out her blog once your done reading to enter Bonnie's "Fantastic Followers Giveaway"! She has some great books up for grabs by Holly Black, Andrea Cremer and more....

Introduce yourself! Hi my name is Bonnie and I am the blogger behind Hands and Home! I spend my days with my 2 beautiful daughters and am an avid reader and novice quilter.

What is the name of your blog? How did you pick your blog’s name? Hands and Home started about 3 years ago as a place for me to share those things that I was most passionate about. At the time that was sewing, crafting, cooking, my family and the occasional "what are you reading" update. Hands and Home has since evolved and now that my girls have gotten a little older and I am actually able to find more time to read, has become a much more focused "book blog".

How long have you been blogging? I started blogging in 2008.

How do you measure blogging success? Is it strictly number of followers or something more? Sure it's great to see those followers numbers growing, but unless I am developing some realtionships with those bloggers it doesn't really mean much. I love engaging in discussions with readers - either through comments or email. I also love finding out what other bloggers are reading - so many of the books on my TBR list have come from the blogs that I read!

Karen: I agree! I have found so many amazing reads from fellow bloggers! They keep that pile growing with their recommendations!

What genres/subgenres do you review, and what do you like best about those genres? I review a pretty elcletic collection of fiction and occasionally non fiction. I love paranormal, YA, contemporary fiction and Christian fiction. I don't have one favourite genre, as long as it is a well written book with well developed characters I am happy. I read for the characters and I am always looking to be able to make some sort of an emotional connection with those characters.

Karen" I just found your blog through the challenge but I'm really enjoying the variety of books that you review.

What are you reading right now? Right now I am reading a bit of a crazy mix. I just finished Zombies Don't Cry by Rusty Fischer and just loved it. I'm also starting in on The Vampire's Warden and The Vampire's Curse by S.J. Wright, and will soon be reading The Sweetest Thing by Elizabeth Musser.

Do you use social media to promote your blog or discuss reading/blogging? I probably should but I don't really. Can you believe that I just don't get Twitter? I recently started a Facebook group (Hands and Home Blog) and am on GoodReads and Book Blogs but that is about it.

Karen" Gasp! you don't get Twitter?? I live for Twitter. I used to make fun of people who were on Twitter, now I'm a total addict. I'm sort of ashamed of how much I need Twitter. LOL

Where is your favorite place to read? Anywhere when I get the time! But if I had a choice I have an awesome wing chair in my bedroom that gets the perfect light for reading. Combine that with a cup of tea and great book and I am a happy girl!

What are your ideal reading conditions? QUIET! That's right no screaming children, no stopping every page to read a different Bernstein Bears story, and no getting up every 2 minutes to fetch a snack, juice or give a diaper change. Basically I don't get any real reading time unless my girls are asleep (but my girls are awesome so I really don't mind)!

What are the top 5 books in your TBR (To Be read) pile? Nightshade by Andrea Cremer, Spellbound by Cara Lynn Shultz, Forgotten by Cat Patrick, Bloodlines by Richelle Mead, Still Alice by Lisa Genova

Obligatory controversial question: Love triangles! Love ‘em or hate ‘em, and why? That depends, if it is well done and not overly predictable I am a fan.

What has been the best thing about blogging and reviewing books? Definitely the relationships I have made with other bloggers, authors and publishers. For me blogging about books is an extension of the passion that I have carried for books since I could read on my own (That first book was Donald's Day in the Kitchen... still have it and read it to my girls).

Thanks Bonnie! Now head on over to her blog and enter that BIG Fantastic Followers Giveaway! Four prize packs are up for grabs.

Better Know A Blogger: Kelsey - Kelsey's Book Corner

The Ultimate Reviewer's Challenge has ended but I still have a few more bloggers for you to meet. Today we have Kelsey, who just so happened to have won one of my prize packs from the challenge for her review of Tainted Blood. Congratulations!

Introduce yourself!
My name is Kelsey!

What is the name of your blog? How did you pick your blog’s name?
Kelsey’s Book Corner I picked the name because 1. I’m usually in some corner reading and 2. Ever since I transformed one of my back bedrooms into my “reading” room it has become my book corner..:D

How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging since July 2010

How do you measure blogging success? Is it strictly number of followers or something more? Personally I think blogging success is based on how I feel at the end of the day. Every time I get a comment on a review or meme, I smile. And yes, every time my follower number jumps up one I consider that a success.

What genres/subgenres do you review, and what do you like best about those genres? I try to do a variety but mainly stick to paranormal, horror, young adult and historical fiction. I have been introduced to dystopian, steampunk and urban fantasy since I started blogging.
What I like best about those genres is just the escaping from reality that I get from reading them (and the hot male hero isn’t so bad either..:D)

What are you reading right now? Right now I am reading A Long, Long Sleep by Anna Sheehan, Fallen by Lauren Kate and Tainted Blood by Mary Ann Mitchell

Do you use social media to promote your blog or discuss reading/blogging?
Facebook
Twitter
Goodreads
LibraryThing
LinkedIn

Where is your favorite place to read?
In bed or out on my screened in porch.

Karen: That looks like the perfect place to read Kelsey!

What are your ideal reading conditions?
Cool and quiet with a light blanket on my lap. Usually like to have a cup of coffee or tea.

What are the top 5 books in your TBR (To Be read) pile?
The Vampire’s Curse by S.J. Wright
The Evil Inside by Heather Graham
Damned by Nancy Holder and Debbie Viguie
Lord of the Vampires by Gena Showalter
Beyond the Grave by Mara Purnhagen

Karen: This is just one of Kelsey's bookshelves. Blogger is preventing me from including all the pictures but let's just say she has a LOT of books!

Obligatory controversial question: Love triangles! Love ‘em or hate ‘em, and why?
If the love triangle is really well written I love them, but sometimes it does get old..you have the bad boy and the good boy…I like when an author throws a twist into them to make them unique.

What has been the best thing about blogging and reviewing books? The best thing so far about blogging and reviewing has been the other bloggers, authors and publishers that I have conversed with. Everyone is really supportive and helpful. I love this community!

Thank you for stopping by Kelsey!!

Better Know A Blogger: Brooke - Brooke Reports

I met Brooke during the Shift blog tour I hosted for Jeri Smith-Ready back in May. She sent me a link to her blog, I went to investigate - fell in love with Brooke and her reviews and tweeted the heck out it.
Um.....one problem......Her blog had not gone live yet. She didn't want anyone to know about it, she was still testing the waters and just wanted my opinion.
Oh man did I feel like poop on the bottom of someone's shoe. I begged for forgiveness.
Luckily Brooke did not end up hating me and even ended up thanking me for pushing her out into the wonderful world of blogging.
She had absolutely nothing to worry about! Her blog is fantastic!
Once you're done reading this interview head on over to check out Brooke Reports. And not just the reviews....nooooo - read everything. The "About Me", her "Review Poilcy", the "Contact Page".
If you don't fall in love with this girl you have a cold, dead heart. Just sayin.
She reminds me of what blogging is all about - FUN & sharing our love of books!

Here's Brooke!

Introduce yourself! Helllllloooo! I’m Brooke and I’m a reading addict. Wait….this… isn’t book buyers anonymous!? :P
What is the name of your blog? How did you pick your blog’s name? Brooke Reports! And picking the name for my blog was a process! At first I wanted it to be called “Dysfunctional Diaries” but that just didn’t feel right. So then I thought, “What about something extremely cute? How bout Frizzy Freckles!?” <-- that was a little too cute. Finally I settled on “The Giddy Whisk!” I told my best friend and she said, “Aw! That’s adorable, it’s going to be a cooking blog!?” Crap. In fact it was NOT going to be a cooking blog….so she suggested “Brooke Reports” and the rest is history!!

Karen: I love you Brooke - but - "The Giddy Whisk"?? What does that have to do with books? LOL

How long have you been blogging? I’ve been blogging since April, so only about 5 months! (and it’s been the best 5 months of my life! No joke!)

How do you measure blogging success? Is it strictly number of followers or something more? Hmm, good question! I think at the end of the day, the number of followers you have is just that, a number. If your blog can make me smile, laugh and shake my head in agreement, in my opinion, it’s a success!

What genres/subgenres do you review, and what do you like best about those genres? Young Adult is the only genre for me! EEEEEP! I love it some much! It’s angsty and fun and cool and hilarious and sad and emotional and romantical and shmexy and relatable. For me it’s an absolute escape, there’s so much imagery and unquieness packed into each and every YA book that I don’t think I could ever get sick of it! Plussss, there’s usually a cute boy, and that’s always a plus! :)

Karen: I must in some way convince you to read WIcked Game by Jeri Smith-Ready even though it's Adult. What can I do to get you to read this book???

What are you reading right now? I’m actually kinda in a slump right now! I’ve started like 4 books but can’t really get into them. I blame the awesomeness that was Shattered Souls by Mary Lindsey! (I finished it like a week ago and am still swooning over it!)

Do you use social media to promote your blog or discuss reading/blogging?
TWITTER!! AAAAH! Twitter is my life! I can hardly remember my life without it! Oh jeez, I would miss so many amazing things if it weren’t for my unhealthy obsession with twitter! I’m thinking of making some T-shirts that say, “Crazy Good Shit, Goes Down on the Twit!” <-- lemme know if you’re interested in getting one! :P
I stalk Goodreads frequently as well!

Where is your favorite place to read? In a big cushy pile of pillows! Or outside on my front porch!

What are your ideal reading conditions? Bright and quiet!

What are the top 5 books in your TBR (To Be read) pile?
Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
A Need So Beautiful by Suzanne Young
Sweetly by Jackson Pearce
Dark Parties by Sara Grant

Obligatory controversial question: Love triangles! Love ‘em or hate ‘em, and why? Oh SNAP! I have a love/hate relationship with the triangle! I love ‘em when my team wins, and I hate ‘em when my team loses. But if they’re done just right… they can add such angst and tension to the story and I like when that happens!

What has been the best thing about blogging and reviewing books? Meeting my soul mate Karen! Haha! Besides that, the best thing is being able to fan-girl about books I love with other people who feel the same way! Everyone has been so welcoming (especially my pimp, Karen!) and nice and FUNNY! People in the blogosphere are funny! And so far, it’s just been a really awesome experience!

Karen: Good answer -lol

Thanks for stopping by Brooke! A picture for you.... (we kind of have a kitten picture thing going on - don't ask)

Better Know A Blogger: Hannah - Once Upon a Time

Hannah is here today to answer a few questions as part of the Better Know A Blogger feature. I really loved her answers so without further ado.....meet Hannah:

Introduce yourself! Hey! I'm Hannah, I like blogging, and I have a book buying addiction. Aside from reading, I'm a bit of a gamer. I love fantasy MMOs and trying out different RPGs. I primarily play World of Warcraft but I do try other things, Guild Wars at the moment. I also love Merlin, Doctor Who, True Blood, and House, though I don't watch a lot of tv, there are a few shows I like to keep up with. And I love Chinese food, that might be my other addiction!

What is the name of your blog? How did you pick your blog’s name? My blog is called Once Upon A Time though it hasn't always had this name, in fact, that is a very very recent change. Originally it was called The Rant Page, as it used to be a personal blog, but as I'd basically made the switch to book blogging without really realising it, I decided it was time for a change. I wanted something unique that fit my reading preferences that suited a book blog, and Once Upon A Time was what I came up with because I like fantasy and fairy tales and magic.

How long have you been blogging? That's a difficult question! I started blogging with livejournal as a teen. I did some angsty posts, moved over to Wordpress and did the same, realised that people I knew actually read it, got creeped out, and stopped. Then 2 years ago I picked up blogging about World of Warcraft, and I loved the community. When I stopped doing that I picked up my personal blog, publicised it a little, and started posting my book reviews and In My Mailbox posts and such and that slowly became a book blog. So I've been book blogging since Decemberish.

Karen: LOL - it's always a little weird when friends and family read you blog - especially if it involves ranting.

How do you measure blogging success? Is it strictly number of followers or something more? No, I don't think you can accurately measure blogging success in page views and followers. To an extent, sure, but I've known fantastic bloggers who only have 50 followers and 15 page views a day, and I've known some awful bloggers with 3000 followers. The amount of followers is down to how much time you put into your networking, in my honest opinion. Success, on the other hand, can be measured by quality. If you post good, helpful reviews, maybe one or two memes that you enjoy but don't overdo it, and manage to also keep your blog tidy, i.e. not something in adds and flashy widgets that slow down loading time (that's a big pet peeve of mine, it crashes my browser a lot), whilst also posting unique content and communicating with your loyal followers and having fun, then you are successful. The goal of blogging is to enjoy yourself.

Karen: Well said!!

What genres/subgenres do you review, and what do you like best about those genres? Fantasy and all of its' subgenres, and historical fiction, though I will try other things. I like to be able to escape when I pick up a book, and the easiest way to escape from the world is to venture into a time or place completely different from your own. It's also why I like urban fantasy, though it takes place in the modern day, there is magic and otherworldly creatures exist alongside us. I also read contemporary fiction and I couldn't tell you what I like about that particular genre because very often it explores the horrid things about society, but quite a few contemporary novels are very gripping. And sometimes chick lit.
I primarily read adult fiction. I see the appeal of young adult fiction and from time to time I like a nice simple read myself, but I also find a lot of it very samey and I struggle to find young adult books that don't include a teeny romance, because I don't really enjoy those at all.

What are you reading right now? Right now I'm reading The End of Mr Y by Scarlett Thomas, which is an adult novel I picked up in the charity shop I volunteer in. The cover is bright and funky, and the page edges are black, which I love, so honestly, I picked it up for 25p because I adored the cover. But, it's an interesting first-person, present-tense novel about a woman who is studying a Victorian Scientist called Lumas and she comes across a very, very rare book called The End of Mr Y in a second hand bookshop after a building in her university collapses and she has to walk home. The book is supposed to be cursed and she starts reading it. I love her writing style and I can't wait to see where it goes. Apparently it involves time travel and it will be my first time travel novel!

Do you use social media to promote your blog or discuss reading/blogging? Yup. I've been using twitter for the past couple of years. I started out just to see what the heck it was because nobody really managed to describe it properly for me and I got hooked. I've fairly recently made a second account for my book blogging things, so I have 2 accounts.
You can find my book bloggy account here
And my other account is here
When I was regularly doing my gaming blog, we pretty much used rss feeds and readers. I've noticed that a lot of people in book blogging like different ways to follow a blog so I've picked up Google Friend Connect even though I use Wordpress, and Facebook, and Networked Blogs, email subscription, and of course my posts auto-tweet as well.
I have a Facebook page and I'm also on the Book Blogs Ning site which I've really enjoyed poking around on, actually. I only signed up to see what it was all about but it's pretty active and everybody seems very friendly and helpful. My profile for that is here

Where is your favorite place to read? Anywhere quiet and comfy. If I can, I like to read curled up on the sofa but my dad hogs the living room, so I only get to go in there when he's out, which isn't often, so you can usually find me reading on the bed propped up by pillows.

What are your ideal reading conditions? Quiet and comfy. I have concentration issues and my dad doesn't understand the meaning of the word quiet and we live next door to a couple of screamy spoilt brats, so needless to say I have to arrange my reading time around everybody else at the moment, but as long as I have some quiet, and comfort because leg cramps suck, I'm happy.

What are the top 5 books in your TBR (To Be read) pile? I have a few books incoming at the moment but I won't mention those incase they don't arrive, though if you check my Goodreads profile they'll be pretty high up on my to read list there. I plan to start reading for my upcoming 'Discovering Steampunk' feature very soonish, so most of these are for that.

The Time Machine by H.G. Wells – not quite steampunk but supposedly influenced the genre a lot so I'm starting with this one.

Boneshaker by Cherie Priest – a steampunk novel that I recently bought for myself that I keep hearing about and it sounds fantastic.

The Jane Austen Handbook – I received this one for review from Quirk when they sent me Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and I plan to read and review it when I can because it looks like a fun and interesting read.

The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters by G.W. Dahlquist – another for the steampunk feature, this one is supposed to be pretty dark and I'm very intrigued, it also has a purdy cover.

Matched by Ally Condie – the first RAK I received so I'd like to read it soon. I'm not entirely in a young adult mood at the moment having read a fair few recently but nevertheless, I'll be reading this one when the romantic hate in me dies down a bit.

Karen: Quite the eclectic mix! My husband really enjoyed Boneshaker. I have Matched but I'm holding off for the same reasons as you :-) Although I hear it's very good.

Obligatory controversial question: Love triangles! Love ‘em or hate ‘em, and why? Hate hate hate hate. I find all of the romance in young adult novels so annoying because you just can't escape it! If I want to read something romantic I'll pick up a chick lit or something of the sort, I like my vampires mysterious and dark, and my werewolves rugged and nasty, and I like my books without these silly love triangles because come on, I need some variety in my reading and it's just impossible to find these days! I'll be really enjoying a novel and oh, there, love at first sight yet again. It really bugs me.. and then you throw in another guy to fight over the girl and she very rarely picks the guy who's right for her. I've had quite enough romance of any kind for a little while. Show me some young adult fiction aimed towards boys, please.

Karen: I'm with you there although I don't mind romance in my YA. I just find it hasn't been very original of late.

What has been the best thing about blogging and reviewing books? This is the part where I say, “free stuff” right? No, of course not really. I've honest to god met some really awesome people through book blogging. Perhaps not met in the flesh but exchanged emails with, chatted to on twitter, and everybody who has commented on my blog whether we've chatted or not are included. They've all made me feel very welcome and it's fantastic. I wish I'd started book blogging and networking a lot sooner.

Thanks so much for stopping by Hannah! I've been a follower of your blog for awhile now.
